      Cul de sac is a pretty common road feature in suburbs. They definitely need to work on that. The car should be able to turn 180 within the curbs though. That is how they are designed.

      Cool, and I have to thank you for your commentary! It really adds to your videos. It’s nice that you ad the commentary in post production so you have the time to decide what to highlight and comment on. Other RUclipsrs talk as they are driving, which is nice, but a lot of times they will reference something that happened but usually don’t go back and study it and make a come up with a well thought out response.

    Great to see V11 first time from a quality video producer!
    Agree with your observations, I think Tesla has been 'forced' by the traffic regulations / regulators to obey the stop signs, it's safety! That's foremost in Tesla's mission for their vehicles as we all know.
    Blue 'tenticle' improvements, lane keeping looks smother and more defined in its selection, braking rate seems gradual and smooth.
    HW3 looks excellent, we'll always be looking for improvements HW4 etc, look how mobile phones have evolved over time.
    I think FSD is improving / evolving steadily - it's a very complex task.
    Thanks for sharing, safe driving!

  • @Crunch_dGH
    @Crunch_dGH Год назад +4

    Very impressive! 1:00 Messaging up top is much safer than down below. 1:20 Posted speed response was magic. 2:02 Lane hunting was always scary dangerous. Earlier lane change signaling a great improvement. 3:44 Projecting the lane markings will be much welcomed, giving drivers a choice where to go, by manually signaling. (A simple “bailout” feature that could well be included in early Robotaxi versions.) 3:52 A full wheel stop for .1 second is physically just as much as a stop as for 2 seconds, even considering inertial loadings. The NHTSA just needs some basic lessons in physics to overcome their “notional” conclusions. Just looking for headlights at that intersection would’ve been 6x safer than human & allowed for a much smoother crossing. 5:12 Right turn lane bias. Wow! 6:25 Another opportunity for a built in TSD (Touch for U-Turn) bailout function? 8:32 I’ve never liked double line crossing, so always drive the “proper” virtual turn lane, in the absence of other traffic. Seems like AIs should be given that choice, which should become the norm, once they begin to predominate. 9:25 That skill would’ve taken me through the back country AK roads in snow flurries during the winter of ‘19 (but maybe not at 60MPH)! It’s superior vision surely would’ve kept me from slipping onto the soft shoulder during one sketchy bit!

    This video is amazing. I'm excited to get version 11. I really am a fan of FSC, but I have a few issues. My Model Y follows too close to the car in front of me. I have the follow distance set to the max of 7, but I don't think I'm ever more than 2.5 car lengths behind the car in front of me. I turn off FSD sometimes due to the close proximity of the car in front of me. The issue is the same in town and on the highway. Also, FSD completely ignores school speed zones. When the yellow lights are flashing, the speed limit is 25 mph, but if I don't hit the brakes, my car will continue to go the normal speed limit of 35-45 mph.

    • @shadowmite_0xC0FFEDAD
      @shadowmite_0xC0FFEDAD Год назад +1

      As far as I know, FSD doesn't respect any set follow distances yet, it just has the 3 modes, chill, average and assertive.

    • @eddiek204
      @eddiek204 Год назад

      On normal 2 lane roads, not highway, I totally agree with you. Follow distance on these roads is way too uncomfortable. The dial in follow distance does not seem to apply to non highway driving. It has been a BIG issue with me from the beginning. I hope in this update, we will beable to dial in the follow distance as we see fit. As I seem to be on the bottom of the FSD beta list, it will be awhile before I know. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for the post, I thought I was alone with this issue.

    Good video. Thanks. Easiest way to get ticketed in California is to roll through a stop sign (and of course speeding in front of a cop.) At least according to my group of family and friends. So I'm cool with full stops. Even when I was doing all the driving. It's not easy to do. Of course I've also heard of people who've just rear ended one of my group jumping out and saying, "I didn't think you were going to stop at that stop sign." Count the stop signs in a trip and add what, 5 seconds each? That extra always less than a minute is worth not getting a ticket.

    1:40 The speed limit signs are the number one thing I've wanted fixed for a while. So glad they've finally done something about them! And I strongly agree on the stop sign roll-through, I wish NHTSA didn't get so anal about that considering literally everyone does it here haha
    Also hoping that the improved no-mapdata performance means it won't continue trying to get into the right lane for an upcoming merge+left (which it does a *lot* at a road by me), but we'll see.

    One of the biggest things holding AI back seems to be decision-making where it keeps flipping between two decisions. In a way, it's similar to humans because it was literally given human-esque qualities and drives on roads with other humans. None of this would be a problem in a world with only robot cars.

    • @1flash3571
      @1flash3571 Год назад

      So True. We have mix of mostly human drivers is mostly responsible, but once in a while do some whacky stuff, just like FSD does, but we know why humans do it, but we don't know why the FSD does what it does sometimes. Sure, Tesla AI programmers will be able to see the results and figure out why it did the things it did when it went wacky at that point, but the unknown from the driver's perspective who is responsible is pretty scary at times.

