Glad to see your new channel, there is a need out there for Porsche info and education. I own a 997.2 but this information has a lot of commonality with everything up to 991.
Another way you can test the cooler is to apply low pressure with air to one circuit while the unit is submerged and watch for air bubbles coming from the other circuit. The heads can also have cracks under the lifter girdle, but I don't feel this is the case due to no intermix in the heads. Best with it and looks like a nice early 996.
I also bought a large ultra sonic cleaner from Amazon big enough for the heads and I cleaned all of my engine parts in that machine. made a huge difference.
Hopefully, the crazy prices for broken Porsche’s will come down. Makes it very difficult for anyone with limited means, or common sense, to get into a project car for repair.
Which tool kit is the larger one you’re talking about? I only know the 8 piece one off of eBay for like $150 that does 996 and 997. Am I missing something?
Found my new hero! Love your channel. Getting ready to pull my engine but know 100% bigger problem. Likely dchunk and possibly need new engine. Oh well, its a sports car, no rush. Figure Ill take my time and learn, even if it takes me a year to get it all done.
Well I didn’t exactly yell about keeping the color original due to its rareness…..more like I begged you to keep it as close to factory original as possible. It WILL mean more 💵💵💵 to the right collector. Of course I’m the idiot who sold a low mile one owner 1982 SC to a guy in Germany (back when I lived about an hour from where you bought this car 2013) for used Honda Accord money🙄
@@NathansPorscheWorkshop Watching your videos over the years has encouraged me to do more and more of my own repairs and maintenance. I called 3 Ford dealers yesterday to get an estimate to change the Mercon LV in my C-Max hybrid transaxle. One dealer said it’s lifetime fluid, can’t change it. One dealer said they would do a “transmission flush” for $179. The 3rd dealer never called me back. Going to buy the Mercon tomorrow and do it myself 👍

Really enjoyed the content. Looking forward to seeing it run again 👍👍

Head bolts do brake in early 996’s. You should consider ARP head studs.
I’m looking at the same issue with my 1997 996. Workshop also pretty sure it’s the heat exchanger or AOS. They are changing both + all coolant hoses.
This is such good information. Thank you!

Thanks man…
My heads are off.
IMHO pressure check those heads. Mine just passed😎.
I had a 2002 C4, sold it last year, for cheap. Big mistake, oh well, now I work on 944‘s, my first love.
Love the Porsche content! Looking forward to when you post some in depth V8 Cayenne 955/957 content!
Good sleuthing. Static o rings should compress 20-30%. Being flush with the top, something os off.
Perfect vacuum is only -14.7 psi. Oil pressure is maybe 70 psi. Testing that oil cooler with vacuum is less that optimal
First reason e for engine failue its becasue its a porscha
Check the other side of the heads between the valves and the spark plug holes. The other issue is cracked cylinder liners.
The heads are at the machine shop now, updates coming soon

How did your car turn out? You can buy a borescope for cheap on Amazon and take a look in your cyls before taking it apart. Good luck!
Nasty corrosion on the external case. Remember when manufacturers painted engines?
You will have to get a bigger shop or add an addition to the shop you have.
Oil cooler failure will pump oil into the cooling system not coolant into the pan.
What are your thoughts on the 1st gen cayenne turbos?
I hear they are. terrible, but they are cheap right now so maybe worth a chance lol

How much for the BMW?
$20k
Oh fun and games. 😁👍👍👍👍👍
I said it could be the oil cooler. Do I get a prize. Lol 😆
I say still replace the AOS
So we’re not gonna talk about how the last video ended? I guess all was fine.
That was like 3 videos ago, and i did say the engine was fine
@@NathansPorscheWorkshop I was wondering how it went from engine drop to torn down on the bench. Thought I was current. My bad!
Do you even know what you are doing.
