They were specifically told there would be no half in and half out … so if they returned after making $$$ from Netflix and Harry’s book negates the agreement from profiting from their titles. As well, going to Vancouver (instead of Toronto) would put them in closer proximity to Tinseltown which was always MM’s intended objective!

Up 'til that point in his life, he'd dealt with honorable people who told him the truth (even if he didn't like hearing it). He'd always been leveled with and so thought everyone was up-front and honest. What a dupe. It's literally dangerous for him to be out on his own without an army of fixers. Agree. From what I understand , King Charles gave Harry a fairly substantial one off payout before cutting off Harry's yearly income he paid Harry per year, when Harry decided to step back from royal duties and leave to live abroad with MM.
In addition Harry also had his inheritance from his late mother. The Late Queen left the door open for a year, in case they changed their minds and wanted to come back to the royal fold as working royals.
They had loads of money that would have kept them going for a few years, if used wisely, whilst they rebuild their lives and careers in the USA.
Most of us when we leave a job, we get a one off severance pay, notice pay and last salary. Performing royal duties is a job if service royals do. Their expenses are covered, get free accomodation and still a income from the royal purse as well as the Charles income at the time they were working royals.
Their clothing expenses are paid for and all sorts.
Harry expected his father to continue giving him a income per year, whilst as he says they work to become financially independent abroad for a few years.
What Charles paid out as a final payment to Harry was more than enough to support them for at least five years if they used their money wisely whilst rebuilding their lives and careers abroad.

The various inheritances, properly invested would have delivered a very good, but not lavish income. Harry could have continued his charitable work and Meghan could have gone back to acting.

Neither of them are very clever because the only asset of value they had was their royal titles. Yet they spent the last 5 years tarnishing those titles by trashing the institution that gave them those titles.

I don't think it was so much an exit as it was a forcing out. I think alot of it was Meghan was shown the door after some of her bad behavior.

I believe that was her plan, too. At least, once she realised that she would never rule the royal roost. If she couldn't be Queen, or at least on an equal footing with Catherine, then she could be first a Hollywood star and then the President of the US. If memory serves it was one of the highly reliable royal authors (could have been Valentine Low) who, in his book, wrote that one or two members of the senior staff grew increasingly concerned that Markle had married into the RF simply to gain global recognition, but that her real intent was to get into US politics.
I think she blew the political option out of the water during the Oprah interview when she trashed what was to her a foreign monarchy, the monarch's family and the most senior member of a Church. She demonstrated that she was a poor fit for any position of authority because aside from the skills required, she not only couldn't maintain confidentiality but also couldn't tell the truth.
She then spent the next year or so proving the same thing over and over again.

I remember when it was revealed the Queen had secretly managed to use public money to refurbish the royal yacht. Maybe she used it for her public duties. But in that article it was revealed that her spending was all kept secret. There is so much poverty in the country, I think that policy should change. Why can't all the hungry people be fed and clothed and housed? They just don't do much of that over there.

Brittany, I totally agree with you. In the Oprah interview, Harry admitted that none of this would’ve happened had it not have been for Megan. She inflated his ego. She made him believe that He was the rockstar of his family. She led him to believe that she was a power player in Hollywood and had mega stars and agents in her pocket and that they would take over because of who they were and America would love him because of who his mother was. She totally manipulated him against his family and friends. She used him in the worst ways possible because she played on one of his weaknesses and every one of his vulnerabilities. And she used his fears against him. That is not only diabolical and sick, but the most cruel thing I can imagine. Sadly, she brought out one of his idiosyncrasies, bitterness, anger, and jealousy. Feelings he may have had under the surface she brought them out and that is who we see now. Years ago, before Megan I had a soft spot for him because of what he went through with his mother, but at this point I don’t care if I ever see him or hear his name ever again.

