I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Coachman van conversions. Purchased a Nova C about 8 months ago and it seems to be built pretty well. It comes with a 315 amp AGM battery and 210 watts of solar power that will power the 12 volt fridge/freezer for a while. The Onan 2800i sips gas from the tank and is very quite when needed. The Truma a/c is whisper quite. So far so good!
When and if you by another rv my advise is to take a day/overnight and do a thorough PDI. Best thing to do is an overnight stay at the Dealership hook upped , fill the water tank and run everything.
Thank you for your honesty and transparency. I owned a Thor class A RV and wow the quality was terrible. We had something break every trip. Every single trip! Worse part was major water leaks. We had 4 major leaks that flooded the inside of the RV. Yep, the plumbing was so bad it kept leaking everywhere. Now this was not a cheap RV, not even close. So I just can't see myself buying another Thor product. Our Winnebago Fuse was AWESOME though. It had some issues, but very few. The EKKO is very similar to the Fuse and I think would be something I would look at also.Plus bonus for us, the Winnebago factory is 5 hours away and you can take your RV directly to the MFG for service!
Oh wow! So sorry! This is just so unacceptable. Glad to hear you had a great experience with the Winnebago Fuse. That's encouraging. You are lucky the factory is so close!
We bought a Thor Tranquility 19P just about 2 years ago. The price point and Mercedes platform is what attracted us. We knew about the quality issues but the price difference at that time between a Revel and Thor was around 90K. The materials and build quality are poor, but some of the features (Norcold fridge, Truma heater/hot water, Onan generator) so far work great. We fix whatever breaks ourselves which so far has been more of a nuisance than catastrophe. Replaced the AGM batteries with lithium. Overall, so far have been happy with it especially the Mercedes part. BTW, this is a great video and you two are really good on camera. Glad I stumbled upon your channel.

I've got the Thor Rize 18M with the rear bath. I was able to get a 2023 chassis with a great layout (for a shorter solo person). I absolutely love this little front wheel drive van, and as Bob pointed out I got some really great quality systems like the Truma heat and Onan generator and a fridge that I've never had shut down thanks to the solar panel, all for a crazy good price compared to other brands. The interior build is plastic and particle board and glued window frames that fall off and I don't care because LaMesa stuck it all back together and I knew what I was buying. Buy a Thor for the systems and the chassis, learn the toothpick and glue trick for putting screws back into particle board and enjoy having all that extra money for gas!
Just to toss our opinion out there we have a 22 Storryteller beast mode and the wife and I love it. I am 6’3” and have no head clearance issues, except coming close to the fire alarm/carbon monoxide detector other than that got plenty of room. The wife and I take the dogs out and we have two huskies so they’re not small and yet we find it to be enough room Like we both said it just all depends on what your priorities are in and how you’re going to use the van love watching your videos. Keep them coming.
We had a Promaster converted professionally for us three years ago. $92,000 with everything we wanted including enough lithium to run a/c overnight. We’ve done 30,000 miles on Mexicos roughest roads out of 70,000 miles covered and it’s solid. Do not regret any part of living full time in our Promaster 3500.
We have the 2021 Thor Tellaro 20AT w/ skybunk and lithium. Went with Thor because they had the best price per feature, also most affordable rig with lithium. We looked into Winnebago Solis PX, Roadtrek Slumber, Hymer Aktiv, even Winnebago Ekko all with poptop. Thor checked all the boxes, only concern was quality. Thor has 2 years warranty and we used it as much as we can. We've owned ours for 2 years now and looking back we made the right decision. We love ours and don't see anything out there beating it in terms of value, the only thing out there I would consider is Roadtrek Pivot Slumber, but MSRP is at $189K. Yikes, that's Storyteller/modded Revel price point.

