    Here I was thinking I had almost maxed out all powerpoint could do and then I ran into your tutorials. WoW. Truly good work.

    Powerpoint Spice is the most amazing Powerpoint creator I have seen as she can make Powerpoint blur the line with Adobe After Effects in ways I have not seen in other Powerpoint techniques. Plus as you can tell she is a super person to share all of this.

    This is exactly the type of tutorial I need/was looking for.
    Lots of concise instructions without the slack of the minute details.
    Excellent.

    Thank you so much! I am in the management consulting field. Actually, many prominent PPT people (authors, etc.) are former consultants because you end up working on a ton of slide presentations (and seeing a lot of slides from different companies too). My work presentations are a lot more "serious" though, which is why RUclips is an outlet for me to have fun, experiment, and share the interesting tricks I've learned with others.

    What a nice note - thank you, Duke! There are a couple of options to make that strip. The easiest is to make a long rectangle in the color you want your strip to be (in this case, white) and put squares of a contrasting color on top where you want your "holes" to be (black, in this case). Select both the strip and the "holes," cut, then paste as a picture -- they are now 1 layer. Go to format> color> select transparent color, & click on the black "holes" so they now become actual holes.

    That's wonderful that you're trying to jazz up your presentations - I wish more educators would think like you! I'm glad that the tutorials are helpful - the best way to really get the techniques down is to practice doing them with your own projects as you're watching (or recreate the ones I do with the media in the description) - and if you have questions, I'd be happy to try to explain further. And you're right -animations can be done tastefully with no silly effects or sounds - good luck!

    Hi Faruq - you are exactly right! I make very good use of the replay button when I'm watching tutorials, even if they are at a normal pace, it's still hard to get from the first time. And I'm really glad that you think that my stuff is helpful -- I am also constantly trying to find tutorials for how to improve, so know how that feels! I try to make my tutorials the way that I would want to see tutorials myself. Thanks so much for watching and commenting - really appreciate it!

    Hello PPSpice, I have beating my head over lotsa websites trying to learn this stuff - but yours is a few light-years ahead of the rest. Awesome! A picture may be a thousand words but a You Tube tutorial is definitely like a few terra words at least :-). I know that it may look a bit too much to digest all at once but hey - that's what the replay button is for.

  • @powerpointspice
    @powerpointspice  11 лет назад

    Thank you, and glad that you're trying to learn quickly despite being new to the program. Nice job! This tutorial is at a more advanced level than some of the others I have -- so I'd encourage you to check out those as well!

  • @powerpointspice

    Thanks for the detailed explanation of the question (it's sometimes hard to answer questions when little context is provided). When you paste the "single-image" in, you need to line it up with the original (so don't delete it too early) -- do this by using copy/paste instead of cut/paste. Once you paste into "original slide," and line up, duplicate the slide.Now delete the NON-single image so that you're just left with the single-image perfectly lined up to the end state of the original slide.

  • @powerpointspice
    @powerpointspice  11 лет назад

    Yes, that's essentially what I meant -- adding invisible objects gives you a lot more control of the grow/shrink effects -- glad it worked!

    That’s great that the other videos were useful to you as well! It is indeed amazing what you can do with simply PPT. To answer your q’s… I don’t use Photoshop - in fact, I sometimes try to show how Photoshop-like effects can be achieved in PPT (including in my next video). For some effects, I sometimes use MS paintbrush in addition to PPT as a workaround for earlier PPT versions (e.g., in the “reveal effect with moving background” video).

  • @powerpointspice
    @powerpointspice  12 лет назад

    That's wonderful to hear! Yes, you're absolutely right in that PPT can do much more than most people think. A lyrics video will definitely be harder than my video, due to the syncing efforts, so best of luck with that!

  • @zacandmillie

    That is unreal ! It would take me forever to figure that stuff out. I will have to watch this a few more times to get a grip on some of the animation tricks. I have to use Powerpoint to teach theory lessons in the military and the stock ones we have are so boring so I always try to jazz them up to maintain interest, yet still keeping it simple so as not to overwhelm them with stupid animations or sound effects for the sake of them. Thanx for talking the time to upload these videos.

  • @powerpointspice

    Hi there - thanks for the question and for so clearly explaining it (sometimes it's hard to understand q's if ppl don't provide the video time and exact challenge they have). When you rotate an object, it rotates exactly in the middle so if you just spin the circle as is, the rotation point is slightly above the O in "about" and it looks awkward (try for yourself and you'll see). Doing what I showed makes the object longer on the bottom and thus brings down the rotation pt. to exactly the O.

Yes, in the future, I will try to keep my explanations slower in pace. For this video, I was having so much fun :) that I made the demo too long, so I had to speed talk through the tutorial portion as a result. If there are any particular places that were unclear, I'd be happy to explain further.

