The closing for restauration is the curse of all travellers, and it happens all the time, everywhere, at least in Europe. I suppose that usually it’s in summer because the weather makes it very difficult to do it in winter. But I visited Colmar last year and the excavation there (there must be an old cemetery cause I saw some skeletons there) was there already, so maybe it’s been closed for a while.
