  • I purchased this Hilti DX 450 including a few boxes of pins and cartridges at auction and paid about £28 for it. I had to buy a new crush ring, but that was less than £5 delivered. After 20 minutes of cleaning, I had a fully functioning nail gun that is capable of firing pins into structural steel, or concrete.

    The best nail gun we (Hilti) ever made for fixing into steel.

    I have a few bits of dowel with a saw slot in them t get into tubes/barrels etc, Scotch-Brite wraps around them lovely and they clean out with those blue tissue rolls like you see to have.

    That's an incredible deal. With the right size charge, I think that nail should have gone straight through the steel into the concrete.

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  Год назад

      Absolutely. I think it would have gone all the way in, if I had adjusted the dial on the rear of the gun 👍

    I think for that price you can not go wrong and maybe as time goes on you may think of Applications that you can use it more then it was designed for

    When i started my apprenticeship with british steel, 30 years ago, the company had recently banned using these. But all the ekectricians still had them hidden away in the back of their cabinets because they're so damn useful / time saving.

    What is the best option to get a crushering? Meta's being impacted so much that it's almost fused to the barrel

      Not sure about that, without seeing it.
      If you can’t prise it out, you might have to use a hammer and chisel or similar!

    What a thing!! What are the fixings actually for once in place?

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  Год назад

      You can use it to fix all sorts of things to concrete or steel, such as cable clips, pipe clips etc.
      In a local factory where I worked, all the fire alarm cables were clipped to concrete ceilings using a similar type of nail gun 👍

    Can I ask what sort of auction you bought this at and where it was? Would love to see a tool auction. Thanks

      @ultimatehandyman  Год назад

      I have bought lots of stuff over the years from auction. I use this website- www.bidspotter.co.uk/en-gb
      But normally only bid on auctions that are not too far away 👍
      Just watch out for the fees though, and VAT
      The specific auction was Burnley auctions, so it's only 20 minutes away 😉

      @@ultimatehandyman If you clean most of the dirt off with a brush and put it in a suitable tupperware container it keeps working for ages. I just drop the items in an airtight container overnight and it works like a charm. I the seal it for next time. Cheers

    What nails does it take as was given one but need the nails

    • @RB-xg2vz
      @RB-xg2vz 21 день назад

      If you are fixing into concrete you need about 25mm of the nail going into the concrete + thickness of what you’re fixing. Stay at least 75mm from edge of concrete to avoid it cracking.

    • @RB-xg2vz
      @RB-xg2vz 21 день назад

      For fixing to steel beam - minimum steel thickness is 4mm….theres no maximum.
