What an HEV suit up would be like

- I rewatched some of marvel's movies and I wanted to recreate one of the scenes from the first iron man movie but with gordon freeman and his HEV suit in the half life universe . This was animated in Blender with ported assets from half life alyx and the SFM workshop

smh gordon doesn't wear a helmet , I understand your points, I do. He's just never seen wearing a helmet canonically so
Oh yeah lemme just block headcrab attacks with my nothing.
@@The_Chillton head of steel
your telling me that the suit of armor, specifically designed to allow someone to survive in a unsurvivable situation, protects every part of the body except for the part that came up with that idea.
gordon's helmet is schrodingers cat, when observed he does not have the helmet but when not observed he has a helmet
if you were to add the helmet, would it assemble like iron man or like the suit in dead space? btw nice work really cool
just realised he has a HUD without the helmet because his glasses are the HUD
Not to mention these glasses also protect him while swimming in highly radioactive acid.
@@seva809 Nah Gordon is too much of a chad he doesn't need the HEV suit, he is just using it because Black Mesa forces him to do it.
I always thought Gordon just imagined the Hud
@@ackrien9630 or it could be that we, as a player, see this hud, but gordon doesnt and he can only rely on audio notifications from hev
Nope
That's actrually a interesting way of seeing it, i know gameplay=lore but its funny to me that HEV is just a goo that you automatically wear if you touch it.
I'm under the impression that they just didn't want to animate gordon going into the HEV station for gameplay reasons. I always thought the HEV station unlatched and latched the suit onto gordon in a similar but faster and more compact fashion.
@@SylverScourge Also, there's a helmet that they just didn't feel like adding for box art reasons. Otherwise there's no way Gordon survives; there's no way for certain sections of Xen to have an oxygen rich atmosphere and no way does Gordon survive for more than a few hours after taking in the massive amounts of radiation in the Black Mesa reactor or the Combine citadel core.
@@MenachemSchmuel Xen's atmosphere is livable compared to Earth though from what we've seen, in the original half-life there's a scientist being held captive in Nihilanth's lair and if you consider the expansions canon or semi canon then Barney Calhoun and Adrian Shephard were able to survive in xen without being crinkled like soda cans and without any special breathing equipment.
Radiation though I 100% agree with.
@@Walternity That's why I specified "certain sections." There are times where you're floating hundreds of feet in the air on a small platform with nothing below you, or surrounded by gases and flames. Anywhere where you find Xen creatures probably have atmosphere though.
@@MenachemSchmuel I'm pretty sure Black Mesa kinda fixes this by adding Earth like vegetation everywhere on Xen
Twitter users getting ready to make an entire thread about the aerodynamics and probability of if you could make gordon freeman release half life 3 himself:
Behold! The suit is held up by one bolt per ankle
actually looking at this after like a solid week, it kinda reminds me of that megamind suit up scene
@@ImmortalDaevon Well, its debatable
@@ImmortalDaevon yeah you're right. I think I wrote that while i was half-asleep.
I tried
I'm not saying anything, but have you ever seen Gordon Freeman and Tony Stark in the same room?
😳
This looks like the starcraft 2 scene
Hmmmmm
i have and just becouse of that im glad to be a voyeur
I have. The scientist team called them Gorny Freerk or Todon Staman on some occasions.
"so let me ask one thing: where is the helmet?"
"what do you mean?"
"the helmet, those things have helmets on them"
"I don't know what you are on about, those things never had helmets, you are acting like you have never seen one before"
"ok, fine"
later in zen: *dead explorer with HEV suit and helmet on*
☺ Yes, by the way...
Who need helmet as a head armour when you have plot armour
And to make matters worse, the new Xen introduces ZEVs, mawmen whose HEV helmets could not protect them against a head humper.
Is that from half life the hev suit?
Budget ran out sorry gordon
Ah, that explains the HUD we see. It's all rendered on Gordon's glasses.

It look ragged, like you just wear a tight diving suit and attach some metal scrap on it.
It’s probably just the software he used not something done on purpose
There must be sensors inside
Wait, that makes me think
Why doesn’t the HEV suit protect from electrocution?! Its surface is bare metal, a very good conductor compared to human flesh. How the fuck does Gordon get shocked in this thing?!
@@yfnratchet MAGIC!

