Only thing I never got about the Lynch film was the stupid fucking sound guns. I can get past the techno fetishist Harkonnens, but those sound guns, yeah they're a cool idea but they weren't in the book and they actually detract from the whole "wierding way" thing, which was supposed to be about finely honed combat skills, not "YAAA CHAA" blasters

Lynch's reasoning behind changing the Weirding Way to the Weirding Modules, was that he didn't want "Kung fu on the sand" as he put it. I'd hate to see how they would've pulled off short range teleportation fighting with early 80's effects, It looked pretty stupid in the TV series.

well I think the "stupid fucking sound guns" aka = SFSG 10193 was the best add on in the movie, I think way better then Herbert martial arts, and God Hands blessed Westwood to use it all the Dune Games

Yeah as big of a fan of the books as I am, I have to agree here, there was no easy visual way to showcase the weirding way. It really helped to simplify the story and make it more compact, if the series was redone as an HBO style show then perhaps they could have the time and modern special FX to make it happen properly.
