Am I the only person to notice that the clip about Terry not having "touched a drop yet" was number nine in the list?
For those not in the know, Wogan's advice to Graham Norton when he took over the commentary was not to drink anything until at least song number nine. So Norton now makes a point of asking viewers to "raise a glass to Sir Terry" just before song number nine begins.
My favorite is:
"29 years since The Netherlands have won this contest... Make that 30!" 😂
Kennet classic!
The irony now
Make that 43
Haha!
Haha 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Love terry wogan legend takes me back to the times when me and my mum watched it together laughing like crazy together watching Eurovision song contest
I miss Terry doing Eurovision commentary...he knew it was entertaining rubbish and never pretended it wasn't. His wit was tremendous.
You (and the UK in general) may think that it's entertaining rubbish but quite a few countries take it very seriously and aim to submit their best act. I'm not denying that there haven't been terrible entries throughout the years but there's no need to mock the entire competition.
It is hiš Witt , that stands out. You dont need to take everthing so serioussss ❤️🌹🙏🤗👍🦵💪💘🕺💃👯👯🕺🎀💃💋👯💘💖💓
@@sararistictodorovic2100 It's the worst kind of music. It's absolutely shit.
@@racelox but that’s why it’s good
He was a LEGEND. Graham Norton is very funny though btw.
I recall another comment either during or at the end of Las Ketchup in 2006 where he said "Well, Spain have just given up".. Cracked me up.
Thought they would continue the clip up to that point. So, so true. Remember it well.
It was a catchy song though! I still remember it years later which can't be said for 95% of the songs.
Terry had some shots to fire. And he didn’t miss 😂 RIP Terry Wogan
Exactly 🙏🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹
"Are you related to the Director-General at Swedish Television?"
In my opinion Sir Terry Wogan was Eurovision. You are still truely missed Sir Terry especially on your BBC Radio 20 breakfast show. Bless you Sir Terry.
i miss Terry so much
Terry completely encapsulated the British viewpoint of the contest. It’s not to be taken seriously and just a bit of fun. Other countries that take it far too seriously never really understood Terry’s humour and they can never really understand how the British see Eurovision either.
Completely agree. I'd rather live here in a country that doesn't take it too seriously and be entertained by how bizarre it all is than take it so seriously that I can't laugh at it at all.
Graham Norton ALWAYS says he does his best to constantly channel Sir Terry when commentating.
Well both Irish so sharp wit & comedic genius comes naturally
Not even close
I'm Danish and the comment about Natasja and Søren is so right on hahah
The first Danish person who I've seen not to be offended by these remarks... 😂
@@JeSuisReneSeriously?? Omg Danish people need to get some humour Jesus Christ
@@aleksanderpagels288 I mean, the BBC had to offer an official apology after ESC 2001 as the Danes took personal offence to his comments.
@@JeSuisRene Yes Yes yes I know this and it's so hilarious lol
Its boring watching now without Sir Terry and his wonderful commentary
Mine is from 2004 the female host sings a line from Johnny Logan’s What’s another year before he announced the Irish results for that year & she says she needs Terry Wogan to revive her and he says “Get your hands off me I’m a married man” that for me was just brilliant
Meltem Cumbul, I think you mean
@@arthurjohnson9982 thats the one
Terry Wogan it is the FIRST TIME I ever hear for HIM ... Thank YOU ALL Thank YOU 🤗🥳 😍😘🥰😍😍🥰🕺💃👼💃♥️🌹🌹
I have not watched eurovision since he died what a a legend.
RIP - lovely man 💗
Terry Wogan Eurovision LEGEND!!!!!
To be fair, any remark about the danish hosts deserve a spot in the top 10!
The best commentator ever!! Miss him so much each year may....
My all time favourite comment came in 1996 when the Norwegian interval act began with an old lady perched on top of a snow capped mountain singing a Norwegian folk song which comprised of the lyrics "Diddly Dee oh Deo" (or something similar) and Terry pipes in "This'll win"😂
The most wonderful voice and humour in the world ever, loved this man always reminded me of my uncle frank, Irish humour cannot be beat love you terry and uncle frank rip
Never was Eurovision more captivating than to hear the dulcet tones, wit and humour of the Irish legend Sir Terry Wogan. Yes the acts were good, but Terry was just outstanding.
