Why young Russians don't like the current government

  • In this video I answer some of your question: why I and my peers criticize the Russian goverment, what is the reason of protests in the Russian Far East, what we think about Putin and how Soviet history affects our everyday life.
More than 50% of young Russians want to leave their country, according to public opinion polls. This is a result of stagnation that our country is living through now. Things that I personally don't like are the riot huge corruption, repression policy, riot police brutality, outdated education system, and stupid laws that restrict NGOs activities and discriminate LGBT+ people, etc.
But despite my pessimistic sentiments, I still think there will be some positive changes in the future. The gen Z eventually will have to deal with this mess. I hope you enjoy the video and the comments ;)

After having adblock on everything and always having people in online comments to point out the truth on news stories it kind of boggles my mind that people can stand to watch television at all, it's like half advertisements which is worse than on web pages because it's by time not by screen space and the news on it is all blatant propaganda with no one to challenge it.

{wicked wiki} _Amerika is an American television miniseries that was broadcast in 1987 on ABC. The miniseries inspired a novelization entitled Amerika: The Triumph of the American Spirit. Amerika starred Kris Kristofferson, Mariel Hemingway, Sam Neill, Robert Urich, and a 17-year-old Lara Flynn Boyle in her first major role. Amerika was about life in the United States after a bloodless takeover engineered by the Soviet Union. Not wanting to depict the actual takeover, ABC Entertainment president Brandon Stoddard set the miniseries ten years after the event, focusing on the demoralized American people a decade after the Soviet conquest. The intent, he later explained, was to explore the American spirit under such conditions, not to portray the conflict of the Soviet coup._
_Described in promotional materials as "the most ambitious American miniseries ever created," Amerika aired for 14½ hours (including commercials) over seven nights (beginning February 15, 1987)_
      - *do not misread the whole thing - it was a prediction/sort of NIE - national investigative estimation/ before the forthcoming invasion but in a reversed direction. T.H.E.Y. had agreed on colonizing & bloodless invasion of 15 Soviet Republics in September 1977 in Washington. Who they? The Bidens & the Gorbys of those time. **_Just reverse 'ameriKan' names into 'russian' ones, and you have 30-years long existing 'fictious Russian Federation' bloodlessly invaded by Sheldon Adelsons, Soroses, CIA-Pentagon & Co, badly surviving under Dollar & Euro domination. Judging by the UN demographic reports - the Russian (RSFSR) population had been reduced from 146 millions in 1991 to ci. 75-86 millions in 2018. _Don't you remember how sounded the joint Anglo-American demand, expressed by Thatcher in 1988 to Gorby during a press-conference? Russian population should not exceed 15 millions in 2035. Reagan couldn't make it, he was caught by ... a bullet._*

When you move from a poor country to a rich country you will trade negative aspects of life for other negative aspects of life. I was born and raised in the US and moved to Serbia to be with my girlfriend who is now my wife. I lived there for 3 years and where I worked, I earned €600 per month salary which is not great but much better than the average €200 salary. We often times struggled to live a decent life but the culture allowed for a lot of time to relax and enjoy life. When everyone around you doesn't have money, people have nothing much to do other than enjoy the company of others. We would often times meet with friends, combine our money together and make food and have drinks which as a foreigner, seemed more genuine than my experiences in the states and there was this sense of a shared experience of struggle and personal growth that helped to create great friendships. We did move back to the states though and I make a great salary for living and can afford many material possessions but the trade off is that I am always working and really never have the time to stop and enjoy life with the exception of a few weekends. Everyone else around me also live with the same lifestyle and so everyone is isolated in their own busy work and further isolated by gadgets in their free time which means that people don't often speak with each other in any genuine way. This is just my experience though.

I do however know Norwegians that have worked with Americans, and many of them say the amount of work done is often equal even if the Americans put in more hours totally. Putin's ideа of Russiа is a place where he and several of his friеnds control and own everything including the population. Also, it's not because of Putin that Russia is better now than in the 90s. When the USSR collapsed, all experts were saying it would take like 15-17 years for the shock therapy to give results. And that's exactly what happened. Oil prices suddenly were extremely high, too. We had some good companies like Yukos, Putin stоle them. We hаd real media, Putin stole the media. We had elections in Russia, not any more. We had friends in Georgia and Ukraine, now they hate us for occupying their land. We had opposition, they are now killed or in jail. I think we would now live much better without him and his clan. If Russia is what Putin thinks it should be, I don't wish such country luck. Younger Russians hate all this autocratic s*ht.

