Great video. Have not used layout yet, but the one thing i was looking for and you probably skipped over, is how to set your viewport to a scale. Im sure that has to be and option, so ill continue to look for it. Otherwise, very informative.
First of all, I love the tips. I just finished watching this the tips are very helpful, but what if all your 2-dimensional drawings such as floor plans and site plans and elevations, and sections were done outside of SketchUp such as AutoCAD, and then rendered in adobe illustrator but I want to take that into Sketchup layout, how would I go about to do this?
Hi. Can SketchUp quickly and easily calculate the square footage of different 2D floor plan layouts? Specifically, can it calculate per the ANSI single family requirement of measuring from the outside walls of the heated living spaces to get a GLA (gross living area) used by FNMA for mortgage purposes? This is the way the real estate appraisers are supposed to measure. This has been a requirement for FNMA for over a year now and there is a huge demand to have houses measured this way. It would be great if SketchUp has taken a look at ANSI for single family houses and has the functionality to make it relatively easy to have the GLA and other separate 2D areas calculated. If it can, and there is a video on that, I'd like to take a look. Thanks for the feedback!
While we don't have a video specifically covering this type of square footage measurement, SketchUp can measure whatever square footage you need - it's up to the user to take the measurements from the proper points (SketchUp as a software won't know ANSI or FNMA... but you as the user can follow the guidelines and use SketchUp to help). If you need more help figuring out how you might use SketchUp in the way you discussed, send us a message at team@sketchupschool.com and one of our instructors will be happy to give you some advice.
Tagging! In all the years I've been using Sketchup, I didn't know. Hmm, what else don't I know? Hey! Is there an autosave feature in Sketchup? Or am I ctrl-S'ing it after every line forever?
If you are interested in our full courses covering how to use SketchUp and LayOut for home design, check out our Video Course Library here: www.sketchupschool.com/video-course-library
Thanks a lot. But does the image in LayOut look low-quality (pixelated)? Especially slanting and curved lines and objects' edges. Despite the fact that in SketchUp everything looks clear. How can the picture quality be adjusted in LayOut?
The LayOut courses on our website are still compatible with the latest versions of SketchUp and LayOut. That being said, because the look of the user interface has changed in the recent updates to both applications, we are working on updating the courses to reflect the new look.
This video is good at showing how to avoid issues between sketchup and Layout, however it doesn't actually show "how to use Layout" as the title would suggest. I've never used Layout and still have no idea how to use it.
Sorry if this video didn't deliver what you were hoping for. Our intention was to show the higher level "How To" so that folks would understand the overarching idea of how the two applications work together. We often find that students that dive into learning the specifics of LayOut start with a misunderstanding that makes learning it more difficult. So this video is trying to help orient you heading into learning LayOut. Of course, learning all the details of learning LayOut is something that can't be covered in a single video, but we do have LayOut courses in our Video Course Library if you are interested: www.sketchupschool.com/video-course-library
I'm really confused. Is it possible to create text and keep it static as in an autocad program? My text moves all over the place??? Thanks a bunch! Jeff
Yes - if you try to add text in SketchUp it will move around. But if you add it in LayOut it will stay put. If you continue to have an issue, please send a message to team@sketchupschool.com and an instructor will try to help.
I just erased a whole group of one of my projects. I need to know if I can undo it and have it back the way it was ? Control z isn’t doing anything I’m on MacBook
If you need to show the length of the curve, you can right-click on the curve in SketchUp and pick the option for Entity Info. There you will be able to see the length of the curve. In LayOut, you would then use the Label or Text tool to add a callout for that dimension.
How can I export layouts to CAD with preserving layers and layout design and details? Because I work with sketchUp and Layout but some contractors demand AutoCAD files.
It's hard to know for sure. I suggest you copy the error message you are getting and forward to the SketchUp team for help: www.sketchup.com/contact-us
That is the process of creating a "Viewport" of the SketchUp model on a page in a LayOut document. If you need more help figuring out how this process all works, please send any follow-up questions to team@sketchupschool.com.

You're totally right that line weight is the most confusing aspect for the self-taught learner (me). Thank you for explaining it clearly.

The most cool stuff I learned from this video is how to bind 2d and 3d objects together. Thank you very much!

Hi I have recently got SketchUp on my iPad Pro. I was wondering where layout is or is it not on this version.
Thanks

LayOut is only available with SketchUp Pro, the desktop application version of SketchUp.
Thanks bro

LayOut allows you to adjust settings so that the linework is crisp and the image quality is as nice as you need it to look.
@@SketchUpSchool thanks. I found that I can use vector image rendering setting to make the image crisp

can you draw construction detail draws stright into layout?
Yes, you can draw directly in LayOut. However, you open up more functionality if you draw in SketchUp and then bring it into LayOut for annotation.

Yes: In LayOut you can use the Label tool to place a label on a face in a model viewport, and set it to display the face area.
Can you please tell me why in sketchup 2021 pro appear a window show there is an error and close my project especially when i work in interior design
