I body surfed the wedge from 1968 to 73. No surfers as short boards were in their infancy and Boggie was not yet invented but there were a few kneeboarders. We called the huge shore break just north of the main break BRUTAL! Back then there were telephone poles with wires atop going along the length of the jetty and on big days in Aug. and Sept. I remember being on the waves peak looking over and being above the wire. I'm an old man now but cherish those memories. Randy, if you're out there I miss you brother, we had a good time!
As an old guy, I always look for bodysurfers in these videos, but after seeing what the boogie boarders are doing, I can understand everyone going to foam boards. one thing about bodysurfing, you don't get a lot of air time after the drop.
Yes! Brutals. They call the perfect little wave to the north “brutals”, now. By 10 am it’s such a perfect little wave (not wedge). Hard boards don’t belong here. We’ve said it and seen it all along. Christian Fletcher has a hilarious video of him killing a wave then being arrested.
You guys are the best surf videos, like one of the other guys said no bs,just raw surf as it happens,And big ups to all of you for always picking up trash.
Ah yes, the highly competitive, cutthroat world of Wedge Cinematography is totally dominated by Beef's TV. Hands down, no doubt, 100% Barreliciousness!
After 50 years growing up in HB and surfing everything from the Ranch to Tijuana sloughs it sure would be nice to see Newport Point once in a while. Just watching Cylinders going off takes me back to a time when Viper fins were the way to go. Thanks from Oregon for the awesome videos - keep up the great work and RC Surfer vids too.
The way the whole spot looks, like the setup with the inlet and the two jetties and the way the wave breaks (looks like in slightly deeper water but pretty close to the shore like it’s a spot that’s good at high tide on a bigger swell. Idk I’ve never been there) reminds me so much of Jenk’s in Pt Pleasant NJ when there’s a swell
Love the content! The uhhh… 🎶🎵 Alien tractor-beams cow🎵🎶 music? You’ve had it since the beginning… was it made on an old Windows 98 compatible computer? Hilarious sound (song?)🤷♂️‼️
Thank you for your enlightening perspective on water sports! After watching your impressive video and some deep soul-searching, I’ve come to accept that surfing isn’t in my future. I’ll stick to admiring athletes from the shore. Thanks for sharing and for ensuring my couch remains my favorite wave!
Epic shots! Love that you got in the water. I bought a water housing and stuck my mirrorless camera in there only to realize that it's a lot of work to move around out there when you don't have a big buoyant surfboard and you're a big, fat, old walrusy guy like me.
Can somebody explain what it's like when one of these giants waves crashes on top of you. Seems like there is a really bad wipeout on every single wave. Are people being taken to the hospital on a daily basis at the wedge?
It's not as bad as it looks, unless you are pile-driven into the sand; I dislocated a collarbone there when I was slammed on my head and shoulder into the bottom. Or the wave lands on your back while you are on your board; I damaged my pec muscles and sternum there when I made the mistake of not ditching my bodyboard and allowed a giant wave to sandwich me. The wave pushing down against the board floating up made for a lifelong injury. Both hurt now, thirty years later. Staying in the barrel is the safest. It may look violent, but the wave actually just collapses on itself and one usually just pops right back up. That said, I nearly drowned there when I was 18 (before my injuries) because I was caught outside and hammered by endless waves, barely able to surface and take a breath before another wave was upon me. It was only because I had enough sense to push off the bottom (when I could finally touch) that I was able to push my way towards the shore and didn't drown. There were no lifeguards out that day. The Wedge is usually fairly shallow, so the biggest danger really is hitting the bottom, especially further north/west in Cylinders, which is even shallower. It's not for beginners. People die there almost every year, although oftentimes it is someone who ignores warnings and gets swept off the jetty. There have been some people paralyzed. I think serious injuries and fatalities are rare for those who are experienced there.
Hi raw beefs, I have discovered a novelty mini barrel that I think you'll like 👍 It's around the places you've filmed before If you're interested, I can shoot you an email with the details 🤙
@@AcL-DevelsTango I think it is! People who like to keep secrets about our public beaches, and the ocean for all, or people who like to play stupid "locals only" games are truly rotten human beings. I say keep it friendly and be loving and caring to all, and share without greed.
@boblatkey7160 bro, you're right, and I'm not for all of this localism stuff. It's not about the spot. It's about the conditions. Here's the spot 33.088716,-117.311093 For the best shot at the stupidity mesmerizing but small barrels, it's gotta be a huge swell (the bigger the better) it's gotta be a low tide that's coming up if that makes sense. Best at dead wind, obviously. Is there anything I missed out on?
Surfed here back in the 80's. Not a particularly friendly bunch of locals. Couple of nazis in the lineup. Fun wave though, you show it at it's best. Thanks.
Nicely done with the water angles, but where were Craig and Tanner? I've come to expect some proper bodyboarding launches in my BeefsTV wedge clips. Also: Aaron you tried, and your efforts were appreciated... but you just can't match the commentary skills of the OG.
Lil BEEFS Tartare for breaky! Tasty! What bozo is bringing ginger beer bottles to da beach?!? Still lotta clowns need educating on not leaving their opala on the grounds! Mahalos for Malama tha Aina Chris! 🙌🏼
Best surf channel, straight action no bs and raw beeeefs
Good when they're not doing helicopter 360s on softboards at Lowers.

Me too - in the early 60's to 1970. It was bone crunching but fun.

That looks very dangerous at the start because of shore break 🤓
Kneeboarders: old school.

More launches than any Apollo Missions in 1 day
Haha
@4:26 A proper wave party
I know we all like to be cool and undercall wave size especially on a wedge, but that thumbnail is a legit 40-50' peak 🤙
I sure bet it feels like 50’, but that waves probably around 25-30 depending on the height of that dude riding it
