The Dji mini pro 3 is a massive hit. I had a mini 2 but soon sold it to get the mini 3. Best decision I’ve made, and that includes being a Mavic 3 owner too. Two perfect drones. Keep the videos coming, all worth the watch as usual. 👍

I purchased this (partly off of YOUR wind test, that ranted and raved about how great it was, that I coincidently now can’t find 😂 ) Despite your opinion flop on the wind testing, I still love it, there are times I bust out my Air2s a 2 cover the windy days, but luckily, like you mentioned, it’s so small it fits anywhere, including the same case as the air 2s .

For the convenience of how light and quiet the Mini 3 is, I can accept that it's going to be restricted, wind-wise. Having said that, I've been surprised at just how much of a breeze it will handle. It's my first drone and after watching a few of your videos the whole flying experience has become quite intuitive. It's so easy to use. I haven't used Sport mode yet, as I like the reassurance of the sensors. Maybe I'll look at heavier drones in the future, but for now I'm more than happy with the Mini 3 Pro.

This has been my fear as it will be my first drone. As a professional photographer I wanted to step up into drone photography and videography as well.
How long did you play around with it before taking it out properly? Its a dream and nightmare for me at the same time, as everyone I know that has friends that use drones has told me I will crash it.

    • @rickparkinmoto
      @rickparkinmoto Год назад +8

@@UHDGamers-re2xj I'm a semi-pro (hobbyist who's sold a fair few pieces), and I too wanted to expand into drone photography. Your photographic skills will cover all the camera settings on the drone, so your main focus of learning will be piloting. I went out into a field with the minimum amount of obstacles and spent time getting used to the controls. I kept out of sport mode as that is too fast for learning and disables all the obstacle avoidance sensors. Hoover up all the advice from DM Productions, and also a chap called Mattheww Brennan (yes, with 2 Ws). The method I use to avoid obstacles is have a good look round where I am going to take off (for pylons, trees, etc), then when the drone is up and in a position to start a manoeuvre, I do a quick 360 view to make sure I am above any obstacles that could get in the way. Just start off being ultra-cautious, and it'll all make sense over time. Fingers crossed I haven''t crashed yet, but I did take out the 2 year DJI Care Refresh, as I figure there's a reasonable chance it will happen at some point. I quickly learned to hand launch and land too. RUclips is definitely your friend when starting up, and has given me a lot of confidence. The camera quality on this drone is astonishing for its size. Good luck!

Great beginner drone that takes amazing videos. I do need to invest in some ND filters for the bright days.

I’m still enjoying my Mini 3 Pro immensely, long after 6 months, because I knew exactly what the capabilities and limitations were before I purchased it.
I had been debating for months whether to go with it or the Mavic.
Obviously, the Mavic is larger, handles wind better, has a much further range, incredible object sensors and camera but, it’s also at least 3 times as expensive and requires registration.
The Mavic (or its newer version) will be my next purchase, 4 or 5 years down the road.
Right now, I’m very happy with my Mini 3 Pro.
Yes, buying the Plus battery would help add mass to it but it would also push the weight into the 250g registration requirement zone.
If I’m going to do that, I would have just gone with the Mavic to begin with.
If you decide to buy a Boss 305 instead of a Countach, don’t be disappointed because it’s not as sleek or fast 6 months later.

I use it for the most part to up the production value of my fishing videos and it does that job for me. I travel abroad a fair amount and have had not trouble in Europe or the US flying the drone. The best thing about the Mini 3 Pro from my usage is that it's" NON-Threatening" to the public. Unless you are flying in a packed baseball stadium where anything is a nuisance other than the game, this drone is the top tool to fly anywhere. You can get any shot or video without seeing peoples heads turned looking at the drone during post processing.
If you are out to get the best footage of the environment where everything is at it's natural state, then this is the drone for 90+ percent of hobbyist IMO. I have flown this numerous times at beaches, and the majority of people view it as a toy. They do not care. It's nearly impossible to do that with any other drone on the market as of this video.

Yup, I couldn't agree more. I have had the same experience with the Mini 2 and now, even more so with the Mini 3 Pro. Between the lack of noise (or at least a pitch that doesn't seem as offensive to some) and the size ( ahh, isn't it cute) factor it is the best drone on the market to use "around" people. Great to just have with you while traveling/sightseeing and launch it and not worry about disturbing anybody.

