    What the audience gave there - complete silence and focus and appreciative applause at the end... now that’s what you want as a musician when in a recorded session. I know it may look strange, but properly listening like that is the highest form of appreciation in this context

    My Great Grandfather, whom I never met, was from Cork, Ireland, and from what I hear...played "a mean fiddle". Inasmuch as he passed away 5 years before I was even born, I'll never get to hear him play but this will get me closer than I've ever been before to hearing what he very well may have played while friends and family were gathered 'round for an evening! Thank you!

    It is a recorded session. The public is not free to do what it wants. The main goal here is to have a clear sound and à quiet audience...

    When I was a student I used to go into a proper Irish pub in Manchester (which has sadly been knocked down now) and people just turned up and played. Sometimes they weren't that good but sometimes they were great and I loved the spontaneity of it.
    I now live in the Yorkshire countryside and there aren't any Irish people or much music for that matter. I miss it.

    I am so upset when I was younger my mom bought a cd from Crackle Barrel restaurant. I think it was called the Fiddle and Flute. Not sure. I cant find the cd anywhere. I cant even find it online. It was a dark colored cd with flutes and fiddles on the cover. It sounded like this. There was even parts in the cd where this lady sang in another langue. It was the most beautiful music I ever heard. It made me feel so good listening.

      Send an email to claddaghrecords.com they will find that cd for you/look through their listings. Give them as many details as possible eg: the year you found the cd (as can think of half dozen cd's with that kind of cover). Most forms of 'traditional music' eg: irish, breton, scottish, cape breton, northumbrian, welsh are living traditions and the internet is only the tip of the iceberg does not catch most of the stuff out there.

    I've got a question... how exactly is this flute called? I'm playing a cross flute for the last 19 years and would love to get one of these wooden (or how do you call it in english?) cross flutes, too! They sound so beautiful.... I'd like one that Matt Molloy played. Is it just called "Irish Flute"? Sorry, I've got no clue... Would be nice if anyone's got a name or a link to a site where I can buy such a flute in Germany... (perhaps Amazon?). Thanks guys!

    New Irish D Flute With 6 Keys? I want to buy one but I don't know the difference between those Irish flutes...

    • @edelahaye
      @edelahaye 6 лет назад

      Simple models have no keys. Only 6 plain holes, just like a tin-whistle in D.
      The "natural" notes are the scale of D major (D E F# G A B C# on two octaves). The C and the Bb can be achieved with "forks", but the other missing notes (G#, F, Eb) are difficult (half-holes), hence the keys to get the missing notes more easily.
      Because 5 notes are missing, the usual set has 5 keys. But for ergonomical reasons, some of the keys are "doubles" (short key, long key). So you can have 6 or more. Not to mention an C extenstion that allow some low notes like C# and C (even B on some Austrian flutes).
