  • Welcome or welcome back to the stash,
    I did it. I read EVERY SINGLE Spider-Man comic ever. From his first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15 to modern-day Spidey stories, I’ve gone through it all-the highs, the lows, and the absolutely insane moments in between. This video is my journey through the entire history of Spider-Man, exploring what makes him one of the greatest superheroes of all time.
    So, was it worth it? Let’s talk about it.

    Thought it was worth mentioning that in a way this is a sequel to my 'Why I LOVE Spider-Man' video!
    obviously for a topic like this I could talk for hours on end for every single era but I tried to condense it as best I could and not talk too much about post omd because I wanted to keep a more positive tone for the video!
    anyway I hope you enjoy :)

    Also it honestly truly feels like Jonathan Hickman's ultimate Spider-Man is the definitive continuation of Spider-Mans journey essentially peter never took the deal with mefisto one more day never existed instead peter actually married mj and had Richard and may and is now continuing on as the one true Spider-Man not only that but we also have the same supporting cast now all grown up so thank you again Jonathan Hickman for reviving and freeing spidey from the trap known as omd and bnd

      Not a perfect continuation from Strazynski. I’d go with Renew Your Vows continuity wise since Ultimate never got his powers till mid to late adulthood and he’s not a science wiz like normal.
      But honestly the best continuation if they ever plan on making 616 good again is take the best aspects of both Ultimate and Renew Your Vows.

      I love what ultimate Spiderman is doing but i also think the reason it’s good is because it’s an inversion of Spider-man aswell. Spider-Man being destined to be a hero and choosing to be Spiderman rather than an accident like in the comics.

      I like the current Ultimate for giving me _my_ Spider-Man. I'm a late-comer to Spider-Man. I was there for the original Ultimate run, I picked up a few issues, but didn't have the money to really keep up with it and get into it properly. I was the right age to identify with Peter back then, and I wish I'd been more into it. Now, though, I have a millennial burned out Peter Parker with a stagnating life and career, a vague sense something is wrong and needs to change, a stifled sense of justice that he's just now coming to terms with? Hell yes. _This_ is _my_ Spider-Man. This Peter is the hero _I_ need in my life right now.

    • @Tb1025
      @Tb1025 6 дней назад +1

      @ im glad u like the series, I do too. But the whole point of this current ultimate universe is it is a complete inversion of what we know of the characters. The whole point of the line is to flip everything on its head. This world as a gimmick for alternate universes but I’d not conducive to decade long form story telling

    I actually think One More Day isn't a bad concept, I just think it should've been a fantasy by Mysterio or the Symbiote. Or something that Doctor Strange would feel in his bones that was off. Something... where Peter tries to act like things are normal, but ultimately knows that was not a good decision and must accept reality. Everything fades back to what it was, holding a dying Aunt May, she says, "I can hear your uncle... he says he's proud... I am too." And then him and MJ are still married and he stayed true to his character. Unfortunately, we have the rule of comics.... the status quo must remain and they will never end. Only through staleness and spite will they die, there is no happy ending.

    Another great video. I could say the same about my love for Spider-Man, but way back in 1969. However, even though the 1st season "Spider-Man 1967" had aired already, I started reading DC and Marvel comics in 1968 while I was in second grade. The very 1st comics I read weren't Spider-Man comics. My 1st DC comic was Superman's "Action Comics #370" released in December 1968, and the 1st Marvel comic was "Thor # 157" published August 1, 1968, with a cover date of October 1968. I remember them like it was yesterday. My neighbor three doors down let me borrow his older brother's comics to read. He was in second grade too, but his brother was in fifth grade. I had to promise to give back the comics later that day, so his brother wouldn't get mad at him. I handled those comics like they were delicate China. I was in awe reading the comics, by the art and panels, even though I didn't understand all the words written in the comic. My 1st "ASM" comic I read was "ASM # 71 The Speedster and The Spider" release date January 9, 1969, with a cover date of Apil 1969. Again, I borrowed this comic from my neighbor. My 1st Spidey comic I bought with my dad was "ASM # 75 Death without warning!" published May 13, 1969, with a cover date of August 1969. I couldn't wait to get home, go up to my room and read that comic. My mother told me later, when I ran up to my room, my dad smiled, and he told her it reminded him when he was excited as a kid with his 1st airplane model. Great times back then. Keep up the great work. Cheers!

    Your story of discovering the character really is timeless. It is exactly like mine, even though mine started earlier. Mine started with the original Venom The Lethal Protector number 1 and ASM 374/375. Before that the only Spidey comic I had was Spec 184 (Child Within Epilouge), which I also love. As ASM went on, I got more and more into it and bought old and new. Then Maximum Carnage happened...that was the gateway drug to the other Spidey titles for me. After that, I had to read it all. I didn't have access to many comic shops in my small town in the 90s, so I got my comics through Marvel's old USPS subscription service and antique stores with dusty old long boxes buried in the back corner. Lee/Ditko and Lee/Romita ASM stories, then the Kraven's Last Hunt era of ASM and early Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man issues had a huge influence on my teenage years.

    • @mnstash

      oh mate thats a great story!! It must've been so much fun growing up then with all those classic stories releasing! I always see those subscription ads back in the bronze and copper age books and just wish I could go back in time to experience that, thank you for sharing :)
      I was wondering what you thought about the clone saga when it was releasing because for me, being able to read it without having to wait for the next issues to come out made it more enjoyable, one of my hot takes for spidey comics is that I dont even hate the clone saga more so I hate parts of it

    • @WillNolte
      @WillNolte 7 дней назад

      @mnstash I enjoyed the Clone Saga, flaws and all. I am a huge fan of Ben (not Chasm, though), and Kaine (especially as Scarlet Spider) is my favorite character. I would actually love to see team up stories between Kaine and Black Cat (not as a relationship) due the possibilities of a different dynamic between the two as opposed to Pete and Felicia. As for the Clone Saga itself, when it was fresh, it was awesome to speculate on where the mysteries would take us at the time. Some of the outcomes were a letdown but most stories have their own warts.

