  • Aug 20, 2021 Join us on our Southern Illinois farm for a multi faceted land management and food plot update. In today's episode I'll be using my Bobcat T650 CTL skid steer with my Blue Diamond Severe Duty cutter to do the first step for my fall food plots with the mowing. I did spray several of these plots a few weeks ago with herbicide to reduce the substantial weed competition. So, we'll start with the Bobcat T650 CTL and brush cutter, then we'll take some look backs from last deer season as this particular food plot is a brand new plot, that used to be thick woods and brush. We'll look at how successful it was last year with some beautiful big buck footage, and see how the brand new food plot worked. Then we'll transition to the Kioti RX7320 and home made chisel disc harrow and work up the ground in this new food plot since there are a couple remaining stumps and roots from the trees that used to be in this space. Then we will increase the size of this new fall food plot this year since it was so successful, bigger is definitely better! Also during the farm vlog and land management update my 'land manager' (aka the 'other' me:) will be getting my new/used Polaris Sportsman 850 ATV ready for some work! I'll be adding an ATV sprayer on the rear and an ATV seed spreader on the front to get ready to tackle all of my fall food plots very soon. And since my timing was off, I will now be watching the weather for the next chances of rain before I start planting the fall food plots. I have learned many times that if you plant early, get rain, and then a long, hot, dry spell that it can doom your brand new plots! I missed the rain we got 2 days ago, so now I'll have to be patient and wait for the next 'good' chances of rain and then break tail on getting a bunch of plots planted! Thanks for joining me today and as always if you enjoy our content please hit the like button and share it out there to help us compete against the 'mega' RUclips channels! We would greatly appreciate that! Things have been busy lately so stay tuned for lots more fun land management projects, Bobcat e42 R series mini excavator projects, more Kioti tractor projects, Mrs. Kapper's DIY rustic barn wood projects, Rustic farmhouse decor, Bobcat T650 CTL skid steer projects and much more country living adventure! It is an honor to have all of you tagging along and joining us on this amazing journey, we greatly appreciate that! Also best wishes to those of you who are in the process of buying some land, or considering it for your future, best of luck! Thank you, and we hope to see you soon on an upcoming video project! Kapper Outdoors, living the dream, one acre at a time.

    I am following a number of similar RUclipsrs and I find it enjoyable to see 'real' life in America as I am from the UK in a rural area in the south, West Sussex. What really impresses me with yours as well as the actual content is how you have developed the 'filmmaking' side. For instance the effort you are making with the introduction titles etc. All the different whizzy titles and all. You are becoming a real ace at that. If you look back at some of your earlier work you can really see the advancement. Well done Joe. Are there RUclips Oscars? You must be inline for one. Hope your health is improving as much. Best wishes from over the Pond.

      Wow thanks for the great feedback! Much appreciated! I am constantly trying to improve our content in as many ways as possible! Now if you tube would just promote us one tenth as much as they do some other similar channels we would be in good shape! But we greatly appreciate you and all of our regular channel family members here! Take care!

    Borrow Curtis' finish disk or drag it and then plant and drag again. Might want to get your seed out by Saturday of this week. Some rain set starting Sunday and Monday.

    Just a couple of things to try; your coulters (especially the notched coulters are designed to cut and size residue) you may want to try putting more weight on them by shortening the center link. This will also raise the back shovels not necessarily a good thing. In addition, we always tried to do our second pass at a slight angle to the first pass. In theory it should help better size the residue and also eliminate tillage streaks. On long narrow fields probably not practical. Always enjoy your projects, and hope you get timely rains.

    • @kapperoutdoors
      @kapperoutdoors  3 года назад +1

      Thank you and you are right for sure. I have been experimenting with the 2nd, 3rd passes at angles to kind of cross cut just a little. And I bet some more weight would help, because if I angle it for more weight on the coulters, then the chisels won't cut the dirt. But I will keep improving it! Thanks

      Hey man thanks for checking in. My lungs still suck, can't get to worked up, but at least I can do basic stuff and work a machine for a little bit. Also since the stuff happened my body is doing all kinds of crazy stuff that it never did before, and none of it is good! But at least I'm still here, able to do some of the stuff I like! Thanks and take care man

    Hey Kap, how many acres do you think you could do in a day with the blue diamond?

    • @kapperoutdoors
      @kapperoutdoors  3 года назад

      Man, that's a tough call. First it depends on if there are small trees mixed in or not, or if it is just brush. My best GUESS, if it is just thick brush, in 8 hours I would think you somewhere between maybe 5 and 10 acres, but again I have not used it like that just yet so it is just a guesstimate. Thanks

      @kapperoutdoors  3 года назад

      lol yep.. Only hunted it once so far!! But it is a back up blind for only certain wind directions. That old, crusty wood blind that I moved is really the home run blind on that plot!
