Robert Morris (born July 29, 1961) is an American former pastor who is the founder and was the senior pastor of Gateway Church, a megachurch based in Southlake, Texas. In 2024, he resigned from Gateway Church after allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor when he was in his early 20s.
In 2009, Morris and Gateway Church worked with Jay Hayford to start a branch of the King's University in Southlake, with the Southlake branch ultimately becoming its main campus in 2014.[3]
Prior to the allegations against him, Morris had announced he intended to step down as senior pastor of Gateway Church and transition his son into the leadership role by Spring 2025.[3]
    Advisor to Donald Trump
Morris served on a 25-person "evangelical executive advisory board" to Donald Trump's successful 2016 presidential campaign,[4] and he hosted Trump at Gateway Church in June 2020. Following the sexual misconduct allegations, a spokesman stated Morris has no role in Trump's 2024 presidential campaign.[5]
Alleged sexual misconduct with a minor
In June 2024, it became public on The Wartburg Watch, an internet website focused on reporting abuse in churches, that Cindy Clemishire, a 54 year old woman, had claimed that on Christmas night in 1982, Morris, whom she has been staying in the same household with, had invited her to his room, instructed her to lay on his bed, and then proceeded to touch her breasts and feel under her panties. At the time, Clemishire was 12 years old and Morris was a 21 years old traveling evangelist.[6] She further claimed that similar encounters with Morris continued to occur over the next four and a half years. She recalled him saying, "Never tell anyone about this" and that it would "ruin everything."[7]
In 2014, Morris gave a sermon saying he struggled with sexual immorality as a teenager and that he "learned to lie and manipulate" and "looked for the girls that would be the most susceptible."[6]
Following the allegations by Clemishire, Morris confessed to a "moral failure."[7] It was reported by the Christian Post, a Christian news source, that Morris had stated that he priorly engaged in "inappropriate sexual behavior with a young lady" in a home where he was staying "on several occasions" over a period of years and that the behavior constituted "kissing and petting" but not intercourse.[5] The sexual relationship lasted between 1982 and March 1987,[6] when the "situation was brought to light" as he was serving as pastor of Shady Grove Church in Grand Prairie, Texas.[8][7] He then left ministry and underwent counseling before being approved to return in 1989.[5] He stated that he and his wife met the survivor and her family and that they "asked their forgiveness, and they graciously forgave me." Clemishire says although she forgave Morris, she never approved of his return to ministry.[8]
The Board of Elders of Gateway Church acknowledged they were aware of Morris having a past inappropriate sexual relationship, but they stated that it was their understanding that it was an "extramarital relationship, which he had discussed many times throughout his ministry" and that it "was with ‘a young lady’ and not abuse of a 12-year-old child."[5] The elders have hired a crisis management law firm to investigate the matter further.[6]

She wants money!! This situation could have been handled privately instead of her going public about it long ago instead of 40 years later. He shouldn't have been allowed to preach long ago. God can forgive him but sometimes there's lifelong consequences that follow such behavior. I pray that Cindy can forgive him for her own sake and peace of mind.😢

First off, she reached out almost 20 years ago - privately. That evidence came out from the several emails sent by Cindy to Robert. She was messed up from nearly 5 years of inappropriate behavior, when she was a child. No doubt at that age that will incur massive mental and emotional consequences. She asked for restitution for what she endured (rightly so), and this was a time when Robert was a multi-millionaire. Instead of begging for forgiveness, and compensating her, he threatened her with a lawsuit. He held tightly to his money, which is not a good thing. Then he preached a message about this situation, but indicating she was a "young lady" as if to be transparent. I presume a safeguard in the event she comes out. However, after several years she had had enough. She came out publicly and the results were not what Roberts anticipated. All this being said, I agree with you. I pray for Robert, his family, the Gateway members, and for Cindy. I pray for forgiveness and healing for each of them. This does not condone what he did, but let's not give the enemy ground. Jesus paid for Robert's sin, but this event disqualifies him now from ministry. Cindy also has a right to be compensated, which are pennies to what Roberts has, given his massive net worth.

@@iconlex From all I have read; the man is not truly repentant. He also preached a false gospel, the prosperity gospel is 100% false! It scares me to think what other horrid things he has done to other young girls. BTW... a 12 year old is a child, not a "young lady." He admitted looking for young girls that were weren't close to their fathers and weak. It's too bad the guy isn't going to prison. I hope those that knew of his sin, is held accountable too.

My dear sister in Christ, I promise you that my goal is not to argue or disrespect you. Please, please, believe that.
But two points I want to submit to you for your consideration.
I’ve been attending Gateway for many years. As far as it’s humanly possible, I’m fully convinced that pastor Robert (in his own words) has “walked in purity and accountability” for the last 35 years.
Since it was Cindy’s dad that made the decision to not turn pastor Robert over to the authorities, but allow the church to “judge” Robert (1 Corinthians 6:1-2) and because Cindy, 3 months shy of turning 20 in October of 89, and her dad, forgave him, knowing it had been 7 months he had been restored back to pastorship, as far as I’m concerned the matter was addressed and closed then.
I believe pastor Robert meets all the requirements mentioned in 1 Timothy 3. Having “a good testimony among those who are outside”, refers to things in the PRESENT that could be proven, otherwise no one would qualify.
No one has the full revelation of how to interpret Scripture, or how many things in it should be applied. Our culture, upbringing and past experiences has a lot to do with it.
One last thing… If, and I repeat, IF, there is proof that Robert Morris AFTER what he calls his restoration process, that ended on march 89, and claiming to “walk in purity and accountability” ever since, is proven false and he continued molesting “young ladies” or girls (minors), I have nothings, and I repeat, NOTHING to say in his defense. BUT, if he has in FACT walked in “purity” after that, then I see nothing in Scriptures that would not allow him to continue serving as a Pastor.

We are ALLLLL equal sinners with Robert Morris. If not for Gods' Grace we'd all be on our way to hell. What went on between Robert Morris and this girl was clearly a satanic act designed to do just what it did- take out one of the best teachers of Gods' Word in these end times. If God forgave him and remembers it no more then why can't you child of God? When I see Robert Morris I see a mirror image of me- I'm a sinner too- we all are. Thank God Jesus came for us sinners.

What i don't understand is, that when she told her father....why didn't her father accuse morris with the cops n make a report?
If everyone spoke and agreed that Morris would step down for two years, which he really didn't complete allegedly. .then I understand the issue was handle then. So to me, it seems like more vengeance then correction n recompensing.
I'm so sorry she had to go thru such an evil n traumatic event....but everything is being handle a little weird n late. Now Morris could had stopped all this if Morris would had paid her since the beginning in 2005 I think she ask for 50,000. He should had paid 1mil and close the case. I dont agree that after those emails Robert got cocky b didn't pay.
Now he pays what he sowed. But I wish she would had addressed this without looking like vengeance and just what it is....her pain of being molested.
Bow, Morris family who are going thru so much pain too, don't need to be pushed around. I'm talking about his children. I dont know what his wife knows other then her call to the victim n that call was not nice.. but she too could had been deceived n believed Morris. He could had repentant but didn't do amends.
Now, I also wonder, was that the issue he had to go to a psychologist for...was that the demon he fought?
    Wow this is serious 😳
