  • Hey guys, it looks like for us figure skaters we're going to be off the ice for quite a while :(. But here is what I'm doing to keep up with my training, hopefully, you can take some exercises from this video to stay fit for when we go back! We're all in the together guys, please stay safe and healthy ❤️
    If you guys don't have a spin board I highly recommend this one: www.kimspinerg...

    Oh my gosh! I'm so glad I found you, what the heck?!
    Over quarantine boredom, I found myself watching Figure Skating, AND OH MY GOSH, I LOVE IT!
    My favorite skaters that I've seen so far are: Yuzuru Hanyu, Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir #Canadianprideuwu, and Kurt Browning.
    Anyways, I just had some questions!
    I have nEVER BEEN GOOD AT SKATING, EVER. I try to go to the rink and not use the pushy things 5 year olds use, but I always do cause my ankles hurt, or I can't get enough speed, or I don't know how to stop, or just skate like... At all D;
    Since I've taken a sudden interest during covid, I can't go try and learn how to skate!
    Would roller skating be a good option? And if so, roller skates or roller blades? None of the roads in my area are smooth, but I could find areas if it would benefit me when arenas open up again.
    What exercises could I learn as a beginner off ice?
    I love your channel! Thanks!
    🥝🍋🥭🍑🌿🌵🌾
    Edit: I'm going in to grade 9, September 2020. Is it worth it to start skating?

      you can start skating at any age!! as a beginner if you really want to pursue ice skating start with going forward, backward, swizzles (forward and backward), snowplow stop. how do you keep from getting dizzy??
    edit: and since I've taken an interest in figure skating over COVID, should I be doing exercises and stretches to make my body adjusted to the lifestyle of it?
    When this is over or when my local rink opens back up, I plan on just getting a year-round pass and maybe going a few times a week since I get virtually no exercise anyway. I feel like it could be a really nice hobby while giving me a challenge and keeping me healthy. one day I hope to do show skating because I know it is unrealistic to be going for major competitions since I'm already 13.
    Do you have any good workouts and/or stretches for non-skaters looking to get into it? Im already trying to become more flexible but it's a long process.
    PS: you are amazing!! i cant imagine being able to do more than one rotation off the ice let alone on.

      Hi! Also you’re never too old to start figure skating :) Everyone starts at a young age because its much easier but personally i dont think age matters i started skating when i was twelve and you definitely need to be very flexible for this sport and workout a lot and while doing this sport you definitely need to think of what you need to do and how your body will react and sure broken ankles can occur but its normal :) And it is also normal to train 8 hours in the weekends and around 2-3 hours on weekdays after school figure skating is a really fun sport and you should do it! My friend is 18 and is currently doing skating hope this helps :$

    • @avast47
      @avast47 2 года назад +1

      ok i’m around the same age and level as rachel and i think i can help a little. first, a good priority would be signing up for lessons and getting a coach. until then, here’s how to skate forward with more power: it’s called stroking. you put your arms out like you’re a middle school boy T-posing in 2017 and pick a foot to push onto. some things to remember would be
      1. stand up straight and don’t look at your feet
      2. power comes from your push. with your back foot, you wanna turn it out and push off of the ball if your foot (the part closest to the toepick that isn’t the actual toepick)
      3. bend your knees. power in your push also comes from the bend and rise action of your knees
      idk if that makes any sense or helps at all but i’ll link a good video that demonstrates it better than i can explain: ruclips.net/video/cbjAnsv59Mk/видео.html
      hope this helps!

    Hey there, just a quick question: everyone I ever see online does their off ice in shoes, but I've always trained barefoot, but I wonder if it's better to train in shoes with the jumps and all bc they give u stability? For ballet (no pointe) and martial arts I do, barefoot training is meant to be better but idk if it's the same for figure skating, maybe I would progress faster if I do train in shoes? Idk any experiences with that comparison anyone? ☺️

    • @RachelLiza
      @RachelLiza  3 года назад +1

      personally i train in shoes. since you are in skates they give you a lot of ankle stability and for warming up to get on the ice i recommend shoes. but if you wanted to strengthen your ankles and your balance being barefoot helps.

      i think the best way to get faster is just to practice! iv’ve been skating for a few years now and when i started i was very slow and very wobbly. as i practice the tricks and the movements, i feel more sure in my motion and my balance, and i skate a lot faster and smoother than i used to! if you go to the rink often and work on balance (and trust in yourself), speed will develop too.
