I own a used car dealership with service dept. In addition, we buy cars that have been in minor accidents. One vehicle group that has not been mentioned is the Dodge Dart & Chrysler 200. We finance our own cars; we would look at Turo as a used car factory, the Dodge Dart is a unloved car, the ones we have sold seem to be bullet proof if prepared properly. I find that if you stick to one model and then buy a few wrecks with good miles from Copart then gives you a "parts department".
Very informative, Aubrey. You organize your content well. Carry on. P.S. the public speaking coach in me wants to remind you that “when” and “whenever” are not synonyms.🤗
Just FYI for you Aubrey. I been driving uber for 4and ahalf years. I put 231,000 miles on my 2015 hyundai sonata 2.5 liter. I had no issues at all with it. I only put tires brakes and oil changes. I currently am driving a 2013 ford fusion 2.5 liter it has 196,000 miles on it. Not 1 problem with it at all . Just stay away from cars with turbo that have high miles. And absolutely don't buy Chrysler lol.
Great info, thank you for sharing! I personally really like Hyundais (my sister has one and it has been bulletproof) I just for some reason have never had luck with them on Turo, maybe it is the specific cars I am buying and not Hyundai specifically. Agreed on the Chrysler lol
@@AubreyJanik hyundai was junk before 2015. Anything after 2015 is good. At least the sonatas. And Kia is there sister company so the Kia optima is a good car also. I also had one of those, it was a good car.
What if I bought the vehicle from your example (year 2009, 129K Miles) and listed it on Turo; would Turo still allow me to keep the car listed on the platform once it reaches 130K and goes past the 12-year mark?
Can you talk about how you finance your cars .. a fleet of 17 cars is not something I am assuming you have the cash for (typically). Would love to hear abt that
Why it not looking at the option to buy brand new vehicles with the warranty. After 3 years it’s pays off and you have 3 years old vehicles paid off with no more than 30k miles on it !?
Just curious? Who is willing to rent a 2009 MY car? We usually have one new and one 3 year old car in our family and replace them every 3-4 years. Aren't 12 year old cars unsafe to drive?
I know Kia from experience lol 😅 my older sister and her husband had it for literally 6 months, they had a lil crash on it and the engine blew out and to many maintenance on it so they had no choice to give it up sadly

AND THE OTHER VIN neither one matched the car... we looked at a 2007 mustang with auto trans. First vin i was given came back to a Honda accord, second came back to a 2007 mustang but it was a manual transmission. We opted to politely decline the purchase.... Do your due diligence...
Oh, and do you have to pay for insurance on every vehicle? If "yes", what type of auto insurance do you pay? Commercial? and is there a discount? Thanks!
I purchase commercial insurance for each vehicle. I use what’s called a period X insurance policy through American Busienss Insurance. They understand the car sharing market. Keep in mind that their policy is a state minimum policy. The actual damage claims are mainly through the ridesharing app. Contact American Business Insurance and ask them about their period X policy. They don’t cover all states. You will pay between $60 to $68 a month.
Hello Aubrey, I've watched several of your videos and think they're great! I'm looking to buy cars for the Tampa Bay and Orlando area soon and wondering if you recommend or have an opinion regarding buying cars from auctions?
So how does it work if you get a car for Turo with 129k miles and they approve it? Is that car then grandfathered in and Turo's insurance will cover that car after it passes 130k miles? So in theory, you can be using a car older than 12 years with more than 130k miles and Turo's insurance would still cover that car as long as you originally put that car on the Turo platform within the year/miles limitation?!?
@@AubreyJanik Thank you. I read other hosts thought this as well since Turo allowed them to keep booking and they always took pictures and registered the mileage at each booking. But once that car got in an accident, Turo's Insurance wouldn't cover it because they said the vehicle was over the mileage. Have you heard anything like this?

Thanks for subscribing! I pay cash personally - all my cars are fairly cheap (at least as cheap as far as cars go) -- I had 2 financed cars earlier in my Turo career and I found that with the monthly payments and higher priced vehicles the profit margin just didn't make as much sense. So for me, my sweet spot is simply buying cars in the $5k price range and then paying cash for them in full
