Wait - it’s only four 20-minute episodes? The manga is 600+ pages! I LOVE the gorgeous B&W line art style the animators have used, and Uzumaki is my favorite horror manga ever, but I’m a little nervous that this will be a “greatest hits” adaptation that misses the building dread of the original. 😟
It kind is the greatest hits
It does ,i did not like it
Six word review:
Great moments, none of them earned.
Wow!!! You pointed out everything I felt watching the first episode. A perfect and accurate review.👏🏼👏🏼🌀🌀
They skipped so many chapters and are actually stuffing the dialog with exposition to fill the gaps its crazy
no
@@JoshMeyers-b4n yeah, the girl with the spiral isnt the first chapter at all, it appears later, and the girl started with a crescent sign in the book, here they didnt show it and the guy had to say it was a s crescent scar on your head wasnt it to fill in the gaps
Did you even watch the series? Crescent scar WAS very clearly shown in the episode. Sorry, but I don't think that you judgement can be trusted, considering that you couldn't even watch episode properly.
@@ulfgarion yeah but in the manga his boyfriend didnt find out about the scar till she visited him at his house and its a much latter chapter
@@shivamarya5225 Ok, now I get your complaint. Fast pacing is unfortunate issue. But your example has nothing to do with putting more exposition into dialogues.
Very accurate review, exactly what I felt while watching episode 1. I thought the 4 episodes were only for season 1, and then we'll get season 2 and on until the series finishes. Now I'm slightly dissapointment that we're getting the whole story in just 4 episodes!
@@narahman slightly ? SLIGHTLY !?
@@vedbergsmagic3217 i guess I'm still optimistic. Maybe it'll change after watching episode 2.
I think the shortness is due to the animation style. It took a long time for them to get this out. 8 episodes would've taken even longer, delaying it even further. Great review though!!
I like it but ya I wish it was a longer direct adaptation of the original three volumes where all chapters from those volumes are told one after the other in an hour long format episode based on each volume.
I was sorely dissapointed in this , they rushed this up the ass ,sacrificing the tension and dread that made the manga a masterpiece. They should just have made chapters 1 and 2 the first episode and so on.
And I didn't feel a lack of build up on the episode, knowing what was coming and the sound design was enough to get my blood pumping on every scare. I didn't care about most cut scenes too, I didn't want a frame by frame adaptation
I was wondering how they were gonna cram that full 3 part manga into a 4 part miniseries without devoting the whole night to each part. Now I know.
But I have to say, I was impressed by what I saw, if nothing else.
Honestly I didn't mind the lenght at all. They went above what I expected in the first Episodes, and it gagged me when it ended and I saw only 20 min had passed. 4 Episodes total worries me tho
Thank you very much! Ruben!
That was one thing I noticed was it seemed a bit too beat for beat
I forgot this was coming out, nice review. I read the entire manga this should be cool.
Was too fast , it misses all the buildup. Looks pretty tho
What a misfire smh I respect Pluto anime adaptation so much more!
Uzumaki and Ito’s work itself is about building dread, all of that is gone here. How can I feel like I’m slowly spiraling into madness and being suffocated by existentialism when everything is happening so fast? The pacing is terrible-the dialogue either too minimal or too expository, it’s confusing if you don’t already know the story. The story is gone and all that’s left is the spectacle that is Junji Ito’s incredible illustrations as a master of body horror. Crescent scar Tomie and snail boy in one episode? That episode being episode one?? What about the pregnant women that should be at least 2 episodes now it’ll maybe be 2 minutes or several flashes if we’re lucky? This is a “good” adaptation visual wise, but it is not a good adaptation of the narrative. It’ll be a fun and interesting short watch for people who haven’t read the manga. For people who have and really appreciate the story itself and not just the visuals, I assume they will find it lacking and kind of boring as I have. I was counting down the days till the 28th, huge disappointment. When I heard about 4 episodes that concerned me and was clearly well founded, this is not a story you can properly tell in that amount of time or format, I don’t even think it should be episodic. I would’ve gone with a full length movie evangelion rebuild style. I’ll watch the rest but I felt no emotion besides “meh” and “oh that’s well-animated” and wanting to reread the manga.
@@tasonjodd exactly how i felt, i have been so excited since it was first announced 5 years ago and I was immensely dissapointed :(
If they’re making junji ito into anime now we need no longer human