    You might enjoy Spider-Girl by Tom DeFalco, following the adventures of Peter and MJ's daughter from the Clone Saga.
    It is set in an alternate universe that diverges just before Aunt May was revealed to be alive after the Clone Saga. Whilst the stories from the 2000s-2010s are not referenced much, the series makes many references to the canon from the 60s-90s and is a very organic continuation of that era, just obviously following Peter's daughter.

    Also just kidding first palce is MJ the only other character of Spidey media that enters my favs of all time a truly fantastic character who has had so much strugle and development to push throught and for a long time just became a better character because of it, their relantionship means the world to me its my fav fictional couple of all time and how i spire to be with rhe love of my life one day

    I decided during the Inside Times of the pandemic that I would read all of Spider-Man, just like you've done. I'm still working my way through it and determined to finish. I've just suffered the trauma of One More Day, though, and I'm really not enjoying Brand New Day. I've been told that Brand New Day is the best of the post-OMD era, so I'm really not looking forward to the future...
    I'm spacing it out by reading events like Secret Wars when they crop up, and I've decided to do the same with Fantastic Four, so any time I get frustrated or bored with Spider-Man, I'll remind myself it's not meant to be binge-read, it was portioned out issue by issue, two or three a month, week by week, sso any time I need a break, I'm switching to FF. Plus, I'd really like to get FF up to the point Peter joins them temporarily before that happens in my Spider-Man read...
    As much as I hate the resolution to One More Day, though, I do disagree on one point. I think OMD is a _good story_ with a poor ending. The need to end the run by resetting the status quo, but not just resetting to before JMS, resetting to the 1975 Spider-Man that Joe frigging Quesada read and thinks is the only possible way to enjoy the comic, that's what hurt. I think during Civil War, Peter was really pushed into a corner where he had to side with Stark and reveal his identity. I didn't hate that, and I wouldn't have hated him staying unmasked. I wish Quesada had had the balls to take the change and work with it.

      Oh God you’re in for a rough journey, I can see why BND would be considered the better portion of that era though, you got stuff like superior spider-man which wouldn’t happen if someone, literally anyone had a brain during their encounter with Peter in that time and so on. Zeb wells run is rage inducing as you could probably tell especially with the way he ruins Spencer’s work.
      Interesting take too on one more day! I’m more the type that since the story annoyed me so much the whole concept is just tainted for me to even think of other possible routes it could’ve taken

    Hello there. I am happy I have discovered your channel. I love the classic Marvel and DC superhero comics and Spider-Man was definitely for as long as I can remember, one of my favorite characters. I was lucky to grow up during the golden age of Spider-Man adaptations, with 90s Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire, and the Spectacular Spider-Man. I checked out the Ultimate Spider-Man comics thanks to the video game. This is a great video and while I do love Spider-Man, I don't know if I could read every single Spider-Man comic. Even the bad comics from before and after One More Day. So I respect you and I respect you for being a passionate and honest fan. It's great to meet a fellow fan that understands why this hero is special. I think it would also be cool to see you make a guest appearance on Thinking Critical. Keep up the good work.

      @@mnstash I've committed to picking up every issue of the new Ultimate and Absolute titles since those are brand new and pretty doable (so far lol). Every one of those books I've thought have been fantastic. To be honest, other than those titles I'm reading much more DC than Marvel at the moment. I think it helps that their All-In initiative makes it more accessible. Last time I was reading weekly was towards the end of Rebirth so I didn't miss TOO much. All the Batman miniseries they've been doing are ones I have really been enjoying like Batman: Dark Patterns, Batman: Off-World, Batman: Full Moon. I'm also loving Tom's Detective Comics right now. Joshua Williamson's Superman title is really really cool as well. With Marvel I'm taking it a bit slower just because it's much more dense to attack. I'm staying away from X-Men at the moment because I missed the whole Krakoa era that just ended and am not too sure what's going on there lol. I'm reading ASM and Wolverine Revenge, although they aren't nearly as good as the ultimate books.

    Honestly, I know the post One More Day era has some good, and even great standalone stories and arcs, but even so...I just can't acknowledge any story that was built off the premise of One More Day as canon. That story betrayed everything that Spider-Man as a character is supposed to stand for, and it never should have happened. We're at a point now where the Spide-Man spnoffs do the character more justice than the main book. As far as I'm concerned, One More Day, and everything in the 616 comics that take place after it, just don't exist.

    If you read literally every Spider-Man comic ever... Including the ones where he fought the wall-dude or that one where Peter was telling he was sexually molested as a kid... Well, I can only wish your mental health all the best since it's quite a challenge for your mental being😅 JK
    With all seriousness, the speech at the end, oh, just in the feels, man...
    I planned the same and have made almost the same journey as you did. Back in 2016 I read all the ASM, all essentials, all the necessary issues of other titles during the constant crossovers era (KLH, clone saga etc). I put that idea on pause because a)English isn't my native
    b) someday when I feel the need I could return to finish reading the rest and finally close this chapter of my life
    Some say that it's our nostalgia when we talk about USM and JMS run the way we do, but not exactly. Reading spider man throughout decades I felt the same nostalgia even for the time when I wasn't even born yet. That's because you could see and feel constant progression of a human being in those stories. I'm a bit scared of what spider-man might mean for modern day young readers and that they won't be interested in learning about him from the beginning.
    Can you imagine now we have almost the same amount of issues of Post-OMD ASM as pre-OMD ASM? That's crazy.
