I was nervous about accidentally deploying the air bag. Weather stripping is easy to pull off and put back on. A pillar removal is a bit more difficult.
Good video, you should tell your friend to wire to the fuse box with a fuse tap. Cigarette socket can shake loose or there is always a possibility that someone could unknowingly unplug it. Sometimes the roof lining isn't rigid enough to keep the wire falling out so you can take a couple of small 3m cable management clips hook the wire and push under the lining. You don't have to stick them down, the extra bulk of the clips is sufficient to prevent the wire from slipping out. The other danger that should be mentioned is that the side pillar has an air bag and the wire may get caught in the bag when deployed, depends on how the bag moves. Couple of suggested ways.. Remove trim and install behind air bag or down the outside door weatherstripping.. Not sure about the top part of the pillar where you just pushed behind the trim, might have been worthwhile to pop trim out to see the location of the bag.
Never heard of cigarette socket shaking loose.......Do you have an old mobile? And why would someone unknowingly unplug your cigarette socket? You will notice if it was....as there is no connection to the camera. There is a lock mechanism on the cigarette socket that comes with the camera. It goes ALL the way in. It doesn't sit loose. Do you have any knowledge about what you post or did you just copy some text`? About the A-pilar. The a pillar has a 2 stage clip, you can pull it to loosen it enough to run wire, you need to pull harder to actually remove the a pillar cover. I used a 8in wire tie to run the wire behind the airbag. You don’t want to run the wire over it as it will interfere if the airbag ever deployed. Happy installing.
@@feistyfinn9365 Yes, it's the simplest solution. not too elegant, but I mean... its just a cable. Better to see some of it than fuck with a device that could save your life
Thanks for the vid. I just installed my dash cam after watching and it worked like charm. Weather stripping was a piece of cake to remove and re-install
As someone who knows next to nothing about cars... Would tugging the wire into the A-pillar interfere with the airbag inside of it? Seems a bit sketchy placing anything inside the same area as an airbag?
There are wires in the A pillar....so 1 more wire will not do anything. And the wire goes along the side of the pillar not in the middle. So far i have not heard of any aibag on the a pillar having problem with one more wire. If that was the case we would have heard about it. There are no official warnings about injuries or death placing a wire in the a pillar. If you don't feel it's a good idea.....don't. But don't scare people with your nightmares......
Very well explained and demonstrated. And excellent video angles, close-ups and editing too, which gives me all the info I need to know and the confidence to do it myself. Thank you.
I did the same on my Accord but I go left (driver side) instead of right side. I removed the A pillar cover entirely to make sure the cable does not block the airbag. I zip tied it to the electrical wires inside the A pillar. Finally, I plug it in to cigarette light socket in the center box / arm rest.
wow it is absolutely changed all my mind about how to install it. I thought we need to cut some wires going though rear mirror light , the video is absolutely great. Thank you for that
@@notmenotme614 easier said then done, when I do mine just going to keep wire to the very edge of the A pillar piece not pushing it down much at all so there is no interference of wire restricting the air bag from deploying in any accident therefore I won't need to remove the A pillar less work save time.
I have been researching dash cam installs. Did you cross over the airbag? Will it still deploy without the cable becoming a whip hazard and decapitating someone?
The whole point of concealing the wiring is to hardwire the camera. This can be easily done with a piggyback or add-a-fuse. The fuses will most likely be behind the dash end panel and easy to do. This will leave the power socket free as well.
Do you happen to have a picture or a brand and where to buy them silicone spray? I googled it and there is a lot of information but nothing about windshield/suction use. Thanks.
This was helpful thanks. If you use tools, it's good to mention the mfg. and model in case people want to pick one up. I'm sure car manufacturers are offering these as part of a package and having them built into the rearview mirror, but I hope they will put at least one power port into the mirror so that people can more easily hook up their own cams. Am I being too optimistic there? ;-)
Thanks for your comment. I have added pry tools you can buy in the description. As for manufacturer adding aux power port by the mirror, not going to happen anytime soon (never). If it serves a purpose for OEM add on, they might do it, but they are not going to spend money to support aftermarket stuff.
I have several videos install dual camera dashcam. Here is one to give you an idea. Install is later in the video. ruclips.net/video/Ertwi5Ci4v0/видео.html
If it's stuck at the edge, usually that's due to excessive windshield sealant adhesive that got onto the headliner. If there are no obvious clips holding it in, you can try slipping a plastic pry tool into any open area, and carefully work it sideways to release the glued edge. Don't stick you finger in and pull it down, that will crease the headliner. If this doesn't work, you can use wiring clips and put it at the very top edge of the windshield (tip: clip the wire in first, then stick it onto the windshield). Here are these clips amzn.to/3A6ZIlZ
This makes your car less safe. The airbags deploy from that exact point in the trim. You are essentially putting a seat-belt around it's deployment. If you want to do it right the wire has to go underneath the airbag. I hope you update/edit this video, this could hurt someone.
Everything was right except from the way you ran the wire down the "A PIllar". I can see in the video that you have a Side curtain A PIllar. So what will happen in the case when Airbag blows during an accident it will also blow up the wiring as it is obstructing the Airbag and the dashcam can hit someone's head and cause a serious injury or it can also prevent the airbag from opening fully. Instead you should open the A Pillar covering and run the wires along side the existing wires and not obstruct the Airbag