Life is full of compromises. It’s up to the individual to decide which end of the compromise they are comfortable with. The features(not gimmicks)that DJI has packed into the Mini 3 Pro makes it a no brainer for anyone contemplating getting a drone in this day and age - it’s a quality product in spite it’s sub-250gm weight. Treat it as you would any precision appliance. It’s not a toy👍👍
Just a final word about its stability in light windy conditions - try taking one of those wide panoramas where it takes 21 shots in sequence(7 x3) and it’ll look like you had it on a tripod!

for me the mini 3 pro is absolutely amazing and i use it for professional purposes regarding landscape ecology inspecting certain landscape elements which are not easily accessible or just gaining an overlook over bigger areas. it‘s kind of my flexible eye in the landscape which has to cover traits like sharp enough photos, being able to observing environmental objects in detail and using those photos for expertises as well, being light weighted because of me being always on my feet with it. it has to be reliable at the same time and especially without attracting attention because of the many distrustful and therefore sometimes angry land owners i have to deal with. and all those traits it covers perfectly for me. just buy all batteries you can get for it if you do time-consuming stuff like me, but that technical need lies in the nature of the whole situation and the device. in my profession as a landscape ecologist there‘s simply no better drone for my special needs😊.

This review came right on time. Tomorrow is Black Friday and I am out to buy a Mini 3. I am tempted to get a Mavic 3 Classic, but the limitations on where I can fly and the requirements for a licence in Ireland just convinced me to get the Mini 3 Pro. I don't fly that much and I don't need a professional drone to make money, so I can just go another day when the weather is better. Thanks for the advice and review, Darren!

The Mini 3 is a great little drone but is restricted by two things, the wind and loss of signal strength resulting in limited range. Stay away from trees or anything that can reduce the signal strength, Avoid the wind, and fly on days where there is no wind, it does alright up to 10 mph (6.6 km). I am new using the Freewell anamorphic lens with the Mini 3 and am very pleased with my videos. My most used drone is my Mavic 3 with the RC Pro controller. My Avata is sitting in my den collecting dust except for certain kinds of shooting.

Wind resistance would always be the major shortcoming of light >250g drones as light drones tend to get easily jostled by the wind. However, as a newbie on drones, I am thoroughly impressed by the stealth and performance of the Mini 3 Pro for its' price that it outweighs the weakness on windy conditions. Definitely a HIT for me! I've not exactly tried to fly in high winds, but I did take it over the ocean one where the wind was whipping. I flew it out 2500 feet to a lighthouse and had zero issues. I turned it to sport mode and went about 25 feet up and it came home like a champ. Landing was an adventure because I was standing 1000 feet out on a sandbar and the tide was coming in! The wind was blowing it all over as I was trying to land (couldn't hand grab, it wouldn't stay still). I eventually had to abort landing on my landing pad and it landed on some damp sand, but nothing happened. Overall, this things amazing!

The only problem is that my home area here in Israel is right at the coastline, and its generally quite windy here. Most of the times, I see the "Not Good To Fly" verdict at the tope of the UAV Forecast app. So, I'll probably get the Mavic 3 Classic as soon as it becomes available here. I'm scheduled to visit Iceland later this winter, and was quite concerned about how the M3P will handle the conditions there. Now, the Classic will probably accompany me on that trip.

You said it Darren. Because of the wind is the reason I don't buy Mini drones? No matter how great they are, I just don't buy them.
Just think about it? Almost everyday we have wind. It could be lite wind, but still most of the time it's a little bit too windy for those Mini drones.
I really don't mind registering a drone or two. When I buy drones I want to make sure it's a great drone for just about anything. Like the MA2 & A2S? Those are the only two drones I own. Because they're compatible mostly.
I've thought about getting the Autel lite+, but I don't have the money for all that.
Thanks again for sharing my friend. I thought it was a great video. 👍👍👍

Thank you for the review, its made me decide to buy the mini 3 pro. I live in Bath, UK. I’m sure you know its a truly beautiful Georgian city so will be using it for that mainly and as its my first drone sounds like the perfect place to start, I’m a professional photographer so this is the next logical leap for me, especially as in lightroom I can up the resolution if I ever wanted to sell the images. Thank you again.

