    Thank you, again, Sandi -- I absolutely love learning from you. I adore the concept of being rewarded for looking.....I could go on a lengthy diatribe about how the attention economy has eroded our ability to look deeply at things (and people) but I'll spare you that. 😂. I think that art should be gazed at....spent time with.....and it should make us pause and consider. Anyway...I think your plugs are pure magic -- they're the first thing i look for lol -- and the fact that the toast spoke to you, spoke to *me* because I GET that! I just can't express how much I appreciate these videos...they're my weekly dose of inspiration and cheerleading all rolled into one. 🦄

      Sandi dear, I love this video and hearing your thoughts while you follow your deeply intuitive process. It's a glorious thing to witness. This particular comment moved me. "I think art should be gazed at...spent time with...and it should make us pause and consider." How very beautiful that is. I enjoy so much reading through everyone's thoughts after the videos. I do love the wall electrical plug and all the little details you added. I didn’t like that the cats in the windows disappeared, then the windows, then a house and the pond came back, 😅 almost like watching a movie. Thank you for the lesson in persistence. Xoxo

    Love your paintings. I especially love the cats and I too love plugs. The green was the book. What inspired you too do still life's of your home and all the wonky cute objects. That is so genius. You have really inspired me to try loose painting. I have done a few faces. I still love my detailed work, but I can see how the loose painting can stretch me in different ways as an artist. I am such a perfectionist and that can really make me overthink a painting to death. I can already tell by just doing three loose paintings when I start to over think. The one will really stand out. Thank you for making me smile. I hope your health is being healed. I just saw that medical device in one of your videos. My Mom has dementia and has ended up in a nursing home with physical problems too. You are definitely a God sent to me. I am stressed out and depressed over family health issues. Going crazy!!!! But you make my load just alittle bit lighter. Just wanted you to know that. Thanks for all you do. 🙂🙂❤❤🙏🙏🙏

    This is one of my favorite vlogs you have published, I come back to it every so often. And I know this was published ages ago but I'm wondering if you could mention in one of your newer vlogs the artist(s) who are painting while thinking of "rewarding the looking" of the viewer. This way of thinking while I'm painting has really impacted my ability to have fun and move past decision fatigue.
    It has also influenced how I am a viewer when I visit an art museum (my sis and I just finished up a week in the Seattle area where there are some wonderful museums and small collector galleries where we both practiced moving through the exhibitions slowly!)
    Love all the sharing you give to all of us in the painting community! Thank you!

      @@sandihester you would get a bazillion more sketches in than I do! I'm still pretty "precious" and "fussy". That's why I'm so in love with your videos and process! May I ask a question? If you don't want to answer I totally understand. When did you switch to going so loose? Was there something that prompted you? Really cool,and kind of brave...is that the right word? Sounds kind of ignorant on my part probably. I'm just so inspired and still hesitant.

    • @sandihester
      @sandihester  3 года назад +1

      @@MSKCCooke no, not ignorant at all - you asked that well! It was pretty early on. I really quickly that I didn’t like how I felt (all tense) after painting and I also realized the art I was drawn to most was loose and then quickly realized that it wasn’t easy to do. I mean, I still have to put “rules” in place for myself sometimes- like, don’t step over the line, use my non dominant hand, hold the brush at the end , etc Does that answer your question?

    this was super fun Sandi ! love love love following your process and hearing you say what you really like/love about a painting without self-consciousness. almost as if it's something that happens outside of you. i wish i knew how to say this better. like the painting takes on a life of it's own. and you're there helping it become what it wants to become. and because it has it's own life it's almost like you don't take credit for it-you just respect and honor this creation. Anyway. The two kitties --i kept seeing that little window square as a complete painting. sort of a semi abstract of two creatures in the woods. i assume ( maybe you said this ) you were using the golden fluid mat paints ? and that it was on paper not canvas? thanks again !!

      Just, what a great comment to get - thank you so much!! I’m so glad you enjoy hearing me process it. I think one of the things your seeing me do is that I’m at a point with my painting that o know when somethings working and when it’s not - I’m pretty good now at being able to see the issue - I may not always not how to fix it but I do know at least how to “erase” it 😂. I’m having so much fun with this new style of painting!

