Hey, everyone! Ken here with SIGA and today I'm going to teach you
how to flash a flange window with Fentrim 230 grey. Let's check out the tools of the trade. Today we're going to use a SIGA cutter
and a squeegee or a roller, and my costar for today's video is this, Fentrim 230 grey 100-millimeter tape.
Fentrim 230 grey is a flashing tape
designed for windows and doors that has a convenient 5/8-inch pre-fold that makes getting up under those window
and door frames super simple. The 100-millimeter size tape
that we're going to use today includes a 50/50 split release liner
for ease of installation. The adhesive on Fentrim
is super aggressive and will stick to most common substrates, including Masonry,
    with no primer required.
Last, but not least, this tape is going to work
in any temperature that you're working in so no slowing you down because it got too
cold or because it's too hot.
Now let's head on over to the
    window and start our install!
Here we have an American made classic double hung
flange window. You guys all have seen this,
have installed this, you know this. You love this. What we're going to show you
today is how the Fentrim 230 grey pre-fold makes flashing this type of window
so much simpler. As with any good install,
we want to shed water properly, so we're going to work from bottom to top.
This particular window manufacturer doesn't allow
for taping of the bottom flange, so we're not going to do that
in this video, but yours may allow it. So please, check your installation guidelines to see
if that detail is appropriate for you.
So, let's start with the jams. If you look at these,
they're not integral to the window frame, so this is where the Fentrim 230 grey
is going to really show its value. Now, if we were taping these fins with
a flat tape, we'd have to try and roll that tape up onto the frame to seal up
that joint between fin and frame, but with the Fentrim 230’s pre-fold,
we can easily stick that pre-fold to the side of the frame
and then bend that tape over the fin all in one easy motion. The measurement we need for this
jam tape is going to be about an inch and a half lower
than the frame of the window and an inch and a half taller
than the frame of the window.
    As I mentioned before,
stick the pre-fold to the side of the frame of the window. Now you can remove one backing paper, fold that over the fin and press it down. Now, let's remove the last piece of backing paper
and press that down firmly. All right. Wash, rinse, repeat on the other side. Now that we have our jamb tapes
installed, we're going to go ahead and make two 45-degree cuts and fold
the excess tape onto the sheathing, that way we can get ready
to install our head flashing. We're
going to repeat that step near the sill to make sure that all of our flashing
    tape is installed tight.
To measure off your head flashing tape just make sure you go about an inch
to an inch and a half on either side of your jamb flashing. The sequence for installing the head
flashing tape is the same as the jamb. Stick the pre-fold to the window frame, peel off one backing paper, fold that over the fin, peel off your second backing paper and press firmly.
You see here that we have a couple little
extra pieces of tape sticking up, so we're going to make those 45-degree
cuts again and press the tape down.
All right! To make sure this tape is adhered for, the lifetime of your building, we're going to want to use a squeegee
or a roller to apply firm, even pressure across the entire surface of the tape.
All right, that's it! We are done!
How easy did that 5/8-inch pre-fold
make that job? We now have a properly weathered
flash window in the blink of an eye.