    Hi Natasha
I've watched quite a few of your videos for some months, but somehow I missed this one.
This was made over a year before Putin attacked Ukraine. It reveals a young woman wise beyond her years with the integrity and the guts to speak her mind. I admire your tenacity Natasha. I would never have had the nerve to speak up like this when I was 21.
I can only imagine how Russia could prosper if somehow freed from the violent kleptocracy that rules it now.
It feels totally unjust to me that the average income of a Russian is so much less that that of a citizen of the major EU countries. The USSR and Russia have remarkable track records in engineering (especially aerospace with a fraction of western budgets), science and the arts. As a peaceful partner (or even a member) of the EU with a government chosen at regular intervals by the people and where nobody (including the President) is above the law, just think of the vast fortunes that would not have to be wasted on a military supposedly crafted to defend against a western aggression that simply does not exist (what western country would dare attack a major nuclear armed power?). If money was not squandered like this or siphoned off at the top by corruption so that ordinary people were allowed to more fairly share in the benefits of their labours, I would think the future prospects for most of Russia would be virtually unlimited.
Over a year after you posted this, Russia is now seen as a global pariah, western companies have left and sanctions have been imposed which will increasingly hurt ordinary people who never asked for this Special Military Operation. As if that isn't bad enough, the interruptions to the supply of gas (and maybe oil), the theft of western owned leased jetliners and the unilateral demands to be paid in rubles for has and oil despite contractual obligations have left a clear message for the free world that Russia is not a reliable trading partner, cannot be trusted going forward and if you are doing business there - get out while you can. Germany who became dependent upon major gas pipelines to deliver Russian gas is now seen by western allies as naive and foolish and is desperately working to replace it with alterntives sourced from countries they can trust and to reopen nuclear power plants it had intended to close.
Meanwhile I can't begin to speak to the suffering of Russia's Slavic brothers and sisters in Ukraine as Putin attempts to impose an end to a fictional Nazi genocide by force. So much of this reminds me of Hitler, who invaded the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia under the pretext that ethnic Germans were being mistreated there, only to eventually annex the whole country or the Nazi claim that Poland had attacked them and they had reluctantly responded!
There appear to be many smart young Russians like yourself who can draw news and current affairs from many internet sources, not just government controlled ones and so have a clearer idea of the truth. No wonder Putin has had to impose laws that would punish those who would dare speak it with jail time. Yes, I've head many young Russians would like to leave and allegedly some already have. No country can withstand the loss of the best and the brightest of their young people like that and frankly it's a national tragedy that they should even want to abandon their homeland. Unfortunately for them (and I guess you) there is pressure in the west to deny any Russians travel visas at the moment - another attempt to isolate Russians but I fear this will only further hurt the wrong people.
Your English is excellent Natasha. Your videos are often more ethnographic or geographic, but usually clear and to the point - this one especially.
Thank you for not being afraid to be who you are and for speaking out. I wish you all the best of good luck.
    Greetings from Canada.

That's why there's so much immigration from eastern to western Europe, which led to Brexit.
So you know the best way to avoid immigration? Become poor. Nobody's dying to immigrate to Venezuela or Argentina. The west has immigration for the same reasons as the Middle East has immigration, coz it's rich (and large, in case of the US and Canada).

