This always makes me think of those families that have "military traditions", generation after generation of soldiers. While admirable, it's also a bit sad.
Why do you consider it a bit sad as well? Just curious. I come from such a family so I dont see that side of it. Great grandfather, grandfather, father, myself, my son all served or are serving. Our family loves this country and wanted to defend it. We didn't influence each other to join. My father actually advised me to not join, but being the rebellious teen, I joined. That being said, could you explain why it's a bit sad? I respect your opinion and want to learn from it. Keep the horns up, brother 🤘🤘. Let's enjoy the music.
Bobby Ball First let me say, I respect everyone's rights and reasons for choosing that option; hell, I even tried to enlist back in the day. But, as the tone of the song lyrics point out, it seems like an unending feeding of flesh into the meat grinder of war. With those in higher positions seemingly giving little to no care and regard about those that they send to their premature deaths. Patriotism is admirable for what it is, but it just saddens me to see successive generations in certain families continue to jump into that fray. Not to cast dispersions, but I'm also forced to wonder if your father was aware of your rebellious streak and used a bit of reverse psychology on you. 🤷🏻♂️

We serve for so many reasons. College. Money. Family. No one wants to die. Everyone hopes they won't. When we are deployed into harm's way, we know that our leadership has given us the best training, the best equipment, and the best chance to survive while accomplishing the objective. This song sees service from one perspective. There are others. I'm proud of my service and proud of my brothers in arms.
There's a lot of wisdom in this song especially for how young they were here. By the end of my 6 years in the Army I don't think I even had this level of insight into what service men and women really are to politicians.
J, you are such a kind and gentle soul, it was almost difficult to watch you watch this. It's harsh, but real. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Almost all of Metallica's early works had more classical music arrangements to their songs as opposed to pop music song structure. You can really feel it in their intros and transitions.

In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.”
People talk about how, amazingly, Metallica's music can relax you to sleep. Here is why: Metallica is a band of perfection. They are about absolute time and tune. This makes their music mathematically perfect in every way. This mathematical perfection is sound that is easy for your brain to receive and process. No messiness. It's scientific. Your brain literally processes THIS band's music exactly the same way it would process Beethoven or Mozart. So, yes. Metallica melts your face while also acting as a lullaby for you, lol. That being said, could you explain why it's a bit sad? I respect your opinion and want to learn from it. Keep the horns up, brother 🤘🤘. Let's enjoy the music.

First let me say, I respect everyone's rights and reasons for choosing that option; hell, I even tried to enlist back in the day.
@@sean_b_drummer right on, dude. Thanks for the reply.
Bobby Ball
Cheers, man.
You two, stop it now! This is RUclips, no decent and respectful conversations are allowed, you should know that... Now, please insult eachother, you get one each, thank you.
Metallica - And Justice For All
You'll love it.
@IDC About Your Feelings WTF are you talking about? Only a moron would think they "sold out" with their heaviest & thrashiest album ever.
Wish I could upvote this more than once.
@I'm a Ba Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na na they sold out with The Black Album. Poser.
never clicked so fast, my favorite song from the album. This video made me wanna listen tot he album again. ENJOY JAMAL!
Man as a fan of Metallica for almost 30 years it is refreshing to see these reactions. My family went trough war in Croatia while i was listening to the songs like this one.
This song is like hanging on to a runaway diesel engine. Lets GO! Awesome review
Please do the song No Leaf Clover off of S&M album by Metallica!!! And the song ...and Justice For All!!!!
Like no seriously, NEED to see you react to the album and Justice for All
But why?
@@woodchuckmarmalade7878 The song "...And Justice for All" is a brilliant attack on corruption in our legal system. The song is great and the lyrics are poignant. That is a great recommendation!
Terrific song thx for sharing that, brought me back to when I was 15, lol, great choice, seen Metallica live many times, and I hope many more, thx again,gr8 choice 🤘🤘🤘
Probably my favorite Metallica song of all time. The superb playing, tempo changes, and Lars frenetic drumming is unmatched by any other Metallica song
One the BEST intro's Metallica ever did....that cord change....master piece! .....#3 on my gym set!
