- Welcome back to my allotment in the Cotswolds 🌳
Accompany me as I finish preparing my new asparagus bed (bye bye bindweed!) and get 5 Ginjlim asparagus' in the ground. I also show you what I've planted out this week and how it's getting on (I'm having a tough relationship with the Broccoli).
If you would like to see how my plot develops over the growing season then I'd be super appreciative if you could subscribe
Thank you ever so much for watching, see you soon! 👋🏻

Ps. Apologies I'm still working on the sound quality so it's a little patchy in parts... I've now got a small fluffy microphone, but editing this has made me realise I need to keep it in a consistent spot.

I collect the bindweed pieces and allow them become brittle dry in the greenhouse before adding to the compost bin . It's my way of getting revenge!
Love your "way of getting revenge"! Great idea - mine is currently regrowing from the compost bags... a trip to the tip is needed
I am from India.I am your new subscriber. I like your gardening work.
goodness, you're brave planting asparagus directly into that piece of ground. I have bindweed and when I set up my asparagus bed I used a double height pallet collar on top of a double sheet of weed membrane, which I then filled with manure and compost. That was 4 years ago and is the only raised bed where I did that and the only bed where the bindweed hasn't come back with a vengeance
🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 I will keep my fingers extra crossed and eyes peeled for any popping up again. I do have another small bed of asparagus where I’ve used the no dig cardboard and pallet collar method - there wasn’t a problem with bindweed there thankfully
flea beetle! *SUBBED* looking forward to the journey! They are chafer grubs (Chafer beetle) that live on decaying waste in the ground or in some cases the plant root.
Cheeky beetles and grubs, thank you for confirming!! I am now wishing I didn’t re-home the chafer grubs amongst where I planted the asparagus 😬 thank you for subscribing and taking the time to comment ☺️
@@doras.allotment the asparagus should be fine.
Dora! Your editing style is just so lovely. I'm watching this video in installments throughout the day but thank you for posting. You look and sound lovely as always! ♡
Thank you so much, such a kind comment 🥰🥰 have a great rest of your day!
Just watched this over lunch and feeling so chilled am struggling to get going again!
Looking forward to the asparagus 😊
Thank you Sarah, pleased to provide some lunch time zen ☺️ x
Ps if there was no issue with clubroot etc in the brassica cage I’d not worry about it just mulch it. Clumps of onions will,be fine 👍
I don’t think there was so maybe I’ll pop more in than originally planned after all 🥦🥬 good news about the onions. Happy gardening to you too!
Flea beetles are a real pain and they will be in the ground. It got so bad here I started planted my pak choi and spinach in hanging baskets. 😅😅 I think the hanging basket of Babylon is the new garden theme 🤦🏼♀️. It’s definitely not easy putting our babies outside for other things go to eat. Hopefully some will survive to larger plants 🤞. We have not had a huge issue (yet) with slugs as it’s been too dry but as soon as it rains they will be out in force. Luckily we don’t have pigeons. Keep at it Dora your doing great 👍, happy gardening 👩🌾 Ali 🌤️🥶🇨🇦
Oh no the little devils!! Do you have any tips (other than the hanging basket method for desperate measures)? Thank you Ali 😃
@@doras.allotment talc powder I have heard helps on the soil but I have also heard it’s banned in the UK so May have to research alternatives