    In Florida you are expected to make full stop like that. the old behaviour would have definitely resulted in a few tickets.
    But man I wish it was a setting so that people like you can set it to best fit typical behaviour in your area. Maybe the NHTSA will lighten up on this as it develops.

    • @1flash3571
      @1flash3571 Год назад

      Yeah, that would be nice, but let Tesla programmers fix the PROBLEMS first. That is more important. Yes, the drive would be more enjoyable if we have a settings like that, but if we set too many limitations, then the AI will be too restrictive. The best AI program is as simple as it can be and that is what you want in a programming codes. It is a nuisance on a drive, but at least it doesn't try to crash you into a ditch, or another object. Their primary concern is for you to not crash. That is their first concern. Also, AI NEEDS to learn it by itself using the AI code the programmers have written. I think they know what they are doing, so let them do the things that needs to be done FIRST.

    Visualization seems improved, and hopefully the smooth/stable driving holds up even in high traffic situations. Although, some negative points:
    I think the AI being more "careful" will not do it any favors, because even for me as a German, the stop at the stop signs is quite long, at least for a situation with little/no other traffic. When it's obvious nobody's coming, Humans just go. Something they teach you in driving school (at least here) is that being too overly cautious for no reason can actually create dangerous situations, because you are provoking other drivers into misinterpreting your intentions. So, it's really not good that an AI has to be so slow - I think that definitely has the potential to make Human drivers misjudge what an AI car will actually do!
    Also, I really don't like how slow and long the car takes when "creeping" forward - that's not "creeping", that's more like stopping in the middle of the damn road! Again, huge potential for Human drivers to misjudge how and when the car will actually commit to a decision (if someone was behind you, waiting).
    Some of the problems are unique to the US road system, so that's interesting to see as always: It's almost like 4-way stop sign intersections are a reaaallly dumb idea, and so absurdly inefficient and unnecessary, they are bound to frustrate Humans into breaking the rules.
    Whenever an AI has to follow rules nobody else follows, we are going to see a lot of friction between Human and AI drivers, potentially causing dangerous situations. No sure what the solution for that is.
    Thanks for making this video! Also, really cool to see the AI master rough road conditions so well! I liked how it kept on the right side of the road, like you have to do if someone else came up ahead.

    Speeding up before the sign is illegal. Speeding down after the sign is also illegal.
    What FSD should do is slowing down before the slower speed sign.

    I like how the turn signal comes on earlier. Much less confusing for other drivers when the car slows (from their perspective) for no apparent reason. It is particularly bad when there is no lane bias on the approach to the turn. Now, if it could only understand Texas driver mentality.😂

    Looking forward to its arrival. Very curious if it’s any better around roundabouts.

    4:50 where it can see the blue highlighted car at the end of the straight is amazing

    Wow... the rate of improvement is impressive. I wonder if it will accelerate from here, or slow down to a local maximum.

      id say its steady progress. each major update comes with new systems which have to be trained which dont always act properly or may affect other systems. when tesla fixes it they then move on to the next so you dont spend long with the 'perfected' system and back to the first version of the next upgrade with bugs.
      This version seems like they held it back for quite some time while they continues to update and refine it. This is a .3 release, not even the first one, its just it wasnt available to anyone previously. Tesla has not only gone to a single stack, but also replaced various neural nets with a two step process of two different NNs instead of just one which also gave improvements. Tesla is also continuing to work on their systems and improve the occupancy network but all of it takes time and the staff can only work on so many things at once.
      The next refined version may be the last one many people have for awhile, depending how the next versions go. im sure a lot of people will be happy to have this next version and will want to hang onto it for awhile.

    Wow, is it a joke ?! The FSD is anticipating speed limit that are higher than current ?! It's not expected, it's just for speed limit lower than current ... how can it be so stupid ... At least for France, speed limit must be applied just after speed limit sign, not before.
    Very nice video, thanks.

    Obviously the big tests will be how it handles crowded areas with lots of cars and pedestrians, but looks pretty promising so far.

    I know you're a bit annoyed by the stop behavior but I actually like it - I live in a totally different part of the country than you in a much less densely populated area, and around here a "california stop" is a great way to get a weirdly expensive ticket, or get t-boned by a lifted truck going 50 in a 35. It might be annoying for you but in terms of overall safety it's a good decision on the whole. It might be nice if they were smarter and had the car behave differently depending on location and even what type of intersection it's at, but barring that it's probably best that the default is over-cautious if we ever want this thing to be taken seriously.

    i spoke to a cop and technically you don't need to stop for any amount of time other than for an instant to get 0mph on your speedometer. as long as you actually stop to 0mph you're good

    The OTA Recall notes for this release do not mention any changes for making a full stop at stop signs.