    I love your artwork. I enjoy and learn from you explanation of the process your going to take, maybe 🤔. We all worry about our “bad’ artwork. Made me think about Walt Stanchfield, “We all have 10,000 bad drawings in us. The sooner we get them out the better.” And you are showing us how the bad and make them good! You are so awesome, young lady. I was worried I wouldn’t live long enough to get the 10, 000 bad drawings out of me to get to the good ones.....that worry is gone. The plug was the first thing I noticed! It's the type of detail that is noticeable when it's there, because it's usually noticaeble for its absense (like people going to the toilet in books, they never do). I like your idea of the reward of looking. I think my art dares people to not look away (especially the rawer stuff), although to be honest, with the whole scrolling culture of taking in art online, I'm the worst for not actually staying with stuff for longer than a few seconds. I might actually set aside some time each week, like 15 minutes with a cup of tea, to really look at only a few paintings (or maybe even do that with my own... wow there's a slightly uncomfortable thought).
    I'm so glad I came here, I legit just spent 20 minutes looking for you (I follow you on IG because someone recommended you when I asked for art vloggers to follow, I think, but then I forgot your name, and this morning when I wanted to start watching one of your vlogs I had no idea where to look, so I looked through my 'people I follow' on IG, and COULDN'T FIND YOU, I legit had to go through the list 3 times BUT I AM HERE NOWWW!!!)

    I LOVE your plugs. I’m allowing YT’s algorithm to sort the order of your videos and have been looking for them in each painting, so am unsure when I first noticed one. I’ve found myself sad when they don’t appear (I know it’s a painting of birds- but still!!!). I love how an object will look so simple, almost like a blob of colour and then you go closer and see all the colour magic happening in your work. I totally get you with that plug 🔌 btw. I had the same thing with the last miniature photo scene I made. I made a plug for it and was desperate to keep it in the final pictures. It's the last post on my Instagram (fionasimagination) if you want to see it. That's my favourite kind of art. The art where you keep finding more and more secrets everytime you look. No matter how long you spend looking at it there is always something more to see. Even as a child I was known for spotting the hidden things. The child that finds the toad living in a fairy hole in an old mossy root...

    I love it! You are inspiring me to put more into my compositions. I've gotten too fixated on being zoomed in but I am excited about zooming out again. I've been trying to guess at the size of your paper pad.....I've been trying to find oil/acrylic paper that is 18x24 or more.

    Hi Sandi, I have a question about process.. when you do something like a table top, do you put in the items on it first and then paint the table top? or do you paint the whole table top and paint items over the top of it.. Sorry stupid question but Im learning top paint and im curious about how others do stuff.

    • @sandihester
      @sandihester  2 года назад

      I never paint the whole surface (whether it’s a wall or floor or table, etc. It would make the other things look pasted on

    • @sandihester
      @sandihester  3 года назад +1

      I usually mention in my videos what I'm using because I do work in MANY different mediums but in this one for some reason I don't think I mentioned the paints - I also almost ALWASY list in the description a link to the products I use - just so you know in past videos and future videos that that's the case. These are Golden Fluid Matte acrylics - I typically hate acrylic paint but I found these recently and I LOVE them. I also really really like Flashe paint which is a vinyl paint and is gorgeously matte

    Ayy nooo! You poured the dirty water into the sink! The toxins go to the same source from which we drink and the treatment plants are not able to eliminate them. They also reach our ecosystem. I think that with the information that there is we should be more responsible, Sandy, I am not saying this with bad intention

I also rinse tools and clean brushes in a small bowl and pour it into the bottle. @@sandihester I wash brushes in a bottle with turpentine and then immerse them in another with hot soapy water and wash them well. These cans I pour into a large empty paint can and let it dry in the open sun. I let it rest to reuse the paint jar, I strain it into the big one and I repaint with what I filter. The big can only leaves a bit of dry debris on the bottom that I'll take to a paint disposal center when it's full. I do not know if I explained well.
