We wore..and all these years later still have my snow shoes...and my Kelty backpacks! Not Alice packs..although some had bigger ones..they were still new. The crews are curious about what we carry....they already know we all carry...sleeping...shelter..fire...cloths..some food..various gadgets. So...it’s seems to come as a surprise that our packs were just the same...just extra axe...fancy radio. That’s it! Everything we need....is out here! I’ll show ya!

Anywho...he made his way up a steep draw...with a satchel charge tied to a shove...a rather large potatoe masher! Stick grenade. And with everybody watching...and providing cover...he crawled...his way up. And despite grenades thrown down towards his changing positions...he accomplished this. Silver Star. His Commander said after the due honor. “Damn it....you get a private to do that next time..I do not want to write the letter home for you! It was hot air...for Don knew. You can’t lead from behind. But he smiled anyway. Yes Sir! RIP
do eods ever work with combat controllers, i recently made it through a&s, going for cct, but i was a non-select. i’m going for eod now, but i’m coming back for cct and i wanted to know if i’d still be around the cct career field.
It would be a very rare occasion that you come across CCT dudes or even work with them as an EOD tech. Only scenarios I can really see are maybe a stateside training course you could maybe bump into them. Or maybe even deployed. But working side by side would be a rare occurrence.
Not everything cares about..rank and title. Bear..don’t care your a Lt. Probably taste the same as enlisted. So you understand...these woods are quite neutral....and although Airforce training area....it doesn’t really matter to the mountains. Lots to learn here.
Not trying to be a Debbie downer because I have the utmost respect for EOD BUT do your research. The AF sees EOD as a “mission support” function and is therefor apart of the “Mission Support Group” and not the “OG” like other career fields that begin with 1 in their AFSC. EOD is very high speed in the Navy and the Army. I wish we would recognize EOD as the same.
In the army? Yeah , no.. getting deployed more doesn't mean more high speed. Navy may be more high speed but many operators have said their focus on cool guy shit aka shooting, jumping and Small unit tactics, their EOD skills are hardly refreshed as much and so their main function suffers

It’s about -20 F this morning...the snow..squeaks..you can throw water..most of it will turn to steam...boiled water works better! COLD! Bone chilling cold. Insulation of body warmth..and fragile hands n toes! Got a dozen..millionaire dollars easy! Men..women..air crews. Summer training is tough...this is abit more! Damn there tough! Got to use all my training! All my wits..with support. But helicopters don’t fly in blizzards! And..we take that very seriously! Let’s move out! There on limited rations! So all the insulation in the world....your chilled to the bone. And I got lessons! There noses run. They want the training! Hey! I’m cold too. But it just don’t show quite as much..it’s my job...heck I’m out here every month. I know these woods! We will be fine! I’ll show ya!
Cold weather operations. Gasoline. It will freeze your flesh. And that Fith of everclear...don’t drink either one at -40. Blisters. However....HOWEVER a canteen of either...can be handy. I’ve seen canteens of cooking oil. Anywho. Warm weather the fumes are easily lit. Not so at 40 below. Still. Here in Minnesota for example..it’s not starting a fire. It’s maintained fire! Pine and softwoods are great! But much is hard wood...without an axe. It’s snapping branches.....and that’s a lot of effort...especially at 40 below. So...cocooning. Staying insulated during the cold of night. Saving your fire for the warmth of food..and daylight to collect more. Look at the deer...they huddle. Birds fluff as much as possible..cocooned in a quiet no wind area. They form a warmer bubble...then they too..wait for The warmth of day..usually back to single digits. Now collect. And any old ice fisherman tell ya. Stand on a piece of cardboard..or something...stay off the cold..sucks it thru your feet! Change socks! Keep a small fire going for hot beverages! Make yellow snow. Easy to become dehydrated..cause the water you drink is cold...but very important. Don’t go we’re the husky goes...don’t you eat that yellow snow! Frank Zappa.

You notice the seasons....week to week! And your getting paid...to do this wherever you go. Almost. Everybody loves to fish! Sometimes....trout...lots of them. Yummy! Apple trees in the middle of nowhere...apple sauce and baked apples. Lots of mule deer..squirrels..rabbits. And other very cool critters big n small. At night...Elk can be heard. Owls. Bobcats.
EOD has through the years been assigned under many different units. I have been part of MMS, EMS, and as an EOD Flight assigned to the Combat Support Group. I retired before we became part of Civil Engineers and then my career AFSC was 46470.

Air National guard has them I think the army guard has the. As well but in certain states