Thank you so much for sharing all. Though I missed the opportunity to ask a question before this video, and similar to what another subscriber asked regarding if and what you would buy, my question is, “when you do purchase another class B, would you consider a reputable small company that produces quality, thoughtful and durable products?). I have yet to by my first class B (so a nubee by all means), I continue to research and refine what I want and I really like everything I am seeing in HumbleRoad. Thank you for all.
Yes...for sure we would consider a reputable small company that produces quality, thoughtful and durable products! We love the class b and would love something that is of great quality.
I really enjoy your channel. Always love authenticity and transparency and I love AZ. I lived in Tucson for 6 years and my plan is to acquire a life lease lot at the SKP park in Benson as a west coast home base. Hope Plan is to retire in 3 years at 62 and am in planning stages. Part of this is figuring out what van is best for me. I want to explore this great country. So many things to consider. You guys have helped me with my van consideration and kept me excited about getting out there. 👍
Lucky my Thor Tellaro did not have any issues for 2 years of ownership. I was planning a build that would take for ever. Just like a house, I can change the floor, the sink, gas to electric, etc 😂
Just randomly caught your video. I've been a class b advocate for many years. My 4th rig now is a 2023 Winnebago Travato 59G that I got for a smoken deal recently. I purposely did NOT buy the lithium 59GL model for the following reasons that may apply to your rig. Living in northern CA we do not use the AC or microwave too much so the few times we need 110 Volts we use the new 2800i induction generator sparingly. The two AGM batteries and two solar panels are enough to meet most of our needs. Knowing that lead acid batteries will not last too long you can replace the two underneath your coach with LiFePO4 batteries which have plummeted in price. You do not need to get Battle Borns (sorry BB company). The power queen or Ampere time brands are just a fraction of the BB's. So long story short you can make your own rig into a smaller lithium model by yourself. You can get larger batteries and a larger inverter to make a larger system if your power needs are greater. BTW I have those batteries in a home solar system that is just awesome when the power goes out.
@@MoeMoe-nu7vt It was a perfect storm as the dealer was drowning in hundreds of unsold coaches, high-interest rates, and concern about recession and the economy. My final offer of 115K was accepted. This is the new 2023 with the 9-speed transmission, electric steering, and lots of improvements.

Bob's a good cook and I would not turn down his food, but if you want to see an incredible Gourmet Chef who cooks out of his van, then go look at Naick and Kim. They are vanlifers traveling in their van, they already did Canada and they did half of the United States and now they're in Mexico. Naick is a Gourmet Chef and the food he makes is amazing.
Concerning size, Class B with Ebike rack would go beyond 23ft, which is Winnebago EKKO length. Folding Ebikes and more can go in wonderful EKKO gear garage. Also, some Class B Sprinter chassis are 24ft. I think Winnebago hit the sweet spot for those who want Campervan versatility but with a little more room and gear garage.

Awesome! We do stay at campsites for more than one day...if we need to go somewhere we just pack up and go and then come back to the site. I would say we fill up with water every 3-4 days depending on how much we use.
Hi Bob and Hillary🤗 Alfred and I would like to know where you got your storage box for the back of the van? Also, what do you put in it? Thanks for the awesome question and answer video. 👍😊😁❤️
You guys are spot on about Thor having the best price points, it was a tough investment to swallow when we looked to upgrade but we are glad we did! Love the new stove, have you also looked at cooking over fire too?
Even at home I will use wood in my propane BBQ. Just put a few pieces under the grate, get it going with the burners, shut off and wait for the magic. Lots of Hickory, Oak, maple, shag bark on my property.
We are looking at a van builder for a conversion. But I am definitely not ruling out a used rv from a major manufacturer. The situation being is that a private builder can cost you even more money than a new van on a lot.
Bought o 05 Pleasure way 60k like new 2years later lithium upgrade bike rack easy maintenance Ford e350 sumo and bilstein upgrades . Beast cruises now. Next upgrade bilstein shocks leaf springs in rear! Enjoy
My dream was the sto as well, but the Mercedes were having so many electronic blips and not lots of places work on them. Also would love to build our own, but no physical ability to do so.