There isn't a bad song on the "Master of Puppets" album you really should check out any of the songs on the album you haven't heard yet
This is Metallica’s best song ever. Prove me wrong.
Brings goosebumps to me, remember seeing them perform this live in Milton Keynes
My favorite Metallic song!
it's almost a must at this point for you to react to Orion. In my not at all humble opinion of the best instrumental songs
I know it's weird, but I am in my 60's and never appreciated Metallica until a couple of years ago. Go figure. Another great anti-war song in the harder rock genre is Black Sabbath's War Pigs.
You should check out the video for the song "One" from their " ... And Justice For All." album .... its heartbreaking. I think its the best anti-war songs ever written ;(
When Jamel said, "What an intro!" I said, "You ain't heard nothing yet!" 😂
Still waiting on Metallica "For Whom The Bell Tolls"!
Live...Cliff'em all version!
@@thewolf7119 that's the best version
‘Tis a favorite
A day on the green. CLASSIC!!
Dadamdadamdaaaammmn! Dadadadaaadedadaadadadaaa!
This is why I love this album so much. Deep, heavy, brilliant. Check out Lepper Messiah also.
So freaking eclectic with your choices today.
In the Summertime, Frankenstein, Your Love and Disposable Heroes. Amazing, brother. Keep up the amazing job.
Truly enjoying this channel and your walk though the music we grew up on. The look on your face, as you try to process some of these songs is priceless...
Had a gunny on my porch in 97 I was close to being a Marine but my gut said no.. No offense to those who went to Iraq or Afghanistan but I laid down my guns and picked up my bass guitar!
Hetfield's Sledgehammer right hand at it's finest......
The main verse riff is super satisfying to play on guitar once you get the timing correct. I love this song so much. Glad you enjoyed it!
One of my favorite Metallica songs ever.
Please appreciate our Veterans.
Deepest appreciation for veterans... the irony is they care and make the ultimate sacrifice...that is how I interpret this song.
Being one myself I try and look and for any and all of my brothers and sisters in arms.
Modern veterans are racist baby-murderers
@@lzw3 go talk to the soldiers that crawled through the ashes in the death camps in Germany or the ones that had to deal with mass graves all over the world. It is easy to talk safe in your bed room. They have been saying that for a thousand years. Try come up with something new. Try to have one original thought in your life time please
@@dagdamar2000 I said modern soldiers. I respect the nazi killing veterans of WW2. Today's veterans are all too complacent with nazis roaming the street,. strangely
Every fan's favorite album. And easily their best writing. Great reaction, love your face around 7:42. They also have a song called To Live Is To Die. Worth a listen...
They were never the same after Cliff died.
And Justice for All is my favorite album
One of their very best tunes and my favorite off this release. THIS IS METALLICA!! BACK TO THE FRONT !!!
They actually have a song called "To Live is to Die." Worth checking out.
I heard this when I was 13 and I was hooked for life.top Metallica song for me. The lyrics are fire.
My favorite part was watching his face melt to the solo! Mind blow, face melted; utter disbelief. At least that what I saw.
A brutally honest portrayal of who and we are as a society, and what militarism does to masculinity. Metallica at their best.
Jamal: Lets jump right into it.
Metallica: Hang on!!!
This song just always punches me in the face. Love it!
Favorite Metallica song of all time !!!
It's a kick to the face, that one. Great reaction!
Stellar song~ awesome choice
Metallica are one, my favourite bands, for a long time, always good to see people still discovering their gems.
stirs up hardcore emotions in all of us.
Listen to “No Remorse” from the album Kill Em All
That’s my favorite too
No remorse has 3-4 songs in it
Enerjik I love how they add multiple riffs to there songs... They were the first!!
@@jaybones821_YT thats right man, and they made those songs when they were only 19-20 years old!
Enerjik are the best. And I caught the Metallica bug a little late. Like 1993 ish
Have we not done Welcome Home (Sanitarium) of this album yet? Get on that one man!
