I remember performing this song at our Urban League summer camp back in 1986 or 87 when I was like 4 or 5 years old! I have not EVER forgotten it. I love this song, and now that I'm a teacher, I plan to teach it to my students and have them perform it at our black history program. Thanks for posting this.

In 1986 I was a SENIOR in college at Wilberforce University [in Ohio] and I can remember when this first came out. The purpose behind this song was to push for a bill to make Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday a National Holiday.
Apparently the efforts worked because NOW his birthday IS a National Holiday but back in 1986 it was NOT a National Holiday. I now have a much better appreciation for back then. Hearing this song today in 2008 [22 years later] makes tears well up in my eyes