I came here for the drone info and left with one of your LUT packs. 😂 I'm just getting more serious about video-making and have purchased a few LUT packs, including your DJI Mini 3 Pro LUTs just now (I don't have the drone yet, but those particular LUTs appealed to me). Yours are by far the best LUTs I've purchased to date. By that I mean that they're the most cinematic-looking and effective (not overdone) for what I do. Thank you!

Good vid. My understanding is the mini 3 can handle wind up to 22 mph. manufacturers spec.
so if you want to fly in stronger wind then either buy a stronger drone or its at your own risk.
It’s a sub 250g what do people expect.

Nice review. I'm learning that drones are all about trade offs. You can have amazing video, long fly times and all the gizmos but the drone is larger, OR you can have the size/portability/useability and price etc. Yes you might have missed a few opportunities to fly the Mini 3 in high winds, but also think of all the places you have flown it where larger drones would not have been legal or possible.
I see the Mini 3 as being almost in between, the rule breaker in a way.

I absolutely love the mini 3 but it's the geo lock that gets me so I'm thinking of buying a autel nano plus as well so I can fly in certain situations. I fly near a disused army Baracks and got locked out while In the air this meaning you can't do nothing apart from land and just hope your not over water that's why the autel don't have geo fencing. But I wouldn't get rid of the mini 3 it's still an amazing drone. Come on dji sort the geo fencing out. 😁👍👌🇬🇧

I ride a recumbent tricycle and I've never had luck with active track on any DJI drone. Even the Mini 3 pro with improved active track simply won't see the trike. My Skydio has no issues with tracking. Otherwise, I love this drone. It only means I need 2 drones where I was hoping the Mini 3 pro would do it all.

    Hello Darren
The Mini3 pro is a great sub250gr drone and that brings limitations but also advantages. If you need a drone to take in your travels the Mini3 Pro is the drone to choose.
In EASA countries the Mavic3 Classic C1 is the drone to go. It can fly in subcategory A1 like the Mini3 pro with only the A1-A3 CofC.
The best combo if you have the money is to have both with the DJI RC, the Mavic3 to fly within EASA and the Mini3 to travel with.
I have the Mini3 Pro and take it to travel, next year I may consider buying the Mavic3 Classic C1.

Very interesting to hear you talk about the wind tolerance with this drone. I don't think I have heard anybody else saying this. It's important because I had the original DJI Mini and it had ZERO wind tolerance. So much so that I ended up sending it back. I have steered away from the "Mini" series since then. But with the change in CAA regulations I am again wondering about the Mini 3 Pro as a viable drone. Well done for talking about this.

I agree with you about the drone being poor in windy conditions. It really struggles and crawls at a ridiculously slow speed. That and the constant strong wind warnings popping up all the time. It's not a pleasant experience. I now look for conditions below 15mph wind speeds and that suits me fine. Oh, and the occasional poor signal strength leading to a complete loss of connection. I seem to get that every time I fly these days. Thankfully the RTH feature works well, touch wood!

Regarding wind, I use Drone Aware and know way ahead if I will be able to fly somewhere or not, and if not, I choose a different location for that day. Haven't really had any situation where I got to a location and could not fly because of the wind.

I think most people have the same issue with weight and rules. I just brought a Mavic 2 thinking I could do the A2 Cofc so I could fly most places! turns out if I did the A2 Cofc it would only be valid until Jan 2023 so pointless. I now fly under Article 16 for the Mavic and use the Mini 2 for everything else. The rules are pi@@ing a lot of people off.

All the plus points far outweigh the issue of flying in strong winds, unless your location happens to be windy most of the time.
I often take it with me when I go out, just in case I spot a potential film opportunity, simply because the bag is so small to carry.
I'm not quite so keen to fly my bigger louder M2Z when there are people nearby.

I have owned all of the DJI Minis and the new Mini 3 Pro is without a doubt the best of the three. Sure the price jumped more than I expected but I have no regrets purchasing it. I have had great videos in 20 mph winds, haven't tried it in higher winds though. Interesting fact is that I never crashed the first two Minis, but I have crashed the Mini 3 Pro twice already. Just had to replace the props on one of those. Why....the Mini 3 Pro has made me more confident flying it so I have taken more chances. Thanks for posting.