Glad you did this one. This and frayed ends of sanity are my top two Metallica songs
One of Metallica's best, and under-rated songs. 10/10 from me.
Friends shirt and Disposable Heroes. What a contrast. Love it
This song, and Dyer's Eve, and Damage Inc. are their angriest and most aggressive songs. Pure intensity.
Dyer's Eve is incredible! :) 🤘🤘
J, you are such a kind and gentle soul, it was almost difficult to watch you watch this. It's harsh, but real. I'm glad you enjoyed it. As others have pointed out here, there really was nothing like 80's Metallica. It was the right time and the right band and I'm very fortunate to have been front row for much of it.
One of Metallica's best and one of the most impactful anti-war songs ever made.
Almost all of Metallica's early works had more classical music arrangements to their songs as opposed to pop music song structure. You can really feel it in their intros and transitions.
Cliff :'(
Cliff burton bro. classically trained, Metallica lost more than a bass player
@@zane4575 try just weren't the same after the bus rolled. Justice was mostly already written so it's their last great album IMHO
@@rodentnolastname6612 agreed bro. I have a soft spot for load.. Don't laugh lol, but the first 3 albums are the only Metallica that matters
@@zane4575 4 and 1/2 albums really.. Kill em all and the original Garage Days are still solid. I was luckily able to catch them on the tail end of Justice tour with Faith No More opening!!!!! 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
This whole album is this kinda good and this kinda powerful. And everything from Ride the Lightning as well. My very favorite is Orion, but as much as they annoyed my with their hardcore anti-piracy stance, they really do have a lot of really great music over the years. My first album was And Justice. Harvester of Sorrow 24x7 for months after that, lol.
P.S. Metallica is definitely a Studio Version First kinda band, IMO. While they are good live, they are also greatly enhanced by studio magic.
More than any other, this song made me a metalhead. They wouldn't play Metallica on the radio, but it still sold like crazy. Nothing else out there really sounded like this.
"Orion" from these guys is also pretty awesome. Pure instrumental-metal and one of the best too :)
This song is the reason I told a Navy recruiter off when he called me in high school.
imho they're best song, I know Master of Puppets is up there as well but this just goes beyond
Lu Ger You rally can’t do metal better than this. The writing A+, every member shows out, amazing transitions, beautiful solos, and the band is as tight as humanly possible. Also, Hetfield’s right hand is a machine gun. His down picking is unrivaled. Just incredible.
The time signature changes and the so many ways they change the beat and rhythm are just amazing.
After Harvester Of Sorrows this is definitely my favorite of their songs
Metallica, and metal music period. Has always had something to say. Its deeper than alot of people give it credit for
I got this on cassette the day it came out in March 1986 & after about a million times listening to them have never got tired of hearing any of it.
React to Damage, Inc. it’s on the same album. Best metal album ever: Master of Puppets.
Jim Ave Leper Messiah, too. so heavy and underrated
Damage inc for sure
I went to a secret gig when they played as Damage Inc. I can't remember now if it was supporting Metal Church at the Marquee club in 1990 or the 100 Club in '87. They came on to a half-empty floor at the Marquee. Great memories!!
WW2 , Vietnam with the draft. Kids weren't given a choice. You went or you booked up to Canada before they got you.
@Tammy T You're blind girl, sad..
@Tammy T Have you enlisted to risk life and limb for corporate America.More cannon fodder is always needed.............
Apart from fleeing to Canada to keep from being drafted, the only ways that you could avoid being drafted were:
If you were mentally or medically unfit for military service
You're a a college student
One of your parents was a senator or some other type of government official
@Tammy T I served in the Marines as well.Thankfully I never went to the ME to fight in the oil wars.I'm going to drop a quote by MajGen Smedley Butler USMC.Your husband will recognize his name I'm sure........“I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers.
Or you could fake bone spurs like Trump or go AWOL like Bush jnr .
That's that OG Metal baby. Deep, Harsh, Heavy, and to the point. No shyness
I used to go to sleep with this album on full blast, in headphones...the music stopping at the end would wake me up.
Welcome to paradise, my friend.