Wogan made Eurovision watchable.
Terry was a legend
I miss Terry
chileepengwin we miss him too!
So do l, very hard to replace
WE CAME SECOND!!!!! 🇬🇧 2022
We came 1st, 1997
God bless you Mr Wogan....
The best for last: The Little Mermaid and Dr. Death! This Pair Will Kill You! ...however we must remember that he also announced that that year's contest is sent from, as he said, wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen. Presented by DR, Danmarks Radio, Radiotelevision-Denmark =)
The only way to watch Eurovision was to turn the TV down and put the radio on. Terry was viscous. It was hillarious
Viscous? Not sure about that. Vicious? Possibly.
You had to liquefy him first silly.
Legends like him make me proud to be Irish :)
Euro- -Towelie and so you should be! 🇮🇪
See how he's got the British flag in the thumbnail? He's a Loyalist. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Born Irish died British. He became British when finding out about the impending Knighthood.
@flip inheck Thanks for this & I understand the confusion. As an Irish citizen he was awarded a KBE & then took British Nationality so he could aggrandise himself to Sir Terry & Lady Wogan.
@flip inheck Not so. Bob Geldof-Irish & Casper Weinberger-US were awarded KBEs as they were not British.
You missed the best part of the Sanomi commentary when he said afterwards "the very essence of the Euro" 😂
Miss you, Terry!
Hilarious :D
I loved him so much!!! r.i.p. Terry Wogan.
I miss Wogan. Eurovision is a comedy show in the UK and it needs more comical commentary again.
He emphasized perfectly the political nature and cringyness of it all.
I think Graham Norton's commentary is very funny but I always remember he's walking in Terry's footsteps with his humour.
Love this Eurovision is the year of hair :-) Miss him big time
Macedonia 2000:
Right before the song: "The Spice Girls have a lot to answer for!"
Right after the song: "Wow, they copied the Spice Girls even down to the lack of talent!" 😁😄😂😂
I loved Terry best Irish man going love from Ireland
After seeing this Video, I wish I could have seen most ESC with Terry instead talking around it
unmatched
Legend!
Legend
Oh I miss Terry.
You missed his comments during Spain 1990's mishap
difcymru there were many many more we missed, however these were 10 of our faves 😊
Long live terry wogan
How come you don't have included his "He is outrageous" during the unforgettable dialogue between Sakis Rouvas and Paul van de Leeuw in 2006??
Graham Norton would never talk over the beginning of a song
😂This is Sir Terry Wogan at his best
terry Wogan was so funny how he coped with the show sonetimes weird acts 🤣
There are 3 languages in Belgium
U would LOVE ❤️🌹❤️🌹 HIM RIP🙏🙏🙏🤗🤗
Wogan had this show sussed lmao and he always give his thoughts hahaha rip legend
God, I miss the 90s.
2004 sound like the phineas and ferb songs
Me, from The Netherlands, seeing number 4: Sorry, I didn't quite hear you correctly, could you please repeat that? 😏😎
(This comment is a bit late tho, like 2 years I know BUT-)
I miss his voice doing eurovision.
Brill Tell! RIP
I think you forgot the 70s and 80s
I miss his dry humour and his attitude of ' shit this isnt it? Im goujt ro pack it in next hear no idea why i bother'
"The four horsemen of the apocalypse" didn't make it in. Shame.
The piemans role model
4:25 That aged well.
so looks like TW recycled some of his jokes. His last 'Little Mermaid & Dr Death' is reminiscent of 2001's 'Dr Death and the Toothfairy'. Also on Denmark's presenters....
I use to watch it just for him, can't stand the contest itself.....
As soon as Terry Wogan died, the UK started to do better at ESC. I guess he made people dislike the UK as he was always very disrespectful towards others.
This is pretty much the opposite, since he died we have done worse!
It's called humour, if you let some into your life you might enjoy it a little more.
No7 there social distancing
el tel the master i can't watch since he left
3:13 Why on earth is Carrickfergus on Eurovision?
