    This, to me, is the holy grail of projectors. I have a Horizon and I love it but the one place it falls short is contrast. Dual Light and Dolby are going to make this look great and the price is impressive compared to other smart all-in-one sort of projectors and even compared to 4K projectors in general. Don't get me wrong, a dedicated home theater projector will perform better for the price but I think Horizon Ultra will come close and it offers so much more: 1) Great design and the best remote I've used. The projector, remote, and even the packaging are comparable to Apple products and I think XGIMI deserves some praise because a lot of very expensive projectors look awful. They really went above and beyond with their industrial design. 2) Features like built-in streaming, decent speakers, and smart setup that make it easy to move around the house. I regularly take my Horizon outside for outdoor movie night or upstairs for movies in bed. That gives it so much more utility and value than something permanently mounted in place. 3) Solid state so no maintenance and no bulbs to replace plus fast startup time. 4) Low input lag for gaming. The only downsides are: 1) I think it realistically gets lower lumens than advertised. My Horizon claims 2200 but puts out 1200 with the best image mode. It's still bright but not the brightest. 2) The remote has no mute or input button and it doesn't light up as you mentioned but I've gotten to know the buttons by feel. It's a really nice remote, can't stress that enough. 3) No Netflix as you mentioned but not really XGIMI's fault, Netflix is missing from all but the biggest projector brands.

      Can't agree with you on the remote. I really hate that part of my Horizon Pro. Impossible to see in the dark. Wish it had a dedicated inputs button.

    • @paulgemperlein626

      @@user82938 Surprised you haven't gotten used to it. I''m not sure how much it was intentional design on the part of XGIMI but I can feel my way around it very easily due to the different texture of the buttons and the good amount of space between them. I actually sort of prefer it without lighting because usually it isn't done all that well and it would potentially distract from the screen. Going back to my Apple comparison, I don't think Apple TV has ever had a backlit remote either. I would much rather have a mute button and, to a lesser extent, an input button. And I don't mean a Hulu button because that looks tacky and is useless if you don't have Hulu. I'd want a button to change HDMI inputs and/or a user-programmable app launch button in addition to a dedicated mute button.

      The worst performing projector

    • @rodmunch69
      @rodmunch69 Год назад +3

      I got this, and the thing that stands out is how incredibly bad the black levels are. Compared to my old projector that over a decade old this things black levels are incredibly bad. In addition, it doesn't get bright enough to use in a bright room. Also you get quite a bit of laser speckle. Also it does a terrible job with non-HD/4K material. On the positive side its software works as well as a $30 Amazon FireStick, although the lack of a backlit remote is absurd for a $1700 unit. Also it sounds pretty good - but who in the world is using a projector of this cost without a sound system? The one thing this unit does really well is 3D - since shutter glasses actually fix the issue with the terrible black levels. Also having optical zoom on a projector like this is huge, which is why I decided to go with it, since I could use it in a theater room without much fuss.
      However this unit is a dud - my old decade+ projector does a better job with movies, with better color and much better contrast and black levels, plus it makes anything non-HD actually look good - where as this thing is just like a cheap TV in that it has terrible black levels, but in bright 4K scenes can look great - but everything else is pretty meh, and the terrible black levels are unforgivable, it just ruins everything that isn't daylight video.
      I shall be returning this, and for my use case, I'll go back to a traditional theater room projector. But even if I wasn't using it for that purpose, I'd still go with something else as this thing really only does one thing well, and that is 3D.

    I currently have an Epson which is very neatly ceiling mounted, I cannot see this Xgimi projector being suitable for such an installation due to the bulk and the separate PSU, the performance does however look very good. A conventional projector package with the same specs minus the built in audio would appeal more personally.

    If this thing is as good as all the reviews are suggesting (also, remember, it's gotten this year's Best Buy EISA award in this category), it might really get the Netflix starting to feel they really really ought to give XGIMI their precious certification. I mean, it's not that Netflix is winning popularity contests lately...while XGIMI doesn't seem to have any problems in that regard.
    Otherwise, it might actually be that Netflix is the one who loses and, curiously enough, all the other streaming are those who benefit from this projector's quality and getting an extra slice from Netflix's pie, without any effort.

    • @TechMishka
      @TechMishka  Год назад

      I'd use a Mi TV stick for as long as there is no solution.
      Also - the workaround suggested by most projector makers works fine.

      The black levels are beyond terrible and it ruins the projector. Also it doesn't get bright enough to use in a well lit room, so forget using this in a living room. I bought this with my own money, I'm not a paid shill, and this thing is not good. The one review you can find where the guy also says the black levels on this are terrible - he's the only honest review I've seen, and literally everything he said in the review is correct. This projector is good for one thing, and that is 3D, which I do like a lot. Also bright 4K daytime video looks great - but anything at night looks terrible, it's just washed out and grey, no matter how much you play around with the settings. Even in a very dark room, with a no gain screen, with the brightness set to 1, the black levels stink. And that lack of blacks ruins your contrast. No idea how they put this much effort into a projector and release it with such a fatal flaw. Also unforgivable are the reviews I see where people claim the black levels are good. They are as bad as I've ever seen.

    I think Xgimi have made a huge mistake here. The Chinese totally misunderstand the export market at times. They absolutely flood the RUclips community with free samples in exchange for a good review with few negatives noted. Like with this one that has a reportedly poor contrast ratio, and issues with dark scenes and lack of brightness. I’d actually say, the cheapest Epson with 3000 Lumens (CO-W01) around 1/5 th of the price will excel in some areas, particularly daytime use. Then you could by the Xgimi Mo Go 2 and be at 2/5 of the price, even at 500 Lumens it’s still quite bright in lower lit areas.
