I love freestyle and I am a freestyle guy but folkstyle helps people keep others down for MMA as you said America doesn't have that big of a issue transitioning
As someone who was really disappointed seeing how the Olympics went I agree with you in a lot of ways but folkstyle still has its heart in many Americans and fun parts such as scrambles and mat returns that I think casual fans can appreciate. I think a fusion between the two styles would be best. I 100% agree the ride outs can be boring but at the same time mat wrestling is something so unique and special to Americas wrestling. I think a compromise would be to give a 20s period after a takedown to escape(1 pt) and get actual turns. I think most Americans and casual fans would agree that leg lacing and uncontrolled back exposure is just not true to the spirit and control and dominance associated with wrestling. I would like to see folkstyle keep control with takedowns and turns rather than just mere exposure. I think a push out rule would be good for action.
Can’t wait to watch you win Olympic gold! Why doesn’t this happen? Do we need a highschool stud to take another pico/cjeudo attempt? Professional leagues?
Love the Video! I agree freestyle is more fun especially having to reset to neutral position. By the way we need a list where you get your fit from my dude it’s always fire 🔥
We got beat by Japanese wrestlers because they studied our wrestlers with the plethora of film that is available for each of our wrestlers. If we did freestyle at the collegiate level that gives other countries a HUGE amount of study material.
I like this idea. And this might be a lil irrelevant but imagine all the colleges trying to redesign all their singlets to match freestyle criteria. Some colleges only do folkstyle so you never know.🤷
My biggest problem with this is there are some guys who where amazing folkstyle wrestlers but not great at freestyle do to there wrestling style. Take ben askren for example his scrambles and mat wrestling was amazing to watch but he didnt really have the athleticism for freestyle. a peterson or a spladle is alot more impressive then a leglace 4x to a tech. The other thing about freestyle that is kind of annoying is how you can just spam a leglace and rack up points without having to reset. Also the stalling calls in freestyle seem random and excessive and alsmost ruin the match sometimes. my 2 cents i like both though. On the flip side of the coin, i have loved wrestling as a kid and have always followed wrestling, and of course that was NCAA wrestling. So when i started to watch freestyle, seeing foreign wrestlers that i never heard of before beat our top guys was pretty shocking tbh.
Yea MMA is the king of sports and the true body controll in folk is somehow more pure to me...look at the ridiculous turns in free w the momentum and not breaking the hold it's not true control or dominance
Hot take here: I think folkstyle is more fun to watch at the college level. However, I do think collegiate freestyle would still be just as exciting. I am torn..
Horrible take.... American wrestling is King. Our sports are unique football, folkstyle wrestling are the best.... Bowing a knee to the Olympics means nothing growing folkstyle wrestling is the best way....
Only Americans want American sports. Should focus on world sports so we can compete more. Its like soccer, US should be top 5 at least but nope lets do American football which stops play every 5 secs.

Yes if we want to be more competitive on the international stage we should switch look how good the women did in the Olympics, and their college wrestling is more like Freestyle. That's no coincidence
I like both, but do think it takes U.S. college guys a few years to transition! Do think Micic has aged out now so it doesnt matter! He made a decision to wrestle for another country,so doesnt pertain to him suggesting what USA does! Not saying that because im bitter neither, wish him well!
It was the smartest and best move for his career. If russia can do it, so should we. Just think of all the amazing US wrestlers who lost at trials and couldn't compete in Paris .
I would have to disagree, everyone who is an American wrestler, came up under folk style, and we have had a lot of success from that. So to say that it doesn't work doesn't make sense when we're always hovering between 1 or 2 in the world. Second NCAA's every year has way more viewership than worlds or the parade Olympics. Freestyle is boring for the regular fans or new fans. A better solution is to get rid of Greco and do that on the side as you mention. And have folk style in the Olympics. A college degree goes a lot further than a gold medal. It's crazy girls Wrestling is getting rid of folkstyle across the country, when you look at all the girls who have been successful to date, they came up under folk. if you wanna come here to America and go to our universities, you need to learn our style Wrestling, which is way more popular. ncaa has way more viewer ship. as a fan college folkstyle duels are the most energetic wrestling you can go watch, plus no annoying horns from stands
Obviously we’ve seen a lot of success in recent years and even if we don’t switch to freestyle I think the US will be fine, but I do think that switching to freestyle would provide the US with a lot more depth. We’re already doing great but imagine how much better we could be if we focused on freestyle and freestyle tactics. I love folkstyle too, but like Stevan mentioned I also get bored watching rideouts.

As a highschool wrestler who is really good at takedowns, but not at holding somebody down, I agree 💯