    Thanks again for the question - while PPT doesn't have this exact effect, the best way to recreate it would be to use the same technique as I show in my "spinning objects" video. You would just "rotate" your object around the Y axis ONLY (not all 3) in PPT (which just tilts it backwards and forwards). You can get a preview of what this would look like to see if it's worth trying if you just select your object and increase/decrease the tilt level with the buttons. Hope that helps!

    Oh nice - very creative! Yes, I had considered something similar as well but then thought it would be too tedious to even suggest. If you had the patience, you potentially could do that in PPT as well (crop individual squares to make it look like the original).

  • @powerpointspice
    @powerpointspice  11 лет назад

    Good question! You paste it on the next slide as a picture and shrink it by the same percentage as the shrink animation on the previous slide. Of course, you then have to make sure it all lines up through trial and error.

    Thank you, and that's a great question. What you're trying to do is to get the end state of slide 1 to look like the beginning state of slide 2. Duplicating the slide is a very good way to save time, but you still need to do more after you duplicate to make slide 2 look like the end of slide 1. In terms of steps, 1- duplicate slide 1 (to make slide 2). 2-See where slide 1 ends in pres mode. 3 - remove all animations from slide 2 and rearrange it to line up with end state of slide 1.

    Thanks! What I did was to make the invisible box exactly twice the size of my object that I want to grow (actually its a spring). I position the invisible object so that its center was exactly over the edge of the spring that I want to remain fixed. Then I grouped the two and added the grow shrink animation to the group. I'm not sure if that is what you meant, but it worked perfectly!! Much easier than adding a motion path. Thanks!!

    Excellent tutorial!! When you use the grow/shrink effect, it grows/shrinks from the center of the object. Is there a way of making it grow from the edge. Eg. making a box expand in size, but it is sitting on a table. You can do this by running a simultaneous movement animation in the opposite direction, but that gets tedious.

      Laura Foley Oh very nice! The corporate world definitely needs more presentation gurus like you :). I checked out your channel, too - impressive! I would consider doing a demo kinetic typography piece as a sample deliverable, sort of like what you have in your other videos, so your clients can be wowed and request it -- you may even get new leads (I get a lot of PPT requests from this video, for example, though I unfortunately cannot fulfill them due to the time constraints of my other job :/ ).

    Thanks for your questions! I'm not sure I understand your first question - could you please clarify? And are you using version 2010 or earlier? Yes, it's a bit of pain because there is not a way to show the end state unless you view in presentation mode (in PPT 2013, you can at least see the end state of motion paths, which is good). What I always do is take my best guess at the end state on the duplicated slide, the view in presentation mode, improve, view in pres. mode again, improve, etc.

    assuming you're talking about the "so" sequence --- after your make the circles in 4 pieces, you duplicate the slide and group them together OR just uncrop one of the 4 pieces so that you have just one --- to make it smaller, you use grow/shrink emphasis animation

    The only other thing I can think of other than removing it manually from each slide like you said is moving the bullets slightly to the right side in the master so that the 1st level now lines up with where the second level is in your current template -- you can even change the bullet type to match your current second level bullets.

    This is a great video! I learned a lot :) I was using After Effects, but I didn't realize you could do advance things on PowerPoint. Thank you!

      +quitefranklybb Absolutely! While it's not quite as smooth and you're much more limited in features, but you can definitely still make VERY cool stuff in PowerPoint! By the way, I just released a new video about a Prezi-like new feature in PPT, which you may enjoy as well (gives you even more creative opportunities!).

    Talk about "advanced"!!! I tried to follow, but my PP skills are so basic, it was hard to do. I'll try again later.

      Hi Ignacio -- yes, it definitely requires a medium to advanced level of ppt knowledge to do it, but great job on trying to watch anyway. If you have questions on it, let me know. I have some other videos that show tricks that are still very cool but much easier to do.

    Thanks! Hey, can you say which version of PPT you're using. Looks like I am missing a few of the functions.

    Great job on your tutorial! Question for you on the basic layering slides. You mention in slide 2 that you split the circle shape. I was trying to look at this animation and maybe though it was an effect option. Did you happen to leave out a step where you might have split the circle into halves and then inverted them with animation? Just don't want to waste time looking for this type of animation if it was just something that you did behind the scenes. BTW, I am using PowerPoint 2013.

      Hi there - thanks for the question! Yes, this video turned out to be very complex, so I didn't have time to show everything in depth in the time RUclips allotted, unfortunately. To split the circle, you have to first paste it as a picture twice (delete the original), then crop out half of it on each picture (the right and left respectively), then put the two halves together so it looks like a full circle.

    Your tutorials are so good, I hope that you are sponsored to do these! It looks like we can use PowerPoint as well as Photoshop and Flash.

      Thanks so much! And no, I'm not really "sponsored" but just do it because I like to spread the word about how much fun you can have with PPT. Yes, PPT can have some of the same effects as Flash and Photoshop, if you're creative enough!

    Love your video! I have some questions though. How do you make the circle of dots? And where is the shape outline? Please reply :)
