Always use your whole body even when executing seemingly a minor technique. Thus, using your whole body fulfills the highest law in physics, " energy cannot be created nor destroyed but energy can only be transformed or transferred." In Internal Martial Arts, you don't fight with brute force but with efficiency.

As a personal study, for health or self defense, it is perfectly fine to practice only one style throughout your life. As a passion or professional studio you can practice multiple styles, just as different musical genres can be studied on the piano. Finally, in the Chinese school, the essential concepts are common to many styles, so with the thorough practice of a single style you can understand many of them. 🙏🏽

It’s a huge mistake. It all comes from shaolin animal play which itself was taken from other sources. The real animal Kung fu isn’t an imitation of their movements at all. You aren’t a monkey, you don’t have their natures attributes. You have human attributes and the ancient fist is a human one. Finding your natural fist is the highest form of Kung fu. Feel free to do it but when at last you are ready you will see that the best you is based upon your original nature, natural . My apology to Paulie zinc and Hastings albo. But it was obvious that trickery and strange movements are not the way to quan fa.

The butterfly palm appears in many system. Wing Chun, Bagua, Hung Kuen/Hung Gar, NgoCho/Wuzu Quan,
      Bak Mei/PaiMei..
Shows how versatile and effective it is as a technique.
In Shotokan Karate, I think I first encounter it frequently (the "Mawashi Uké") in the Kata/form "NijuShiHo"/"NiSeishi", which of course is where the Okinawans took the name 24 from Chinese naming conventions. See it again later on Unsu (older name "Useishi" or 54... All descended from Chinese systems).
Other names that follow the pattern such as Suparempei (1808 or 108) 🤔
Thank you Sifu Basili, for allowing me to appreciate the Chinese styles. (I've a friend who plays Bagua and Silat at different times, giving me terribly Fun enjoyment) 💪