It is not so simple. There is a bigger picture that most are simply unaware of.
Look at what is happening in Murrica, it is basically a Fascist takeover, a repeat of how Hitler's National Socialists took over, but replace National loyalty with Globalist, tactics exactly the same.
According to my theories. There is a secret war going on...
There are two sides, the new-school post-modern hedonist-collectivist pro-Feminization children, and the old-school adults pro-Masculinization who know what reality is.
This needs to be combined with understanding the feminizt perspective.
What the construct of the Free Western World is, and what old-school conservatives are compared to new-school everything-anti-conservative liberal-progressives.
All of this can be explained by looking through feminizt eyes - their definition of Fascism is Patriarchy, and anything having with Masculinization to do, which is something high up on a scale of mental toughness, which they want to bring down, feminize, that's where everyone(vast majority) non-manly men are (most women, little boys, lgbtq+) and they are to enjoy existence and are too weak to dissent or do anything other than agree and follow, hedonist-collectivists.
This isn't about "rich and corporations right" versus "left for working class and poor", there is no more "left".
It is about traditional conservative values, versus liberal-progressive-anti-conservative post-modern (~historyless) values, and it is about transferring power/wealth from the old-school to the new-school.
Check my channel/video and the links in description.
Conservatives are for tradition, values, principles, effort, responsibility and the construct of the Free Western World and hence Masculinization (toughening) of character.
Liberal elites are for everything opposite, are feminizts for Feminization (relaxation) of character, wipe history clean post-modernism, remove anything masculine and Patriarchal therefore hate anything religion and oppose it, feel victimized and get support - to become dependent on it hence controllable through withdrawal of it.
One is more adult, the other more children.
This time, they are coming for anything masculine, Patriarchal, religious, traditional, conservative, capitalism, competitive, dominant, anything/anyone saying against their Party line ideology, every single pillar that the construct of the Free Western World with an open society and freedoms of thought/speech/humour, is built upon is to be reversed and defiled with vitriol hatred, until everything is feminized, sensitive and too weak of character to be of any opposition, only to bend and join in, all this without appreciating, being grateful, for what was built, nor taking responsibility further than enjoyment in the moment. What will be after? Perfect comfort and safety in exchange for all Liberty? Until those with the new power arbitrarily want something else. And so far almost everybody is just cheering for them, ofcourse only knowing the superficial appearance.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexis_de_Tocqueville#On_democracy_and_new_forms_of_tyranny
When freedom and democracy becomes freedumb and dumbocracy.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came_...
They're basing all of these on one wrong assumption.
This is like a kid saying he knows better than his parents.
The big secret is that you don't want kids voting in the household.
The system is very deliberate and well thought out.
It is a safeguard in place if the people vote for the wrong thing.
The American Revolutionary War, American Revolution and Founding Fathers is the reason why we can live in a free and open society in the Free Western World! You have to know what Fascism in the general case is, and what the construct of the Free Western World is.
From what I have been able to gather, the proper definition of Socialism is:
Everything owned and controlled centrally, and decided upon by everyone together.
      A sort of ultimate democracy.
      A majority cannot be wrong.
So I'd think, so you'd think, so one'd think. Until learning new knowledge. Which I have written about.
Neither a majority, nor a small elite, nor a single King can be guaranteed, relied upon, to either come up with a near optimal solution nor recognize/verify a near optimal solution, had knowledge helps the situation, this is physical laws of the universe, the nature of information and computation, things aren't that simple.
Democracy isn't at all even closely in actuality, what people think it is.
It plays a smaller, but important role, of a bigger whole. It is far from the singularly and crucial "magical" solution, in fact, if relied upon on it's own, quite to the contrary, statistically an almost guarantee of tyranny.
      The majority can be wrong.
Democracy cannot be relied upon to make close to optimal decisions and to create a good, open, free existence.
      Nothing really can.
This is a fundamental physical, information, processing law of the universe.
When everything is centralized, "Socialism", a democracy of all, becomes instead a dictatorship of a small elite.
This is what the construct of the Free Western World has as one of its functions/goals of not falling to.
Typically media is on the level of childish naïve kids unfortunately, where I've also been, then I applied the scientific method and went further.
Feminization is a trap of relaxation into hedonism-collectivism.
      Masculinization is an effort.
One way is a difficult exertion, the other is natural, easy, comfortable.
It is a scale of, for lack of better words, "toughness/resilience/hardness of mental character", how difficult of an environment one is able to handle.
According to my theories. Fascism in the general case is:
      Single party dictatorship.
The higher up in the party the more "right/correct" you are.
Is no law equally applying to all.
Law is arbitrary, dictated by the highest Party memeber.
No freedom of thought, speech, humour.
A secret police with arbitrary power.
Strong self-censorship, fear of speaking/acting wrong, fear of sticking out and of disagreeing, for fear of being secretly reported for anything by anyone.
Which side is for free speech and open debate, and which other side is for silencing and censoring anything that is saying/thinking against?
Which side is for the construct of the Free Western World, and which other side is for centralizing power?
      Which side is for cancel-culture?
Two very intelligent statements that are very similar:
I don’t mind surveillance, because I have nothing to hide.
I don’t mind the censorship, because I am not disagreeing with it.
      And a third one:
I don't mind giving up all freedom for perfect security, because I trust my owners.
      I have not given up.
It would seem I am starting to get what a "Globalist" is, now with the WorldEconomicForum spearheaded by China, talking all pretty words, but doing something completely different, and then their "Great Reset". They are creating collectivism for their goals, because a collectivist and collectivistic group is the absolutely easiest to control! The feminizm-sjw is a tool, a means to an ends. It's Marxist victimization-infantilization-scapegoating, whether it be genders or race, whatever can fuel it, previously historically class (bourgeoisie vs proletariat), but the centrally important thing about Marxism, is that it is an opportunistic and popularizeable narrative - not being neither scientific nor related to actual reality - just a nice sounding/looking and adoptable idea/fantasy. Collectivists "think" that they are coming up with common decisions, and that they decide "democratically", but in reality they are being steered/gaslit, just like roughly one half regarding Trump.
As a collectivist, one can only join the mob against Trump, one has no idea what it takes to be a single one standing up to several for the right thing. And the only reason one dislike him to begin with, is because that's what's popular in one's environment. Try having a factually/scientifically and logically correct opinion of own making, that is against cancel culture and you will bump in to the walls of your invisible prison. One side is for free speech and open debate, the other is for silencing and censoring anything that is saying/thinking against.
As a collectivist, one will be a mental slave to the herd, not capable of free independent thought, either knowingly or oblivious, I don't know which of those would be worse.

