Ryan is the best presenter for bike accessories reviews I've ever seen. The humor mixed with incredible research along with the production quality is what makes this so entertaining and educational.
Ryan, I know this review is 3 years old but I’ve been hearing concerns about cellphone mounts and vibrations killing new phone’s OIS sensors. This seems like a perfect scientific problem for you to solve - most shock absorbent phone mounts.
Not just concerns about vibration but down right angst. Killed my iPhone 11 Pro not knowing about the vibration issue. Then went back to my 7 for a bike phone/gps (having to manage 2 phones since I wasn’t going to abandon my 11 due to the cost and awesome photo quality). Waited for months till I found quad lock which sold a $150ish set up that claimed to have a vibration dampening system built just for the iPhone. Well that turns out to BS with a side crap. After riding for a couple months (I’m a daily rider rain or shine) and found my camera starting to fail again or at her the autofocus failing because the vibrations damaged the gyros. Would be awesome if some actually researched their product and could tell us which mount to use. Looks like I’ll have to down grade to an android lol
@@comptrjnky I was actually thinking about using an old iPhone 7 or even a 6 for GPS. Ultimately I picked up the Beeline. It's winter in the Northeast US right now and the bike is away. But all accounts say it's a pretty damn good GPS. We shall see.
Apple’s camera OIS worked just fine until they started using multiple lenses. An iPhone 7, 8 or 2020 SE will be just fine. Forget any later iPhone with multiple lenses and get a GoPro.

+FortNine hey F9, what if i have no handlebar space and dont have access to my stem nut? my 2015 MT07 has woodcraft clipons and the adapter covers the stem nut..
Hey! You've got a couple options there. A mirror mount (fortnine.ca/en/shad-cell-phone-holder-mirror-bracket) is a good choice. We also carry a RAM Mounts base that attaches to the brake assembly (fortnine.ca/en/ram-mounts-brake-clutch-base). There are a few other options from RAM too - bolt head mounts, reservoir cover mounts and gas tank bases. Check out this page for all of them: www.rammount.com/activity/motorcycle-bases. Hopefully one of those will work for you. Good hunting. ~RyanF9
Tackform for the win. All I needed to hear was a motorcycle cop review saying they are so solid they use them for their whole fleet. I bought one and absolutely LOVE it!
I watched 1 video then ...boom ... All my watched videos for the last 3 days are for this guy ... thanks for creating such a clever and incredible content
RAM also has a simple bolt with a ball attached that replaces one of your bar riser bolts. Then you attach a 2 ball extension to it. I use it in my Triumph and it's rock solid.
Been running the Ram Mount on the Lucky Daves Lucky 13 handlebars on my 2016 HD Lowrider since purchase. Lost my phone out of the mount at just shy of 100 mph with a STRONG crosswind. The phone was in a LIFEPROOF case and alive when found! I immediately bought the safety web and some extra rubber boots and never an issue since!
JZilla76 man the same thing happened to me today. I was passing a car around 100 mph and my phone flew out my ram mount. I have the safety web and that delayed it flying off so that was the only reason why I was able to catch my phone
The RAM forkstem mount works well but not if you follow the included mounting instructions. The problem is the included hardware includes a single locknut that tightens to a point that the bottom plastic nut pocket washer (Part F) that grabs the rubber just rotates and the whole assembly does not tighten inside the fork stem hole. The way to fix this is as follows. Instead of cutting the rubber 1/8" above where it meets the forkstem per the instructions - cut it at the point where it meets the forkstem. Reduce the distance between the top cut and the bottom cut to about 3/4" rather than the 1" stated in the instructions. Next - buy an additional 5mm nut from Home Depot (not a locking nut). When assembling the mount washer (Part E) should be a size that is slightly smaller than the diameter of the fork mount hole (so it can slide down inside the fork mount. As you put together the whole assembly the instructions put the 5mm nut on first to it goes into the bottom of part F and behaves like a captive nut. This is not a lock nut and will now spin properly when the main screw is tightened. Next put one of the extra smaller washers and the brass locknut (Part D) below the extra Home Depot nut (that is now sitting inside Part F). Tighten Part F until there is just a small amount of vertical movement in rubber cone (Part A). Then tighten locknut so that it and the washer above it press lightly against Part F. The bottom washer and the lockout will now prevent Part F and your Home Depot Locknut from falling off when the assembly is loosened (if you want to remove it). New insert the whole assembly into the fork stem and tighten the screw. Everything should now tighten properly. If you want you can add a bit of locktite to the screw thread on the Home Depo nut - it can prevent it from coming lose as this is not a locknut however I'm quite content to periodically check the tightness of the mount and add a 5 mm Allen key to the bike's toolkit just in case it ever needs tightening while out on a long trip.
I went with the Ram Mount. It's awesome. They also have so many different configurations that you can build a set up for any phone to work with any placement on the motorcycle. I recommend using the rubber web to secure the phone. The x-grip itself doesn't seem to grip well enough if you hit a big bump.
Number one problem with quad lock and rockform is they're only actually good for iPhone and some Samsung. You have to have a smooth plastic case and buy the optional adhesive mount. You have to be an idiot to trust adhesive. My choice of stem mount is TechMount.
Talking about the ball joint arm made me think of Jobbythehong. And I doubt anyone here watches his videos. As always, great video. Never get tired of seeing that lovely adv in the back.
RAM x-grip with the stem mount all the way! Picked up at fortnine of course. I ride pretty hard and my phone never budges. RAM stuff is expensive but well worth it considering most smartphones go for well over $300. RAM products are a worthy investment.
Used the ram mount x grip with the rubber keeper. Kept my phone nice and secure in a crash. Hell, I had to turn off my bluetooth afterwards because my music was still playing.
Doing alright now. I was impressed with how well the ram mount worked though. I figure that was a good crucible for the mount. The phone didn't even budge.
It's funny that you mentioned that lol, I crashed with the X grip too last year and my phone stayed snug. I am just now finishing the final touches on my rebuild of my bike, I took the rest of last season off to basically rework the entire bike while it was out of commission. That mount is still on my handlebars to this day lol
I just put a 2"x5" strip of industrial strength Velcro loop material on the back of my phone case, and then I put velcro hook wherever I want to mount it. A patch of velcro hook on my gas tank is all I need to hold my phone securely. It dampens vibrations, it's grip gets stronger when shook or twisted, yet the phone comes off easily with one hand.

