  • "For the first time in more than 19 years, the Grateful Dead performed this terrific Death Don't Have No Mercy featuring a cool vocal arrangement, and one of Jerry's finest later-era guitar solos. It would only stick around for three more performances before being shelved for good, but it was an incredible run while it lasted." - David Lemieux

The slim chance you read this Dave..
Your work on Long Strange Trip was unbelievable.. your choices for that documentary are spot on. I truly hope there's a continuation of some sort. I always encourage new Heads to deep dive into that film and it's soundtrack. You my sir are a f'en legend..

Weir is a genius… his accents provide support and counterpoint at the same time. Jerry and the rest were all top musicians when the jug band/Warlocks started out, and Weir somehow invented his own unique rhythm style to keep up - that’s when they elevated beyond what everyone else was doing. Jerry summed it perfectly in an interview you can hear in the Weir documentary “The Other One”. Of course Weir openly describes how he was inspired by jazz pianists, and thank God for that. Good Ole Grateful Dead!!

A recent "Greatest Guitar Players" article omitted Jerry Garcia. And also left out Roy Buchanan and basically tried to omit great guitar players in favor of the ones they liked. Let's try to be more objective, folks. This is Jerry playing with all his power and emotion, and he can hardly be equaled.

    • @Kmc9

It's OK, we know he's the greatest. It still baffles me that there are people that consider this type of music to be "noise". It honestly makes me feel bad for them. Imagine not being able to be taken on a journey by someone playing with raw emotion and intuition. Or the people that say you gotta be high on something to get it. What a sad life that must be.