I laugh at Harry constantly harping on about security. I just watched a programme on UK tv showing the late Queen Elizabeth II getting on a public train to go to Kings Lynn. No doubt she had protection with her, but there she sat, on a public train, headscarf on, looking just like anyone else on a train trip.
Prince William worked as an air ambulance pilot for 2 years. He didn't have security to do his job. Harry just wants VIP treatment without thinking if he warrants it.
People have come upon King Charles several times just going for walks in the country. Some of them chatted with him with no idea who he was! I'm sure he had security about but not obvious and he is the King!
The Queen said that if Meghan wanted to carry on acting, she could if that was her choice ..😮
Even Charles advised Harry to let Megan know she should keep up her career as his Income was limited and Harry could not expect a Hugh increase in his allowance..then Meghan proceeded to buy the most expensive things spend money like water, and shocking Charles when the bills were issued to Charles office months later.
Funny that QE told her to keep her acting job, so did King Charles. KC said he couldn’t afford mm, KC asked ph who was paying for the expensive wedding fireworks, etc. These are just a few of the quotes I’ve read over the years about mm’s spending early on. I can’t imagine treating my in-law parents so terribly. 😢
Was it really 'her choice', or did others ultimately make the decision for her? I honestly do not recall any reports of her receiving any offers of roles in Hollywood or elsewhere. Absolutely no one was calling for her to review any scripts.

Some say that MM " didn't understand": didn't understand the monarchy, didn't understand her role, didn't understand the system, didn't understand the culture - and so on. I don't think that's the case.
She isn't a stupid woman and I don't believe for a moment that just because someone is born in one country under one system, others are beyond their understanding.
I think she understood it all very well but just didn't accept it. Harry said that one of the things that attracted him to MM was that she challenged rules and I think she was of the view that, once inside the RF, she could succeed in challenging the way things were done. That was her mistake and a foolish one, too. Soon after they left the UK I remember listening to a British news site and they were interviewing an old former Royal reporter that had apparently been well known. I sm am American and relatively new to the UK royal soap opera at that time so I don’t remember his name. He said that a palace source had told him that Harry had gone to the Queen before they left and suggested that to modernize the monarchy that he and William be made co heirs. Of course that would also mean that would be equal to Catherine .Queen told him no at which point Harry asked for half in and half out to which the Queen also said no. They got mad and left.

In my view the Megxit statement trashes MM's stories about her return flight to Canada a day or so after it was made public. This is when a crew member is supposed to have thanked her for her service, and when she is supposed to have collapsed into her bodyguard's arms, crying that she'd tried so hard.
The thing is, that flight happened before the Sandringham Summit had taken place. She didn't know that the terms they'd outlined in the Megxit statement wouldn't be acceptable to the Queen. When she got on that plane she thought she would get - or at least stood a chance of getting - the half-in, half-out deal that she and Harry wanted.
As the Sandringham Summit hadn't even happened, all that the crew member could have known was what was in the Megixt statement so why would he be thanking her for her service when the statement expressed their intention to carve out a new role within the institution and continue to support the Queen? Why would she collapse in her bodyguard's arms saying she'd tried so hard when she wasn't then "out"?

Can I please set something straight about this IPP business, there is a lot of confusion and misunderstanding and even Lady C gets it wrong
1. Only heads of state are automatically IPPs (and of course this only comes into play when they are not in their own country - the clue is in the I)
2. Family members travelling with them, or on their behalf also have IPP status. thus Harry and Meghan would have had IPP status when on their official trips to Australia etc. and South Africa, but NOT on their holidays to Ibiza, Netherlands, Canada etc.
3. A very good example is that of King Charles when he was PoW. He regularly visited Romania for private walking holidays, during those trips he was NOT an IPP - even though he was the heir to the British Throne. However, the Met Police would hae wanted to sent people with him and the Romanian authorities would have kept on eye on him, but they didn't have to do so.
4. The realipolitik is that no authority will want the backlash if anything happens to the King of the UK's son when he's on their patch, so of course he's going to get security, whether we like it or not, whether he deserves it or not. But this is a choice for the host country/region. It is NOT mandated because of who he is.
5. The UK, "RAVEC" court case was absolutely nothing to do with IPP status. H wanted 24/7 tax-payer funded security for him and his family whenever he was in the UK - not even the other working royals get that!!! the agreement was that he had to give 30 days notice of any UK visit and then a decision would be made on what security he would get. as per 4. He would always get police protection if it was official business. But probably not if she just wanted to pop over for a break at Soho House. The deal was perfectly reasonable and him challenging it was totally arrogant and entitled BS