3:10 I had the same problem with the RAM X Claw & pressing my phone's buttons. There's no way my S21 could be used & the final straw was the rubber "gasket" broke after only a week. I ended up with a Quadlock. Bonus, I could get a wireless charger & anti vibration adapter. Minus? The Quadlock case is basic & little protection. I'd like a Quadlock case that's as good as an Otterbox

RAM does make very good stuff. I've used their devices for several applications - GPS, iPhone, iPad Pro 9. They never move. No commercial - just my experience.
Ram mount works awesome, I ride crazy enduro and trials and never had it fallen, even when I crash , The issue I had was I flipped over the bars one day and ram mount dug into my stomach, I have a phone shaped bruise , got checked for internal bleeding , probably not the safest mounting area on the bars.
The finger mount holder is the best one. 3 different sizes of fingers and holds cell 360 covered. 3 inch arm fully adjustable and handle bar mount which holds the best as well. I ride with 100 n more all season so I did the research before I bought it. $53 for all parts and 5 minute install. Trick is put some electric tape w sticky side out around ur point of the bar mount piece position. Stops any scratches from movement. Hasn't budged or failed me once in 2 years 16000 miles.

good video, nice options. however, I use slip grip car mounts. They will send you a preformed case with any ram mount attachment for your car/motorcycle. The best part is that they will specify what case you have on your phone so that it will always fit no matter what. Never had an issue with this thing with 2 motorcycle crashes.
Hey Ryan it's been a while since this video has been posted. Can you please do an updated version for 2018 and try the Quadlock, SP Gadgets and ROKFORM Thanks
Bought a aluminum CNC mount that locks my phone with a thumbscrew, 12$ on aliexpress. Solid as hell, bar mounting is a bit limited but works perfectly on my XSR700. Could be 6 of these for the price of one RAM mount.
I have the Ram tough claw that you feature and after a few days,my phone took a dive while going 60 on the highway.Thats $849.00 samsung note 5 down the drain plus all my pictures, including wedding pictures.Luckily i was able to recover my shattered broken down cellphone but my pictures are all messed up.I always checked the rubber little fingers to make sure it is secure.I switch to the old school Ram Mount RAM-HOL-UN4U Universal Finger-Grip Phone or Radio Holder (Black) which works better and i never had a problem.I used it for many years through rough terrain and base on experience ,it is a better choice.I do like the Claw system but not the holder that comes with it.
Why in the world are you not using Google Photos to back your pics up? It's free and backs them up every time you are on Wi-Fi. Plus about 100 other features like editing, making albums, sharing, etc.
I'm not even old enough to ride a motorcycle and yet I've been watching for months. The production quality is amazing. I have a bike so some things can transfer over but not much. I just love the videos. I won't stop watching any time soon!
I used the Aduro u-grip and it was great! Less than $15 as well. It was on my Ninja 300, but I sold it a few weeks ago and there’s no space for anything on the cbr600rr so I’m going to have to pick up the fork stem mounts
Subscribed, followed you on Twitter and Instagram, and liked you on Facebook... Your videos are awesome! Although I don't own a bike (yet), very fun to watch your reviews
1. Hitcase only is available for iPhone users. 2. The X-Grip is a good holder for phones. However (like you said) it interferes with the power and volume up/down buttons on iPhones and Galaxy devices alike. Also, when the phone is in the X-Grip, the X-Grip can rotate side to side about 30 degrees, very annoying if using for filming. I used to own one of these and gave it to a friend.
I‘d suggest to check SPGadget. The phone is in a specific case. I can also add a weather proof hood. I originally used it with the velcro band (rubber layer on the inside) on my vintage Vespa. Now I have a mount on the mirror holder. No problems so far with speed up to 90 km/h. And another mount is on my MTB. No problems so far on hard trails.
A big problem with pouch-style mounts: HEAT! I used one for a few years. On long trips, with the phone in the closed pouch, and charging, the phone would shut down because of heat. Thatès another advantage in favor of the Ram mount.
I have a RAM X-grip mount and I've noticed that sometimes my phone will get loose on bumpy city streets, has fallen once or twice. It stays within the rubber "feet", but it's the rubber feet themselves that vibrate off their metal stem. Each rubber foot just slips onto the metal pin for it, there's no retention notches or adhesive etc. The rubber stretchy thing that comes with it works just fine as a workaround, slip it over each corner of your phone and it's not coming off even if you crash - it's easy to over-stretch and tear tho so be wary of that. To be fair, I use a PixelXL in a rugged case so it's a bit on the large side for what that's worth. Just an fyi.
I suggest, if you get the Arkon, you find a cheap aluminum ball mount to replace the Arkon mount. Or pay extra to get the Arkon model with the aluminum mount. Yes, my plastic Arkon ball mount snapped.
look up MOB armor. the MOB mount switch bar is the best cell phone holder i've ever seen. this company needs to be known more because this thing is solid and holds my phone better then anything else.
Time for an updated cell phone mount vid Ryan.
i second that!!! we neeeeed a 2019 vid!

