    Sorry for the length of this video... I enjoy rambling!
    I hope this video is helpful for those who are curious about living in SFU's Towers for first year university OR for those of you who are wondering what items they may need to bring when they move to residence somewhere else!
    Thank you for watching!
    Rachel :)

    I used to go to SFU. I lived on Shad 6. Was a good four months. :) I have since transferred to UBC, but honestly the residence experience I had here will still be the best part of my SFU experience.

    Hey Rachel, loved the video! I was really curious on what the dorms looked like and this video was supper helpful. I just have a few questions.
    I saw from previous comments that you were a Communications Major. How do you like the program? Are you finding the course load manageable?
    Also, are you involved in any extracurriculars and/or have job? Does the university schedule work with that or it hard to balance?
    Also, do you think a combined degree of Communications and English would be smart/manageable? I'm thinking of pursing that so I can have a variety of options when I leave post-secondary...
    Whether you reply to my comment in written form or make another video, thank you in advance!! :)

    Do you have hardwired connection (like by cable) in your room? Or only by wifi? I read in the official website and it says it do have but I want to make sure :), thanks.

    do you have to take a flight whenever you go back home/go back to school? I really want to go to school in BC, but I live in Ontario. I was just wondering if it's difficult to transport all your stuff back (if you do take flights back and forth).

      +Sydney Welch I'm starting my first term this may (summer, 2016), and according to the SFU residence email I received, I'm not going to be able to select a room; they'll assign it for me (I'm assuming its because its the summer term).

    Yes repping the Montreal Canadiens (Montreal native). I'm headed to SFU next year and will be staying at The Towers as well. How exactly does getting wireless internet work? I know they supply the modem, and you have to bring a router, but is it easy to install? :)

    • @RachelHoffos
      @RachelHoffos  8 лет назад +2

      +Mike Chaar GO HABS GO! :) Haha unfortunately I am not much of help for that, since I had my parents help set that up for me when I moved in. There are CA's on each floor who will be trained to give assistance with things like that, so no worries, you will find a way! :)

    • @AllThingsMike
      @AllThingsMike 8 лет назад +2

      +Rachel Hoffos Awesome! My brother will be with me and he tends to be good with electrical things, so hopefully he can set it up. If not, it's re-assuring to know that the CA's can help too. Thanks for the reply! :D

    • @RachelHoffos
      @RachelHoffos  6 лет назад +1

      There is only heating! It may suck if you lived on residence in the summer time (you would need to buy a fan for your room), but I only lived there during fall and spring and it was fine! It was only hot during the first week of school, but that was because it was still +25 beginning of September.

    what's the social/party life like at SFU?

    • @RachelHoffos
      @RachelHoffos  8 лет назад +3

      +Sean Caulfield There's a lot of hate on the social life at SFU. I think you just have to make the best of it yourself. Orientation in my first year helped me meet a ton of people, so I recommend that! As for party life, there are parties up here.... but nothing crazy.

    • @tommyyoo880
      @tommyyoo880 5 лет назад +1

      I would like to comment on this as the hater of the social life at SFU. It's subjective but as someone who has experienced social life at several other universities, there's not much society, not too many exciting clubs or events. I found the students as well as staff to be extremely unfriendly even for Vancouver standards, keeping to themselves without trying to expand their social circle. The school is way too focused academically without any attempts to balance the social life. The social life isn't much at SFU and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody that is looking to get the full university experience. UBC definitely has a much better social environment and more vibrant.

    do you know anyone who has done mctaggart-cowan hall dorm room tour

    • @RachelHoffos
      @RachelHoffos  8 лет назад +1

      +Karo och I do! Mctaggart is known for being the more 'quieter' residence compared to Shell, Towers, or Townhouses. I have been there myself, and it is quiet but I think it really depends on who decides to live there. The rooms are the same size as Shells, but the bathrooms are a lot more smaller and dingier. Shell recently had their bathrooms renovated, which is why!

    • @RachelHoffos
      @RachelHoffos  8 лет назад +2

      +Karo och Just wanted to let you know, Mctaggart-Cowan is getting renovated this summer! I think it will turn out to be a great and fun place to live on residence!

    I got into SFU ..so wanted to ask you what is more preferable ..living on campus or off campus ??

    • @tommyyoo880
      @tommyyoo880 5 лет назад +2

      I live off campus and a commuter to SFU which I am happy with and recommend. SFU has the highest depression and suicide rate out of all the Canadian universities because the mountain is so isolated, lonely, with more intense weather. That's another aspect that discouraged me from living on campus. The weather is colder, rainier and snowier than the bottom of the mountain. That's why the location isn't that great with limited resources and far away from everything that is off campus. Despite all these disadvantages, the rent is the same as locations off campus so I thought it made sense not to live there. But that's just me, since there are many positive aspects as well.