The host nation (in this case Ireland) always produce a series of "travelogue" inserts to fill in gaps where some broadcasters add their own idents or continuity segments.
flip inheck Ireland, especially in 1994 and 1995, liked to have a few shots of Northern Ireland. As did the UK in 1998.
@@gwishart That's not the point. The point is that Carrickfergus is in Northern Ireland not Ireland.
@flip inheck Well one could take that as a good thing because people view the two countries as the same (which really they are) and thus we have a United British Isles again but on the other hand, you have the likes of the Republicans who'd view that as good because they want a United Ireland. Nevertheless, they are two separate states for the time being and people should start recognising that because they are being either ignorant or stupid or both if they do not.
@flip inheck I just think that devolution has severely impacted the economy as a whole. We're the poorest nation of the UK. I agree that if NI was in a unified Ireland, it would spell disaster both economically and politically because Unionists will be in protest. Ireland has pretty much only survived once it joined the EU. Now there seems to be a growing 'Irexit' campaign which will leave them in a limbo. I'd like to welcome them back into the UK if they did leave the EU. Try and redeem ourselves a bit perhaps. Although with the state the UK is in at the moment, it may not be economically viable. Plus there's always the danger of the IRA getting 'a bit' upset.
Who were the 17 ejits who gave this the thumbs down?
Even though I find most of these rather unfunny and think he sounds like an absolute mong when he makes fun of the way people look or talk, I admire the guy for mocking this horrible event. Eurovision is taken way too seriously by television people, sometimes politicians. It deserves the ridicule.
For Australians it's all about the drinking games, and culturally misappropriating stereotypes, for fancy dress, in the name of being a mascot for one's country of choice, at Eurovision parties.
lol look in the mirror
He was a sarcastic jerk, rude and disrespectful!
@Fussbudget the Ninth it's the festival to unite the Europe through song and fun, and ok it shouldn't be taken seriously 'cause it's not the Opera or Theater and very often is far away from Art...but speaking when the performance already started is very rude and disrespectful
Its called humour. Which is a very scarce commodity in the EU. As your comments clearly show.
The BBC has no sense of humour these days, if it's not leftist humour, that is. No wonder Terry had Wogan House named after him; these are pretty funny and Terry is much missed. A seasoned professional, and a broadcaster of integrity Infinitely better than the young Pretender Graham Norton. Or anyone else on the BBC for that matter.
Do the left have a sense of humour?
Ou thanks God for death one jork in second year from england
Never found him funny. He was like the Nigel Farage but for Eurovision instead of the EU Parliament. Making money out of it but trashing it constantly
Have you heard his commentary from the 80s and early 90s. He was much calmer them, and genuinely showed his love of and affection for the contest. The televote, and the consequences of that being introduced, decimated his love for the contest.
@@JeSuisRene Yeah he was much better then but I think it's the expansion of the countries to over 40 that bothered him and in connection with the free language rule. The UK had an advantage before these changes
@@Troyian74 yes, he was annoyed the UK no longer did well, but you could argue that he actually called for the free language rule in 1997, when he said something along the lines of how it would be better if all the songs were in English so we as the audience had a better chance of judging them all.
Yes Terry might have come up with some funny quotes through the years, but Christer Björkman is soo right about him being the leading force to completely ridicule the contest in the UK to a point that i don't think we will ever see the nation actually making an effort again.. And because of that i don't really have any respect for him..
poertjt2 So? Have you watched Eurovision? It deserves the puss taken out of it
To be fair, the UK made a serious attempt in 2009, after Terry had stepped down from his role...
Could you please explain why I keep hearing Christer Bjorkman's name when it comes to Sweden and the ESC? Has he become some important factor in the decision making somehow? And how did this happen?? Could you tell?
Who.is Christer Bjorkman?
No - Bucks Fizz (🇬🇧 1981) had a much greater influence in the ridicule of the contest within the UK than Terry ever did, if you look carefully.
Don't find one comment funny. He obviously lost his sense of good Irish humor once he sucked up to his Majesty.
I guess humour is just subjective
And, in case you didn't know buffoon it's Her Majesty, as we have a Queen.
Do you mean her majesty the Queen. Terry died 2016
I miss Terry