    Dear Natasha,
I'm from Poland. I'm interested in linguistic and cultural differences between people over the world, so I watch films connected with this subject on RUclips. I found your channel among others and I've watched a few films you made, including this of course. I want to say that you've done a great job. You're a wise and sensitive person.
At first I was a little angry at you, because in one of your films you said that you want to go to the USA and Germany and that is your goal. So I thought that, like many Russians, you look down on the rest of the World (treat it worse), but in another film you said that every country and place is important and that is what I think. I also agree with your political views and wouldn't be able to describe these things more accurately.
As to the Russian language the idea of using the inscriptions in your city and the song was wonderful. I know Russian quite well so I can understand it although it is more difficult for me to speak in Russian but I like your mother tongue very much. I was learning it at elementary and secondary school, because during socialist era it was obligatory in all socialist countries (it was during 70-s and 80-s). I also was learning German and later English and some other languages.
In fact both Russian and Polish languages are Slavic and are quite similar. Let me show a few examples of polish words very similar to Russian equivalents: (pronouns) ja, ty, on, ona, ono, my, wy, oni; tak, nie; (prepositions) na, po, przy, pod, w, z; (nouns) człowiek, język, jedzenie, dom, ulica, droga, góra, rzeka, jezioro, morze, ziemia, drzewo, roślina, świat, słońce, gwiazda; (adjectives) wielki, mały, wysoki, niski; (verbs) być, chcieć, chodzić, biegać, pływać, czytać, pisać, uczyć się; (numerals) jeden, dwa, trzy, cztery, pięć, sześć, siedem, osiem, dziewięć, dziesięć; (seasons) wiosna, lato, jesień, zima; (days of week) poniedziałek, wtorek, środa, czwartek, piątek, sobota. There are also a lot of words that are very different, for example duży (bolshoy), or even confusing (so called false friends) like niedziela (voskriesienije), tydzień (niediela); dworzec (vokzal), pałac (dvoriets). I suggest that you learn some Polish and visit Poland sometime. You can find some material in the internet, including RUclips, which is intended mainly for Ukrainians coming to Poland.
As to people and places I think that every place and people everywhere are equally important, for instance your home town Spassk-Dalny and the children and also elderly people you filmed. The fact that it's not a luxurious place doesn't mean that it is not important. People everywhere on our planet deserve good living conditions and the possibility of education and development without the need of migration. For fulfilling this task we need an evenly distributed wealth.
For me the beauty lies not in luxury but in diversity of the people and their culture. And the governments should guarantee the good living conditions (in exchange for work of course) and a balance between people and nature.
    Good luck!
