I love mine. I mainly got it for camping but will occasionally make coffee at the house with it. Without the filter, it is a rich and thick coffee not as good for you but taste amazing. Actually funny story I made some for my grandma and I at her house and she thought it was funny how I was pretty interested in it because she said those use to be the standard coffee makers before the electric drip style ones. Though they have never gone away they definitely aren't talked about much anymore. They are like an old gem waiting to be re-discovered by a new generation.
@everyday-beans Yes you should its great! Well once I see it starting to percolate I'll let it go for 8 to 10 minutes then i do let it sit for another 5 minutes before I pour a cup.. So all in all, it takes about 15ish minutes before I get to enjoy, and I think that's part of the reason u don't see these get talked about much because of the time it takes. When you try without the paper filter, let me know what you think 🙂
I will give it a try for sure and report back later. I can see that, but the cups from the percolator are alot better than most brewing methods out there. More rewarding and for the most part all you have to do is put on a timer. It's the opposite of what I feel from the Siphon coffee brewer.
@everyday-beans I've never used a siphon coffee brewer before, but it looks like a very interesting way to make it. I might have to try one of those out
I tried it this morning without the filter! It actually worked out really well! Granted it was on 9 month old coffee. That is a discussion for another day! I didn't really notice much sediment, especially compared to French Press. The flavor's still came through without the paper filter. Thanks for the suggestion! To me, the siphon is more complicated than what you taste from it. Just my opinion.
Awesome! I’m glad you enjoyed it! I appreciate the feedback on the audio! Sometimes I’m too close to the work but will make it a point to listen to the finish video with my headphones all the time and not rely on the studio speakers!
The percolator runs the water up into the coffee grounds, and subsequently, the coffee-infused water goes back up the tube and cycles through the grounds over and over, it's an open system. A lot of the coffee snobs believe the water should only touch the coffee one time or it will become bitter. I can't see how that could possibly be true, but I think that's why some coffee hobbyists don't like the percolator.
You are 100 percent right. In logic, it should get bitter, but it really doesn’t. You bring up a good point. I believe the coffee can get bitter with French press if not all of the brew isn’t empty out, but part of the sludge is still transferred over to a cup. But with time, as I notice with cupping, the extraction process is more or so neutralized with time.
The percolator is shunned in the coffee world because it actively boils brewed coffee, which is something no other brewer does. However - I do use the percolator to make Hong Kong style tea, where reboiling the tea is a part of the recipe.
Yes. I was the same way for some time and I had to take the approach of is this coffee tasty with this method, regardless of the mechanism to get there. In your use of using the percolator for tea, do you think it works better for you because it being tea vs coffee?
@everyday-beans I think it might be interesting if you brewed some coffee you like, then take a half portion and boil it for a little while and see if you detect a difference
I'm sure it will be a difference. But I will try it for science and will look to making a video on it. Experiments, even if I don't get the outcome I'm looking for, is still helpful.
@craigmcconomy9346 guess what! I tried the experiment yesterday! it was quite interesting and a very fun result. i'm still thinking about it today! I love when you all comment and give me a challenge. I should have the video out at the end of the month! will start the editing tomorrow. I'll keep everyone posted.

Nice! Yeah, I think it’s pretty cool. I have to try it without the filter to see if I like it that way. How long do you usually steep for?

Great content 👍! The audio was only limited to the left channel though. Would love to follow more from you!

Cool video!
Thanks! I appreciate it!
what is your least favorite brewer or brewing methods? because percolator is considered one of the obsolete way to brew a coffee
My favorite is the Hario v60. The GOAT! What about yourself? The percolator has been a good change to my typical daily setup.
@@everyday-beans Moka Pot and Phin
Awesome. It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve used the moka pot. I need to get back on it.
