I grew up in a textile town, she wasn't kidding when she said that all that knotting had to be done by hand, but that's an understatement, a whole lot of other tasks also had to be done.
Very interesting. I used to work in textiles before the industry left my area. Those automatic winding machines at the final stage in this video are actually splicing the ends of the yarn together, not knotting them. This ingenious process uses air pressure to blow the fibres through each other. The older types of automatic winding machines were, however, fitted with knotters. They tie the 'fisherman's knot'. I still have one of those mechanical knotting heads in my garden shed. I retained it as a keepsake when the mill closed down.
Oh yea, definitely. Which makes it even more special to realise that these amazing feats basically still have very mundane ideas at their core. But yea, that doesn't make them any less amazing.
this is how most of videos explain how Cotton becomes a string 1:45...." so you get a cotton ball and you put it in this machine and then some magic gobly gobly happens and then you get the string.
Friction. The fibers are lined up and twisted around each other so that the friction between the fibers holds everything together. To get a better sense of how this is possible, look up the phone book trick where the pages are interleaved. Think Mythbusters did a thing about it. Same principle :D
@@niamhoconnor8986 huh, I did see that phone book trick! So they are all just inches long each but when they're twisted they get stuck like the pages... that's honestly the best explanation I ever heard for it! I'm still impressed with how everything is stuck together... now on to how thread count works... haha thanks
yo trabaje por 10 anios en un laboratorio,de calidad en donde se realizan todas las pruebas de calidad, para determinar la calidad del producto que se esta procesando.
It's fun getting to watch how different yarns are made. The 'how it's made' on alpaca processes it differently. It's fun to see how they look like noodles.
@@mchris65 So I'm a hand-spinner, and basically the first, second, and third stages are all called roving until there's twist added (that's what keeps it together) to make it into yarn.
For decades before the Ring Frame became popular, Cotton Yarn was spun on Mules, but of the hundreds of thousand such machines once in use, only one is still able to spin at full production speed - see here:- ruclips.net/video/XwlhYBJ24M0/видео.html
The whole process takes 48hrs? this seems like its being overprocessed & the cotton yarn ends up losing some of its great natural characteristics such as looks, texture, & feel qualities before the dyeing coloring process because its being put through TOO MUCH mechanical unnecessary over processing!! No wonder cotton yarn is so expensive! & wish for a company out there that makes cotton yarn without all this overprocessization.
The spinning wheel was mist likely invented in Islamic world as ancient illustration recovered from Baghdad shows it's use by 1030. Evidence also point use of spinning wheel in 1090 in China. It was later spread to India so definitely not invented in India.

TheRocktalk watching for every
Really cool. Im using this vid for a school essay which i call “from field to string
Forgot the last “ oops
Could you tell me how many kgs of fabric can we make from 1 kgs cotton material? Many thanks....
Awrsome what mill did you work at? Did you work in Newbedford?
people seem to forget that we are still basically covering ourselves in plants
And our most sophisticated one on one weapons still basically consist of throwing dense bits of material at each other as hard as we can.
Oh yea, definitely. Which makes it even more special to realise that these amazing feats basically still have very mundane ideas at their core. But yea, that doesn't make them any less amazing.
It's either plants or animal skins.
Well silk is basically bug spit, wool is basically just shaved hair
Or petroleum products. Which are a finely aged mix of animals and plants 😂

I know right? I came here to learn the processes, not watching cotton get fed through a series of machines.
😂
Yea... I'm still confused about how the cotton fiber magically turns into string. Don't get it

Hate comment *-*
Flashy images. No substance. Pointless video.
I prefer the male voice on these videos, the woman's voice is irritating.
this is boring I nearly went to sleep
I nearly went to sheep :)
It’s not boring it’s the fun of EDUCATION :D so exciting I love this video!
I don't know why I'm watching this, it's all Amazingphil's fault.
It's so fucking comfy looking
But wtf happens if a strand breaks