Thanks so much for answering my question! I thought the animations were custom. I am on the hunt for a plug in type map animator for Final Cut I will let you know if I find anything if you are interested. As far a Thor quality goes we have the 2023 Sequence 20L and have had a few issues so far but they will be fixed quickly but overall any RV will have issues like Bob said you are driving in an earthquake. We had a Little Guy towable before the Thor and the quality is great but we still had plenty of issues. Cheers.
Have your problems been with the Ram Promaster or the Thor part of it? Has the Ram been reliable? I’m actually interested in another Manufacturer but it’s on the Ram Promaster as well and just wondered your experience with the mechanical part?
Love the Promaster! The engine is amazing! So far we have only had issues with the sliding glass window and the alternator. Both are not ram promaster issues.
Ok I’m binging you two! Single mom with two kids. Like the b van since it will be my main vehicle. I’m going to the Embassy factory next week. Known for quality.
Do your some what exposed lithium batteries have some heat source. Lithium batteries will not take a charge at low temps. Your set up seems that it would not be ideal for cold weather travel?
Thanks for sharing that information!!! I have one question about the pop-up tent. Does it keep the temperature in the van when using it, especially in the winter and summer?
Great discussion points. For the money vs a self build of the same size I’m surprised the amount of issues you’re experiencing. It doesn’t fill me with confidence of such an investment. As this can effect to some degree resale or future sales . Thor needs to get on top of these issues.
Thor quality is lacking but also 10’s of thousands cheaper as well from what I can see. Seriously considering buying a Seq 20L. Considering dealing with the little issues to save 30-50 K. Thoughts?
I bought a brand new sticks and bricks house back in 1996. There were over 20 item issues on the walkthrough list. Why would it be different or better with a motorhome or camper.
We're currently working with a local van builder in Denver to build out our van. If you were to buy again, would you consider working with a van builder rather than an RV manufacturer?
Leisure travel van and pleasure way travel vans both are high quality built Thor is built cheap and has a ton of problems I have heard a bunch of people complaining about Thor
Three years ago, we bought a new Sprinter 170 cargo van and converted it to a camper ourselves. Total cost approx. $85K. Other than one time when a wire loosened on our diesel heater (ten minute fix), it has been flawless with plenty of solar and battery power. Totally doable (if you have the time), thanks to "youtube university" for teaching us how it's done. I can't say I'd trust Thor nor the lousy reputation for quality of most RV manufacturers. DIY, all the way. (Btw, we used to own a lovely 40' class A. This is better!)
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing your experience. We want to build one out. The only issue is time…but it’s definitely going to happen. I research it all the time. Hearing this makes me even more ready to do it. -Bob

You guys are spot on about Thor having the best price points, it was a tough investment to swallow when we looked to upgrade but we are glad we did! Love the new stove, have you also looked at cooking over fire too?
We agree! We totally love cooking over a fire when we can!
That’s very true…
Bought o
05 Pleasure way 60k like new 2years later lithium upgrade bike rack easy maintenance Ford e350 sumo and bilstein upgrades . Beast cruises now. Next upgrade bilstein shocks leaf springs in rear! Enjoy
My dream was the sto as well, but the Mercedes were having so many electronic blips and not lots of places work on them. Also would love to build our own, but no physical ability to do so.
Oh cool! Sadly, they have had a lot of electronic blips recently.
@Vancaskeys and it cost double-ish not counting higher fuel, higher, oil changes, etc. The Ford would be a great one I think. But again $$$
Did you get the sticky paper changed in your rv. Ours has done exactly the same underneath and inside cabinets.
We just dropped it off at La Mesa to get fixed yesterday. Fingers crossed they do a good job!
What about the Promaster chasis? Mercedes discontinued the 4x4 with selectible low range. AWD only available.
True-I’d have to get a used one.
Great content guys…. You guys are winning🤩
Thank you!
