We loved touring Dana’s apartment, seeing retro patterns and textures in every angle, her hilarious personality and camera-ready dog, Billie. Her place caught our eye when she submitted photos for the 2023 Small/Cool contest, specifically referring to her space as “raccoon chic.” Not as far gone as you’d imagine, but there’s some truth to it; Dana and her fiancé, Lucas, have managed to furnish their home almost entirely with second-hand vintage furniture. They’ve mindfully pulled from several different eras and styles so the result is balanced and not theatrical. Dana has a great eye for unique pieces, and is constantly mixing function with humor. And to organize the “chaos,” she’s favored a triad color scheme of Pink, Orange and Green. This allows their home to be colorful but not overwhelming. This girl is so cool! I love her attitude about things, especially her dog friend. Also, her creativity and taste for color, and her ability to pull everything together really makes the whole space look like a happy place to go to. To use one word to describe her home: warm.

I love this girl so much. What she said in the beginning of the video about buying vintage and not soulless brand new stuff, is exactly how I feel. If I like it and it has soul (or it’s borderline creepy and possibly haunted), it goes in my cozy, eclectic house. She’s a real person and cool as hell. And so talented at making her place absolutely gorgeous. I want her for my friend. Rock on, my much younger soul sister:).
It is very easy on the eyes without exuding that professional "follow the rules" look. Everything is fun, useful or lived in. It really speaks to the term, "Home decor," with the emphasis on HOME.
My daughter grew up hanging out with grandma and her 70 year old friends. This is totally her style too. Love it

Love the colors, the wallpaper samples gallery wall, the "outdoor" table, the hall wallpaper!! A large apartment and even though there's a lot of stuff, it doesn't feel crowded.

Racoon style - I love it. I also like to look through trash! Once my cousin was walking in New York and walked past a garbage can. He walked back and took a second look. It was a new Bally men's bag! Someone must have stolen it off someone and trashed it after looking for money or credit cards. Several months later, he ran into a friend who told him that his Bally bag was stolen. My cousin said, "Then this must be yours." But it wasn't because it had a different lock.

We did this over 40 years ago when we bought our first home, a little cottage filled with garage sale finds in Niagara on the Lake, Ontario Canada. Great job Dana, you have the perfect balance of your space feeling airy and not overstuffed, it’s nicely curated. I love the wallpaper gallery art and your dining set the most. I absolutely LOVE how she tired to incorporate her furry family member into the homelife by giving him boxes of dirt to dig in. So sweet! And it's amazing how she can joke about her taste in the things she owns even when they're just for aesthetics.

Remember to cleanse your space with white sage to keep it free from negative energy when purchasing from Facebook Marketplace and Thrift Stores. You both have some great pieces, and the apartment looks very nice.
I like her. My dogter gets to be in/ on any surface in my house. She can sleep, relax, lie down on any surface she’d like….just like me! My dogter is my family. Lol
Well, I'm kind of a mid-century eclectic gal myself, so I really like how you have your apartment set up. You may be used to the wide-open spaces in Colorado, but I can assure you that your apartment is a hidden gem for NYC. I mean, a patio balcony! Most NYC residents would give their eye teeth for that! Hope you guys are able to live there for a while before they try to hike up the rent. Like the wallpaper wall too!

What a perfect way to encapsulate an idea. i feel like i want to go into every re-design of my home with this idea in mind bc it's so easy to fall into what's easy and order new items rather than hunting for quality, unique, vintage items that will bring character and personality into a space. love it.
This has got to be one of the most beautiful apartments I've ever seen, not just on this channel, just period. And good on you for sticking to your guns with the dog on the sofa! When I was growing up, my dad flat out refused to let the dogs up on the sofa. After they passed away, we adopted a rescue dog, who gave us no choice- if we were on the sofa, HE was on the sofa, because HE wanted his cuddle time and that was that! We bought a load of throws and blankets to put on the sofa for him, and it was like opening up a whole new decor world. Suddenly we could update the room by doing nothing more than changing the throw out.
I am for sure going to do the wallpaper samples, that's a brilliant idea and it looks fantastic- this apartment is furnished so beautifully. Amazing job!

Thrift in Colorado is the BEST!!! I used to live in Fort Collins, a college town. I used to resell stuff I’d find at a dumpster on Craigslist. And, of course, my apartments were always decorated with 2nd hand stuff.
Eventually my taste matured and most of my stuff I currently own were purchased new.

Absolutely love her place. Cozy, warm and still chic. The double windows in the main bedroom and the terrace are just big plusses for city living
1) I would like my raccoon chic to come with a few raccoons.
2) I would accept my things having a 20-30% chance of being haunted.
3) I also hate feeling or seeing the factory on things.

I love this apt. My nephew lives in Brooklyn. I am in a 1940 historical registered apt and nails and molly bolts not allowed so other than my foyer the walls are bare. I have a few things hung in my kitchen. I am buying my first home this summer and it will have a small non descript fender in patio no grass the other owner took out in a concrete patio no trees to hang a bird house so I may find a decent faux tree. There is enough dirt thank God to plant a couple of my Mom's favorite plants and have a small veggie garden. It's a 2 bedroom condo totally renovated huge living room with French doors to the outside. I cannot wait to have a craft room. My kitchen is so very tiny I have lots and pans in my fridge. This husband and wife team made a beautiful apartment I have much inspiration to do diff things in my present apt and my future home. I'm overwhelmed living here my living room looks like an unorganized storage unit. My goal today is to work very hard on organizing and dusting and vacuuming hoping by 7 pm to see the carpet today. The clutter is overwhelming. My 2 storage units one provided in the basement and one down the street are stuffed all necessities and my Mom passed away 2 years ago and left a lot to me. Upon getting my larger space it will all be in use. The closets here are very very tiny. No vanity in the bathroom I made storage using small plastic sterilite crates I bought from the Princeton University student bookstore and I zip ties then together and gave mini nautical baskets that slide nicely into each crate.
This Brooklyn apt must have a high price tag. I am surprised on this show it doesn't state the estimated cost of these apts for the area. My apt here in Westover Village which is the first small town created in Arlington, VA is $1447 plus $40 for storage and it's 610 SQ FT I'm only one of 2 units on the 3rd floor. The 3rd floor is the highest and no elevator and I have a disabled leg. No laundry facilities in my building. In my complex are very cool townhouses and I really wanted one of those but none avail when I moved in. Those kitchens are larger. I cannot wait to get my patio to have coffee on. It never dawned on me either until I saw this woman's desk I wondered where has all my families rotory phones gone. Upon push phones getting big, did we throw them out? I cannot believe my Mom kept our fisher price toys from California in the 60s but no old phones. We had a sage green one and a tan one such as this and an old black one.
Recently my aunt in Calif sent me a beautiful crochet blanket my grandmother made and I haven't a place to use it yet. I want to put it in my bed if I can ever sleep in it. Or maybe nice on the back of the couch as it has Easter/spring colors.
This is one of the nicest apartments I think I have ever seen in Brooklyn. I cannot forward it to my nephew but I screen swiped the title for him to watch. Both he and his girlfriend are graphic artists. I want and will rewatch this video again. I took have lots of antique and vintage and I am interested in their wallpaper where you design the color I want to write down the name. Great apt tour! Now I need to have breakfast and get going on my place so I can have my Dad for breakfast tomorrow. I wish I had a friend to help me. The organizing companies said my place is too small they only help in larger areas.

Believe it or not your families rotary phone may have been rented from the phone company! My parents had one and after renting it for nearly 30 years, it was not theirs to keep!