Gordon does not need any of this, he's a highly trained professional!
isn't he?
I was wondering if anyone would make something like this. I played the whole Half Life series for the first time about a year ago now and I always wondered how Gordon would get into the HEV suit. My mind immediately went to the first Iron Man suit up
Gordon Freeman clearly gets just absorbed by the hev suit

In the game black mesa, the "ridiculous ties" scientist in the change room mentions that the mark IV suit includes a waste disposal hatch, unlike the mark III suit.
Just wait until he can call the suit to assemble itself on his body at will, that's gonna be even better
thats a really cool idea
Or in some, suitcase...@@AlfarexSrc
Scientist, step forward onto a platform.
HEV suit is locked... and sealed.
HELL, ITS ABOUT TIME
Well, that's unrealistic, everyone know you put on the HEV suit by just walking up to it
This reminds me so much of StarCrafts intro from the wings of liberty campaign
Super underrated, awesome work!
Imagine if the connectors get welded shot after an explosion or exposure to high temperatures, or even deformed due to fall damage.
Getting it off would be an absolute nightmare.
That’s why Gordon has a crowbar at any time, just pry the suit off when you can’t just make it come off easily.
I'd highly suggest using principle BDSF with ALPHA BLEND turned on for Gordon's beard, hair, and eyebrows I'm blender as it creates a VERY clean and realistic look in Cycles rendering
thank you!
For anyone curious, the track is surface tension 2 from black mesa ost.
This gives me Iron Man suit up vibes but what’s even better is that it reminds me of the Tychus suit up from StarCraft 2.
“Convict 626. Murderer. Pirate. Traitor. Today... you go free. But as you'll soon learn... even freedom has a price…” - Mengsk
Was the similarity to Tychus’ suit up in SCII intentional? Because heck, it’s about time.
Mr. Freeman, the test chamber awaits.
I know this is a shitpost, but from now on i shall always imagine this is how the H.E.V. suit works, because you did such an amazing job.
thank you! :)
@@AlfarexSrc you deserve the praise my brotha.

The only thing I could think of at the end of this was that Door Monster video.
"Why do you think they call it a HEAD crab? Because it attacks your FRICKIN HEAD" 😂
He'd be stuck wearing that thing for his whole life.
I always loved the idea he had to awkwardly hop into it like he's putting on a metal wetsuit
I like to imagine that the suit comes with a helmet and the machine is going to put it over his head, but he pushes it aside before putting his glasses on.

Epic Gamer Moment
This really gives me Starcraft 2's intro cinematic vibes
Personally, I like to think that Gordon dons on his H.E.V. Suit in a manner very similar to astronauts' space equipment and suits, or heavy-duty diving equipment and suits, which are typically donned on in two main separate interlocking and interconnecting body parts (upper and lower halves) sealed together. This also goes along with gloves, boots, a helmet and mask with a visor, and with both a life support backpack and jetpack propulsion manned-maneuvering units (MMUs).
So the diaper is under his jumpsuit?
@@cruelangel7737 Eh, well, I don't know, probably, or probably not. Underneath their space suits, astronauts wear special underwear that are like long johns, but cover the whole body except the head, are worn over their normal clothes, and have special heating/warming and cooling/conditioning units attached to tubes filled with water running all throughout them, inside and outside, plus some ventilation as well.
There's a lot comments about whether Gordon wears a helmet.
Valve frankly doesn't care about this technical lore stuff so its really up to you whether he does or doesn't.
My personal lore is...
-Gordon wears a helmet in the test chamber
-Blown off after the incident
-Replacement helmet for Xen
-No helmet for HL2 + Eps
I was expecting a "Hell! It's about time!" StarCraft 2 style.
We need a helmet version. For canon reasons. XD
the helmet isn't canon though.

"Welcome to the H.E.V mark 4 protection system, for use in hazardous conditions."
The sound effects are so satisfying. I know it's probably just a soda can, but damn, I could listen to it all day
Gordon not wearing his helmet is the exact kind of lax safety protocols that led to the resonance cascade in the first place. you'd never see this sort of negligence at Aperture labs, Black Mesa was a joke.
Killer turrets and rogue AIs don't sound too safe either
@@EldenLord-wh4ov the turrets are safe enough to protect babies, if you get hurt by one it's your fault for not programming it properly, also the bullets are an important aspect of the experiment. as for the AI going rouge, that was a simple miscalculation, an oversight that no body could have predicted, the problem was entirely with Caroline's brain. when we put Cave Johnson in a computer he didn't try to kill anyone, in-fact he was downright reasonable to be around, unfortunately he died before GLaDOS was completed so he had to go into a giant robot head, very unfortunate.
all hazards and traps in the Aperture laboratories are intentional and necessary. you'll notice that test subjects always wear proper PPE when testing, if the test wasn't meant to simulate what happens when a human skull slams into a concrete wall at 100 mph then they would absolutely be wearing a helmet (unlike Gordan.)
in conclusion Aperture labs is an excellent place to work and you should definitely invest heavily in our company. you can't put a price on science, but we definitely can, just leave the checks bland and we'll deal with it from there.
Reminds me of that scene back in Halo 4 where the Spartan-IVs suited up. Very similar to this. Intriguing.
