She sounds more like a news anchor describing scary stories to the public rather than talking about manufacturing. Both the original Canadian woman and the dubbed american male voice are much better.
@maikeydii I temped at a company that made and repaired molding dies for Rubbermaid and other companies. Many of these videos have inaccuries but they provide the lay person a good idea of what is involved in making the products that they use in their daily lives, and the industrial processes that most people will never see.
Any idea where I can learn more about the process? I've been having trouble finding information about it. I find a lot of information about how injection molds work but very little about how they are made.
Hi Brett, mold costs are from USD2500.0 to USD150K(depending on being used for making what product), part size 80*80*80mm ( mold cost is about USD4500.0 ) on average
Besides mold making, mass production, we also do assembling, packing, etc. sales01@rpimoulding.com What factors you need to consider to ask for a mold price? 1) Part 3D file or dimensions of part with unit weight 2) cavities: this is the most basic element for a mold quote. If the part is not very big, usually the manufacturer will ask you how many cavities you want for the mold? If you want 2 cavities, that means you can get 2 pieces from the mold one time. The more cavities, the bigger the mold should be, and of course the mold cost is the more expensive. No worries, I can tell you an easy solution: You can just tell the manufacturer how many pcs of the product you need per year and in the future. Then the manufacturer can calculate how many cavities is the best to save cost for you, and provide the quotation to you. 3) Part material Part material means the raw material of the part or product=what raw material the part should be made of? Maybe you say plastic. Yes, of course, plastic injection molder only do with plastic, but maybe you don't know there are so many different types of plastic. The most common used are PP, PS, PC,Acrylic/PMMA PVC, PU, PET, HDPE,LDPE( just to name some of them). I don't know. Tell you a third secret: you just need to tell the manufacturer what the part is used for(=the application) and the color you want, then the manufacturer can recommend the material for you.
CNC stands for "computer numerical control' so and machine that isnt manual controled and requires computer operations to use and control it is a cnc , such cnc milling machines cnc lathes ect ect just about every thing now days has been turned cnc
List Of Common Steel Used For making Core and Cavity in Injection Mold : smlease.com/entries/plastic-design/common-steels-used-in-injection-mold-making
Hello everyone. I'm starting to learn how the mold injection. Please!! i'm hope who have documented about how the make mold injection sharing help me. Thanks so much!!
With literally "millions" of plastic, fiberglass and metal items around us, can you imagine the millions and millions of part dies that must be out there stored somewhere? Engineering is cool!
I was so interested that I never registered the voice as terrible, just not that great. Still this video sucks in a way, because they never stayed on one part. I wanted to see the snow mobile mudguard throughout, and the end result.
I had to disassemble and clean these things for a year. Not an easy thing to learn and plastic factories don't pay enough to do it but tooling really is a skilled trade.
Good one Ian, But cooling hole drilling after machining the core and cavity profile!!! rare case. It will be drilled before the profile machining. BR//Milind
Really a great stuff. Highly professional way of presenting a mold making process. Pretty easy to understand. Many thanks for uploading a meaningful video.
Yeah, but how are each detailed part of a complicated plastic model kit designed and turned into injection molds, and how long does this take before completed kits can be produced?
@lincolnmetal1 They likely didn't use coolant at the time of filming so that YOU and I could actually SEE the process of the material being removed... Just FYI.
I don't understand this comment section. At least half are shady foreign "companies" who think people learning how plastic molds are made are trying to commission one.
No explanation about how the copper part just appears, and no real explanation about the magic that goes on with with it in that liquid. That's what this video is supposed to be about!
Hi Karl: 1. Copper parts are made by CNC manufacturing. 2. The resin(raw material) will be melted in a barrel of the injection machine, and then injected into the mold and cooling & form, ejecting from the mold at last.
We do not remove material "particle by particle" and the machine is not called "a CNC" it's a machining centre or milling machine. The second machine is not called "an EDM" it's a spark eroder that performs EDM. Most tools do not have the cavity machined directly into the plate with the water holes, the cavity is mostly a seperate insert fitted into a hole in the plate.

Guys, stop with the hater comments, she's trying her best. Besides, her voice is as good as the man's. If you still hate it because it's not good enough for you, I wanna see you do better.
She never explained what CNC is Computer Numeric Control and she never explained EDM electromagnetic discharge machining. I feel like it’s relevant. I used to work in an injection molding factory and also have done my fair share of machining. There’s a lot more going on that just molds.
She sounds more like a news anchor describing scary stories to the public rather than talking about manufacturing. Both the original Canadian woman and the dubbed american male voice are much better.
I feel like I'm being scolded for not knowing about the process :(
what how? I know nothing about this and didn't feel that way

Oh yeah, best song ever hands down
i love how they are grinding that base with no coolant...hello thermal expansion, good bye close tolerances. oh, definitely an agie sinker edm :)
@minivet250 BTW EDM stands for Electrical discharge machining not Electrical discharge machine.

@minivet250 My Lathe is controled using CNC too so how do we tell which machine we're talking about if you're calling them all CNC?

THANK YOU ! I couldn't stand the voice, and the bad reading in this one.
hahaha yeah too much annunciation...
Really could have done without the music.

Well, almost by definition there are fewer dies than end products.

terrible video,
using spark eroding is just a way , between hundreds, to make a mold.
my family has been making molds for 50 years.
@maikeydii That because the company that makes the molds is probably highly incompetent and does such shoddy workmanship that no one uses them.
r u serious??
there are hundreds of companies which make molds, since simple ones to very (expensive) complex molds.
They completely glossed over ejection pins
@gerry626 that's because they don't drill pilot holes before boring out completely
Thank You for such a detailed explanation.
