A Cambaicos cruéis e Mamelucos.
A nobre ira lhe vinha prometendo
Que o sangue fará dar pelos giolhos
Nas inimigas naus; senti-lo-á o Nilo,
Podê-lo-á o Indo ver e o Gange ouvi-lo.
- Luís de Camões [Os Lusíadas, Canto X]
Que obra prima. É impossível apreciar suficientemente a arte de Camões
In portuguese Almeida ship was Flor do Mar, besides language the video is great. Obrigado!
According to Wiktionary, in archaic Portuguese, "frol" and "fror" were also used to denote "flower".
@@roddeazevedo ok but I was refering to the preposition:
"Del" is castillian
"Do" is portuguese
So "Flor do mar" not "flor del mar"
@@JA-yk7wv Indeed, that is the case today. However, Bartolomeu Dias's surname in the 16th century was written "Diaz" and the city Elmina in Gana - where the Portuguese built the São Jorge da Mina Fortress - suggests that vernacular Renaissance Portuguese might been a bit Castilian-like. Note that, at the time, the Portuguese language was just 2 centuries old and it might be the case that not everyone yet spoke the standard Portuguese. Some might have spoken something closer to what would sound Mirandese today.
@@roddeazevedomakes sense, the title of king of portugal usually was also written as El rei de portugal so maybe you're right!
@@roddeazevedo so you're saying that vasco da gama was vasco de la gama?
It is Fernão de Magalhães not Ferdinand Magellian
@@nunoamaro6518 yup
It's the english name for the same person.
@@jfarinhote there is no one english with that name, it is just injust to Portugal

You dont need a great army and general to lead. All you need is a decent navy, good admiral with exceptional abilities and this world is yours..

Time to go for the afonso de Albuquerque. Cesar of the Indic, Lion of the Seas
Concerning the second option decision would be that the Portuguese didnt have enough gun powder also they knew the other fleet possible agreement in place. Concerning the dislike the portugese had about islam is because of the constant raids islam did to iberia against them capturying people and enslaving them an policy that derives from the quran and is still practiced today in somalia and until the 18th century by the barbary states. The mistake was done by venice . And today we see maroko algeria egypt turkey being armed by europeans it seems like historical lessons where not learned Also lets not forget islam was an tyrant in indian i say that because islam killed millions and destroyed hunderd of thousand s of hindu temples.
You are better than Hollywood! They still must be thinking in doing the same old repetition of henry viii, so bored that they will call it, henry ix, just known for collecting necks. Here, History Real Happened and much better than Fiction!
@@Paul-r3v it seems like Hollywood loves its comfort zone. I was surprised that Netflix made those two series on the ottomans and Marco Polo. It’s too bad that they don’t make movies about this time period - as you said history can be more powerful and interesting than fiction
@@FlashPointHx Marco Polo is a ficcional character, at least the words and the descriptions are typical of the 19th century, never from the european middle and post middle ages.
