Guess imma watch this tomorrow. I think it was a good game. The midgame made me hope is would be a great one and get entry into my hall of fame, but it missed out unfortunatly. But Its a good game to recommend especially for people who dont play a ton of games. Super accessible.
Music is obviously fantastic. I was surprised that the combat still had me hooked near the end unlike the mario rpg games. The locks system and ultimates did a goodjob of making the combat a little bit more engaging. But its not a combat system I am yearning to return to. I loved the enviroments. After I realized that there is really not a ton of exploration going on and its more like watching the cast travel I took more time to embrace it.

Yeah I definitely think someone looking for a first RPG experience would be well placed to play Sea of Stars. It tends to be the veteran RPG players I know who have more nitpicks with regards to the game, but still enjoyable at least in my opinion.

I've been getting more into JRPG's over the past few years, but I was never able to get into turn-based RPG's because it's a combat system I couldn't get into. Sea of Start is the exception. I've ended up really liking Sea of Stars despite being a turn-based combat game and I fully plan on finishing it. I'm actually at the point where I could get to the final boss, but I'm trying to find more side content and secrets, though I admit I'm having trouble with finding out how to do some of that side content and how to find some of those secrets. There's stuff that I'm like "There's SOMETHING about this, but I don't know what to do!"

That's great that Sea of Stars was able to get you invested in the gameplay. Obviously there are guides you can go to for those last secrets but it seems to me you want to figure out for yourself which will make it all the more satisfying when you do

There is a turbo skip dialogue if you hold RB and A on xbox controller (Not sure what it is on keyboard but its probably the same for switch and playstation)
btw this game is definitely my favorite game along with crosscode and dead cells (I've also been playing through chrono trigger and if it keeps up the quality it's at it will probably replace dead cells spot in my top 3)

That is good to know that skip dialogue exists. Also CrossCode is fantastic as well

First thanks for the Great job like always. I have played through most of the game. One of the things that I really liked was the relic system that allowed for player to customize the game diffuculty. Also the puzzles overall diffuclty was in a very sweet spot not very challenging but not easy either. Also I love the wheels game and check every new town first for wheels. I use archer and mage combination. What was your wheels combination?

Yeah the relic system reminded me of how Supergiant games handles difficulty in their games which is always a good comparison to get from me.
My wheels combination varied depending on what my opponent was throwing out. Mage was usually in it along and then it depended after that.

I found myself pretty disappointed by SOS :( I definitely think the hype played a big role in it, but, yeah. It's certainly gorgeous, maybe the most beautiful game I've ever played, with great music. The characters were charming but charm was all they had, plus after a while it seemed like Valere and Zale's entire personalities were "friend of Garl." Cutscenes went on wayyyy too long for a story that was only okay.
However, my biggest issue is definitely with the combat. I'm really surprised I have not seen more critical takes on the combat. It is just so ... boring and samey the entire time. Even if you make it harder, there's not much skill involved. I always joke that all I do in turn-based games is attack attack attack and never buff, but this game made me appreciate buffing and strategies, because it had almost none of that and it made the combat so dull. It felt like there was no sense of progression either, like the first boss you fight in the game feels a lot like the last one. I was soooo tired of playing this game by the time I finished, and it was only like 30 hours long (I would go get the true ending, but honestly... I don't care enough to get it). Most games I play are way longer and not this tedious.
Overall I think I'd recommend it, it really is stunning to look at, but it's way more flawed than the talk around it would have one think, imo. I see people gushing and gushing and gushing about it and I just don't understand at all. I'm sure the hype contributed to my feelings, and if it came out of nowhere I'd maybe like it more.

While the overall internet impressions have been very positive, in my friend group thoughts have been more mixed on Sea of Stars. Pretty much for exactly the reasons you've laid out here.

Can I grind in this game to become overpowered? I heard you cant.

Grinding is tough, and the level cap is only 30. I also don't know if grinding will even keep you overpowered in the late game.
