The Rio fuel economy can get a little bit more better by putting the car in manual mode and upshift to the highest ratio so the RPM will drop down to 2k when driving via Plaines of the Midwest.
I have one and it actually NOT tiny! It's body and interior size is like a normal sedan, not a subcompact. It's a great vehicle and super sharp looking. I love mine! I get almost 44 mpg on highway..it's amazing! I drive 77 miles from Philadelphia to Lancaster and it uses less than a quarter of a tank of gas.
Great video! Although I do want to comment on pumping gas using a 3 click method. Folks!! Don’t ever do this!! Gas enters the car via the fuel filler neck (the tube that connects the gas tank to the hole you stuck the gas nozzle into) and then encounters a canister containing small charcoal pellets. These filter the gas. If gas flows through this too quickly, or if you continue to feed gas into the car after the first click, the charcoal pellets will exit the canister and start collecting in the fuel filler neck. After repeated episodes you may end up with a clogged fuel filler neck and find that you CANNOT fill up your tank! Trust me, it totally sucks when this happens. Best habit to stick to is to put the gas nozzle into the car, set it too the slowest fill speed, after the first click take it out: you’re done! No “topping off” or trying to round it up to the next dollar. Don’t want the hassle of getting loose change back? Suck it up, buttercup. You’ll be better off in the long run
I got this car a while ago, and as far as the sound system goes, I do think it's great - for the driver. I've sat passenger and have heard from others in my passenger seat that the music is quiet while being on the upper limit of what I would accept for volume. Do love the car, think it's great, and can't wait to get out and put more miles on it.
The factory audio volume settings are kinda low..y9u can adjust them in the sound settings. Also, play with the fade and the folks in the back should get better sound.
@@ninaj84 I played with the EQ and some other things and I've definitely remedied the issue to a good degree. Also doesn't hurt that most of my driving is just by myself. But thanks!!!
I had a 2018 Kia Rio LX hatchback (the first year of the current generation) and really liked that car, but it was mated to a 6 speed automatic. I was getting about 38-41 MPG on the highway. I swapped it out over a year ago for a 2018 Corolla iM hatchback, thinking I needed the extra cargo space, but I ended up never needing the extra carrying space and it is not exactly the most fuel efficient vehicle (only 24-26 in the city, 33-34 on the highway). Since gas prices have spiked significantly over the past year, I'm dumping it in a few days for a 2022 Kia Rio LX sedan with the IVT (CVT). Seeing what the driver of this video got, what other commentators are saying...coupled with my own experiences with the IVT in the Kia Forte where I was getting about 44-45 MPG on the highway during a 300+ mile rental, I'm excited for the gas savings. I drive about 3,000-3,500 miles a month and should be able to save a lot at the pump with gas hovering around $4.35 in my area for regular (suburban Los Angeles).
I have the same car in blue. Just did a seafoam treatment and it has fantastic fuel economy again. Almost 6 years later with ZERO problems. Not a single recall.
Yeah, last 136 miles I averaged about 50 mpg. If you drive 55 mph for long distances with few stops, 50+ mpg is easy. It's doable on flat road going 70, but dips under with a bit of wind. 35-45 mpg is more realistic with frequent stops, less in stop and go traffic.
It is sold with 1.4 na engine and 6 speed tork converter automatic gearbox here in Turkey. The car you tested is a 1.6 na with CVT gearbox, right? If yes, where can I find the technical details of it?
Picking one up for Uber. The mpg a lone will save me money in the long run and the basic creature comforts like smaller tires and wheels, manual ac etc
Do all the Kia Rios (base, as well as 'Technology package') have standard cruise control? Is it adaptive? Also, please tell me that this car does not have that annoying 'start/stop' technology, and if it does, that it is easily disabled. Thanks!
44/46 mpg without hybrid higher initial cost and cat converter theft risk (hybrid cats contain more precious metals due to the extra work required to process emissions from on/off cycles). Have you done the current Nissan Versa? Same engine.
Have to remember that was older cars modern cars are geared to where they can operate efficiently between 65 to 85 you can get better in some cars at lower speeds but some like my VW actually get better mpg sustain 70 than 50-55 mine the 6spd auto turbo and everything is most happy in 70s it's weird but it's probably cause 70-90 is more common in Germany and getting that way here in the US too
I'd have to drive behind trucks at 65mph!! And right lane usually have the most potholes on freeway. I wouldn't risk myself driving on that lane on all my freeway driving
Hi, I´m from Brazil and I´m thinking to buy this car. Here this model has the exact same engine 1.6l 4 cilinders in line. Kia group do not oficially inform the fuel consumption so your video helped me a lot. Just one question: What´s the ammount of ethanol do you have in your gasoline ? Here we have 27.5% of ethanol mixing to the gasoline, we call "etholine". Perhaps the consumption here will be poor since the gasoline is very different. Thank you !
If you are out on the highway and get any significant wind gusts you will know it. Advise you keep a firm grip on that steering wheel. 😉Owners reporting handling issues when being passed by large vehicles or during inclement weather. Your call though. Drive safely!
It's not that bad at least for the 2023. Safe enough if you have more than one finger on the steering wheel. I drove it an two hours in crazy bad snow / wind storm last week (traffic going 25 in 60 mph zones at times). And it was a tank, I kinda know how to drive well though lol
Yea believe me kia is quite expensive here in Malaysia . Not many people could afford the car like rio price range here . Btw love your video so much !
I bought a new 2020 Kio Rio S HB in April. I paid $16,674. I thought I got it at a good price. I seem to be getting 39 miles to gallon. I always put in the highest octane available 91. Any ideas how I can improve gas mileage? I drive about 90 miles to work a day.
First step would be not spending money on premium fuel. You will not make up the money in savings with this car. Other than that, that seems pretty good for mixed driving. Make sure your tires are properly inflated.
@@timdenny1991 just a note about premium fuel. It will keep an engine cleaner because they add detergents that are good for the valves etc, and there's often significantly less ethanol in premium grade. It will also contain stabilizers for longer shelf life. Biggest factor for most is the octane. Octane prevents ignition, specifically pre-ignition, which only matters in cases of high compression ratios, which the Rio does not have. If you got a sport bike, boat or car with strong turbo then premium is the way to go. But for the new Rio the benefits are limited and improved fuel economy won't return the cost increase in full. Also, congrats on the car. It's nice