I’ve had two phones come out of the Ram Xmount on my bikes, at speed. Also the rubber feet fall off over time.

Hey Ryan it's been a while since this video has been posted. Can you please do an updated version for 2018 and try the Quadlock, SP Gadgets and ROKFORM Thanks
Quad Lock. That’s all you need to know
quadlock 100% the way to go
Certainly recommend Quadlock here too
Quad lock gets my vote as well.
I use rokform, no issues yet
Just trashed my iPhone 11 camera mounting to a parallel twin. Apple now has warnings. Make a good episode!!!!
My Ram quad with x amount is a few years old now and it still works great for me and it also holds smaller GPS as well perfectly fine.
The new best is deffo Quad Lock so about time for an updated video
Bought a aluminum CNC mount that locks my phone with a thumbscrew, 12$ on aliexpress. Solid as hell, bar mounting is a bit limited but works perfectly on my XSR700. Could be 6 of these for the price of one RAM mount.
the spirit beast one ? I ditched the balls and made my own screw on mount on my fireblade.. works perfect indeed .
I agree with you ram mounts are the best
Ive got the fork stem on my 2012 CBR600rr and I love it!
Noticed any rust yet? Had a CBR250r that started rusting because of the small gap between the fork stem and the little plate thingy.
Nope, no rust. i also keep my bike covered though
Hi! This is a great review - Thanks for your kind words. Would you mind if we shared it on our social media networks here in the UK? Cheers!
Hey - thanks! Yep, feel free to share wherever. ~RyanF9
Please update and cover anti-vibration to preserve iPhone sensors, and your thoughts on Rokform
The Dollar Store has a bunch to choose from... mine's mounted to the handlebars and been workin' fine for over a year.
You read my mind dude! Was just looking into this for the ducati monster 1200.
Concise and informative.
You really are hilarious, RyanF9.
I like the Quadlock myself. But the ram
Mount is also one of the best for most applications.
Nice job man. Great info thanks for taking to time to make the video . I'm getting the ram mount
Thank you, this helped me a lot. I never knew about the stem mount, it works perfect for my bike.
I'm not even old enough to ride a motorcycle and yet I've been watching for months. The production quality is amazing. I have a bike so some things can transfer over but not much. I just love the videos. I won't stop watching any time soon!
So glad there are way better and way cheaper mounts on Amazon now. $15 for a really quality one called Roam
You could pull of a Joffrey cosplay so good :D!
I used the Aduro u-grip and it was great! Less than $15 as well. It was on my Ninja 300, but I sold it a few weeks ago and there’s no space for anything on the cbr600rr so I’m going to have to pick up the fork stem mounts
You always come in "clutch"!!!!!
Another option for a phone mount (for bikes that don't have bar space) is a small (magnetic) tank bag w/ a phone pouch
He moves the Table like he moved Thors Hammer. Amazing !!
Subscribed, followed you on Twitter and Instagram, and liked you on Facebook... Your videos are awesome! Although I don't own a bike (yet), very fun to watch your reviews
What kind or bike did you get?
Really well put together video. Thankyou
Very well done video 👍🏼👏🏼
Ram claw mount is amazing!!!
Bravo. That was educational and you made me laugh twice.
Im going to say.............. Dam good Job!!!!. Keep it up Kid!
Another great review! Thanks!
Bought a $10 mount on eBay, done over 130mph countless times, stays sturdy and has a USB port for charging your phone!
A big problem with pouch-style mounts: HEAT! I used one for a few years. On long trips, with the phone in the closed pouch, and charging, the phone would shut down because of heat. Thatès another advantage in favor of the Ram mount.
I love your videos mate !! Keep going !!
Quad Lock - they make all kinds of mounts for the phone case - arm band for running, road bike, mountain bike and motorcycle.
Thanks for the info, unfortunately, They don't make cases that work with their mounts for a zte grand x max 2 phone ( 6" screen). :(
Quad lock has come out since this and it’s the nuts.
