Those coffee shop sketches are just timeless! Those could just as easily be in 19th c Paris. We always love the generous, juicy paint in Sandi's work! Everything about this sketchbook reminds us how worthwhile it is to make art, to observe and record the passing spectacle of life!

I need a sketchbook. I'm practicing on cheap drawing paper for school with all kinds of drawing and painting supplies. This is especially bad for my practices with watercolor of course.
I tend to use my good paper, cardboards and canvasses only for others and the best only for art pieces I plan to sell. It's so much more fun to use paint on expensive materials of good and very good quality. But thanks to you and another artist I now realize that I have to be worth using at least the pretty good stuff also for myself. So thank you for this insight. 🙏🏻
It's extremely hot 🔥 here too. My relatively fluid acrylics dry in almost no time. 😓 So I'm sorting here with one ice pack wrapped around my neck and one icepack on my head. 🤕
We have good 40° C during the day, 34-38° C during the night. Insomnia guaranteed. 🥵

I’m so happy your elbow is on the mend, here I was thinking I wouldn’t see your beautiful face this week..yay there you are. Thank you for sharing your ginormous sketchbook. Very cool ! Last week we were like ridiculously hot too , today it’s 80’s doable but going up again this coming week. It is the south after all 🥵. Have a wonderful weekend to you and Grady.

🎉That is one my favorite sketchbooks of yours. For me, those sketches from the field where you were camped out in the back of your truck above the cows are just so perfect. I love the subtle and drastic lighting changes through the days. Just extraordinary.

Love the sketches and the memories attached. I have a few similar memories attached to sketches like when I got the call that my new home purchase was finally being finalised I was on holiday sketching. I wrote a little reminder about it in my sketch book.

What a treat to see a new video from you. Glad that your elbow is better. WOW you sure have a lot of paintings in that sketchbook. I had that same brand of sketchbook but had not used it. After watching some of your videos I decided to start it. I've only gotten 2 pages done so far. I'm just not a good drawer & I am afraid of messing it up. Does that sound familiar. LOL

Love seeing your paintings…the ones with your sis really are special and I’m sure, precious to you. I think you mentioned that you get comments where people ask you “why you do so much work in sketchbooks?” I’m left wondering why viewers would ask, what seems to me to be a fairly obvious question and you’ve explained your love of sketchbook work many times. But I don’t think any artist really has to justify the “why, how, what, when, where,” of our art (unless you’re taking instructional classes or something like that.) I think it’s pretty evident that art, artists and the creative journey are all very individual and we make certain choices because it feels good to us, we get joy from it or we can grow and learn best that way and it’s just the way we like to do things. 😀❤️

You inspire me so much I decided to do 100 or at least 30 days of sketching. I’m full time artist I’ve worked with many media, at the moment mainly textile. I can draw and paint as part of my mixed media work but that’s different from sketching life. Coffee shops, landscapes etc. it’s never been my thing. Well I’m determined now I’m on day 4, I sketched in a coffee shop, it’s such a mess 😂😂😂 I have hope though. Love your work.
I think you’ll find it really grows your skills quickly! Have fun and way to go for getting out there!

Hello again, it's a really great video, you inspire a lot, you are my angel of inspiration, besides all this, as you did before, I wonder if it will come in the videos where you paint a lot of pictures, I miss them so much

If you had just a color mixing class based on those beautiful color mixed pages from your sketch book, that would be so fun and interesting...Your sketchbook is priceless,,,I wish I could do figures loose like you. I put in too many details. Thank you so much for sharing and I usually watch your videos a few times as I always miss something because my eyes are busy looking looking at what you are showing us...have a great day and looking forward to the bird class! Oh do you keep air conditioning on in your studio all day when its a cooker out there? I live in the hot tropics and have to run air throughout the day to keep my studio from melting down....

I don’t take acrylics to a coffee shop. Only watercolors and gouache or I use markers and color pencils

Hi Sandy, I really enjoy watching you and your videos. I'm a total beginner at painting but I have a question, could you explain gouache and how you use it? I've been trying watercolor and find that is what I like. But I'd like to add gouache but not sure how to use it. Thank you, Dear.
It’s just like watercolor but more opaque. You’d use it just like watercolor

When it's too hot or to cold to draw outside, I sometimes go to a public library to draw. Talking for a long time is frowned upon and the other visitors are immersed in their books and don't move a lot: it gives me enough time to sketch them and the distractive chit chat about my drawing with curious people is minimal. Is that an option for you?

Talking of memories, i remember you talking about artists you admire. This is a bit of a big ask, but I have looked at your vid titles and cant see a ref there. You talked of a uk artist who lives maybe by thye sea and she paints draws very vibrant busy pieces, plants feature. I keep thinking of her work and want to see it again. I think itmaybe a book you have? Have i givenm you enough clues? If you can work out who thisd is, please let me know. Sorry for the crass request. But it shows i do follow and listen and remeber!!! Lots of coffee shops around America allow dogs - not all of them but lots do
