My camera was having strange concentric blue circles when it captured an image. I followed your video, reassembled it, and it works!! Thank you so much!!
I burned my P520's voltage regulator by accidentally plugging in 12V from a universal power adapter throught the USB port. I have a question: do the P and L Nikon Coolpix series have the same size outer metal ring on the lens assembly? I'm looking for lens adapters for my L330 (for macro, fish eye, filters, etc) and I'm only finding ones for the L100/800 and P500 series, and sometimes they're listed as compatible between each other.
thanks, I use my camera at sea and its always shacking, vibrating and slinging in the bag. After heavy seas it dropped. At opening the lens connector was off. This was an easy repair.
i have a Fujifilm x-s1 which has developed a fault think they call it pin cushion distortion ,at wide angle everything is ok as soon as you start to zoon the distortion starts progressively getting worse the more you zoom any ideas as to what i can do to fix it , ? and if i have to tear down i was going to remove ir filter (replace with same thickness clear glass ) and make camera a full spectrum camera ,what are your thoughts on that idea? thanks
HI, Great video!! I have a couple of Coolpix a L830 and L840, Both are very good condition yet both have stopped turning on! I have ckecked the obvious...batteries, battery holder contacts etc... but no luck. Do you have any idea what the common problem is with the not turning on issue? is there a component on the board that can be checked? / replaced it seems so many of these L / P model Nikon Coolpix have this issue... Any advice would be great. Thanks
I would suspect the zoom switch, it might be stuck, or may have corroded from moisture. A stuck zoom switch can sometimes be the cause of a lens error message.
I have a coolpix L840. Theres a copper tape that attaches to the back of the lens to plastic next to the motherboard. I'm assuming that's a tamper tape? And not actually anything functional. I ask because that ripped instantly. When I was taking apart and want to make sure that's not a cause to the lens not giving signal back to the screen, or if I just need to replace lense as it too a fall. (Reason I took it apart to begin with)
If it was never connected to anything electronic, it's probably shielding. A crack or tear in shielding doesn't generally cause any trouble. Almost all portable electronics have copper shielding tape some place or another, and lots of repairmen destroy it without significant consequence to daily use.
Hey! I have a coolpix 510, and for some reason the screen is completely black. it doesnt matter if i look through the eye piece or the lcd screen, its just black. I can still see the options and stuff around the border of the screen which tells me that its not bad, but i dont have any idea whats wrong. Could it be a stuck shutter? or possibly a bad image sensor?
I have a p520. It lights up the onoff green light, but doesnt turns on the camera. No charging indicator on. I formatted the card already. Bought a generic chinese charger. It loads the battery, but the same symptoms remain. The battery loses power more quickly than usual. Do u know what could be happenin? Thx!

Hey I had a lot of trouble getting the the lens back together with the worm gear can you make a video putting it back together again would be good thanks for all your help regards Ariah One
Thank you for this video. I was looking around to get my P600 lens mechanism repaired but couldn't find a video to open up to that depth. Though I haven't tried yet but I'm sure this will help me to tear it down and save some bucks.... cheers :)
Have you ever dealt with a Nikon P520 that will not power on? If so, what was the issue? I've tried three different freshly charged batteries. I've had two repair facilities say it's less expensive to buy a new camera. If I were to open up the camera myself is there anything simple that I could check?
mvsgeek The only thing that comes to mind is a broken battery door sensor. If that's broken, it will think the battery door is open, and refuse to turn on. That's the only thing I've seen cause a no-power symptom on these. If that's not the culprit, and the power button seems to be functioning correctly, it's probably either the socket where the battery connects, or a fault in the main board.
mvsgeek I don't have one of those available to me to look at right now, but they're recall a small button that is pressed in when the battery door is closed. It's possible that yours doesn't have one, but unlikely.
Same issue here on my P520. Won't turn on, presumably after a few bangs in the suitcase. So basically could be anything... I've checked and reseated the cables but didn't help.
@@ArtByStrongWolf I just tried powering on my P520 with the battery door open and surprisingly it worked fine. Shame, I have a second P520 which doesn't turn on and I was hoping for a simple fix. Excellent overview of disassembly, thanks.
Hi, my 520 does not turn on anymore. Sometimes just the green light but nothing more. I charged three batteries with an external charger, so the batteries are good and working but the Nikon won't turn on. Do you know how I can fix? Thank you
If you're batteries are old, they may not actually be taking a charge, regardless of what the charger indicates. If a new main battery doesn't fix it, it could be your internal clock battery. If this model has an internal clock battery, I would try replacing that, next. If it uses a capacitor, you're probably facing a logic board failure.
@@ArtByStrongWolf Hi, thanks for the reply. I checked the internal battery, I think it is ok: 2.99 volts. Do you think that uncoupling it for a few minutes, for a main board reset, can fix thw problem? I left this machine for a long time when I put it in the drawer it was ok, but now it doesn't turn on anymore.
@@mauri740 2.99 volts is slightly on the low side, rated voltage is usually the minimum operating voltage, and I'm guessing that's a 3v battery. Most devices have more tolerance than that, but there's no guarantee this does. Disconnecting the battery, then draining the flea power by holding the power button down for 30 seconds, then reconnecting the battery would be a good idea.
Is this a new problem, or has it done this since you bought the camera? If the problem is new, I would suspect the shutter switch is faulty, and can be replaced if you can find someone with the part for sale. If the problem has happened since you purchased the camera, you might not be letting it focus before pressing the shutter; if that's the case, try holding he shutter halfway for 15 seconds before you take the picture.

Unfortunately, you don't have a DSLR, so you would have to disassemble the camera in a similar procedure to the P520 shown in this video. It is definitely not a simple fix, and will require some time and attention to detail.
I figured it out. It is shown and explained pretty poorly in the demonstration, but what piece you need to lift is the GPS plate above the Flash. In order to life it, you will need to raise the flash, and then use a thin flathead screwdriver (or any tool small enough) to gently lift up where the slit is shown under the GPS plate. What is explained well, is that when you insert the tool under the GPS plate, twisting it is all you need. As you only need to raise the GPS plate just a little bit, and then you can feel the two halves of the camera seperate, to where you can move on to the inner workings of the camera. This explanation is ridiculously late, however I at least hope it clears up how that unclear step is taken.
Hi! Thanks for your video, i'll buy a nikon coolpix p520 from a friend at a very low prise because it has the button t/w from the lens averiated, there is something i can do to repair it? (sorry my english, i speak spanish jeje,)
zibodiz thanks for the answer! But after i bought it i reset the configuration and the button started to work fine! So i made a very very good buy ahahaj
Loki High There are a few things that can cause that. The first thing I'd check is just to verify that the display isn't turned off. Switch it to playback mode, and see if anything shows up. Next, try taking a picture; if it takes pictures and seems to function correctly aside from the screen, you probably have a broken LCD. Those can be easily replaced.
Playback mode it engaged by pressing the button marked with the blue 'play' triangle inside a box, on the back of the camera. It's just above and to the right of the 4-way control. Just to the left of the lighting bolt symbol. When you try to take a picture, does anything happen? Can you hear the shutter? When you turn it on, does the lens move?
It sounds to me like the mainboard has an issue. The top controls (zoom, shutter, etc) are connected to the mainboard through a different ribbon than the rear controls, so we know that it's not a cable issue. There's definitely more than just a bad LCD, because if that were the case, the zoom slider would work. I definitely think it's an issue with the mainboard. Unfortunately, I don't know where you'll find one of those for these cameras. You're probably best off finding a camera with a broken lens, and moving your lens into it. The lens is the part that is broken the most frequently, so it's definitely worth moving into another camera.