Cheers.
Would love to hear what you find. We use both Adobe Premiere and Descript for our stuff and need to add some animations soon as well.
Yes! Let us know what you find. We would love to make our own map animations. Thanks for sharing your experience! Love hearing from others!
Nice, loved the Q&A
Thanks for enjoying!
This was really enjoyable and informative. 👍
Thank you!
@@Vancaskeys Thank you :)
Hmmm that’s a good question. I’m not sure.
Thanks for sharing that information!!! I have one question about the pop-up tent. Does it keep the temperature in the van when using it, especially in the winter and summer?
You are welcome! Not very well... It was like a tent.
Love your outdoor rug/matt what kind is it?
Thank you! It's linked in our Amazon Store! It an Outdoor Rug for Patio- Recycled Plastic Mat
Where do you store your BBQ???
Under our bed.
How often should you clean the solar panel?
Great discussion points. For the money vs a self build of the same size I’m surprised the amount of issues you’re experiencing. It doesn’t fill me with confidence of such an investment. As this can effect to some degree resale or future sales . Thor needs to get on top of these issues.
Thanks! Agree with you.
Rumor on the street is that RVs made during the pandemic era have quality issues.
We would have to agree with this. Sad but seems true.
@@Vancaskeys We have a Travato made in 2019 and the only thing we've had to fix is a LP regulator. We love our Travato.
Thor quality is lacking but also 10’s of thousands cheaper as well from what I can see. Seriously considering buying a Seq 20L. Considering dealing with the little issues to save 30-50 K. Thoughts?
I’d buy your cookbook.
Awesome! Thanks!
I bought a brand new sticks and bricks house back in 1996. There were over 20 item issues on the walkthrough list. Why would it be different or better with a motorhome or camper.
Which grill and where did you buy it ? TIA ...
I love your videos.
Thanks Danni!
We're currently working with a local van builder in Denver to build out our van. If you were to buy again, would you consider working with a van builder rather than an RV manufacturer?
A Van builder for sure!
Have you guys considered the AirStream Rangeline?
Yes…we love the Rangeline. It’s a bit more expensive though.
-Bob
@@Vancaskeys I've been watching your videos off/on after building out my own Sprinter 144 4x4 modeled after a Storyteller Beast mode. My total cost was near what your Thor came out. We have 420w solar, 10kw battery, sink, foldable shower and a large sofa/bed that is 45" wide. We use our van for weekend trips and so far my wife really enjoy it. Definitely do looking into build one out, at first it feels like OMG, but when you get into it, then you can choose each component and will know how to fix each item. The most time was spent thinking about the design and waiting for getting all the parts needed.
A new sprinter 170 4x4 including sales tax $100k plus today, you must have bought in a different time
What's the brand name of that new grill?
Nextgrill 2 burner!
You will in a few weeks… should have done a build.
Bad battery placement design. It is predatory in nature in terms of location. It is placed there to be replaced when the warranty expires.
How much is a new transmission?
You have had major issues and you would buy another?
Where is your Heinz Ketchup to go on your breakfast sausage?
😢we are on our 3rd class B, they were Sprinter , no more Sprinters, we now have Winnebago Travato 2018 K and had no real issues 46,000 miles, we love it and travel all over the country
How tall are you both? I'm 6'2 would I be able to stand up completely?
We are both 6 feet tall...Yes, you could stand up completely!
Thank you
PW OnTour handles 6'5" inside.
@@davidthomson5183 This is awesome!
You probably cannot charge 75% of your "huge" 800A batteries everyday with only a single 200W PV panel. I have 3x200W panels and a 200A LiFePO4 battery and other stuff all from Victron Energy, and only this makes your statement true.
Sausage has so much grease…
You're not wrong 😂
Too much joking around get to the point.
Thor sucks!
you said about 3 hours ac was this with your lithium bats? would recommend getting 400ah of lithium also do you know if you can get an onan generator and lithium bats ?
