  • We had our monthly fire drill yesterday, all went very smoothly this time. The drill started in record breaking time, and I was one of the first students that successfully got out and evacuated. I DID have permission to film this by my career coach knowing what she knows about my interest in fire & safety, and she's a subscriber to this channel. Sorry for the shaking when I got out due to the adrenaline & the cold. I used iMovie to help film this because I like 60 FPS.

    Fire drills are notoriously a big social event for most schools. Now back in the day when I was in school the bells and buzzers gave 10-12 short, intermittent rings followed by an approximately 10 second pause between each pattern of rings.

    Skip to 2:06 to fire drill

    • @MrTylerNicole1
      @MrTylerNicole1 3 года назад +2

      That’s incorrect. The alarm actually starts at 2:10. The 2:06 is when the annunciator panel begins to beep or piezo. It is NOT the same as a fire alarm. When a pull station or smoke detector is activated, the signal gets sent to the panel as an alarm condition. But before the horns and strobes activate, the panel beeps to show where the alarm was triggered. That in turn then activates the notification appliances. Hope this helps/

    You do fire drills early in the month. We don't do them till the middle of end of the month.

    • @MrTylerNicole1

      Wisconsin Outdoor Sirens Yeah. Where I went to high school, our fire drills were conducted in the early or middle part of the month. Often times, we had school activities near the end of the month. It was especially useful in the winter because often times in Maryland we often got rain or snow towards the end of the month. The earlier you do it, you don’t have to worry about it for the rest of the month. But we sometimes do our drills late also, but not very often.

      When I was in elementary school we would usually do ours the first school day of each month mainly because of hour terrified I was of the alarm back then lol. Each first school day of each month, getting me to school and to focus was a challenge as my anxiety was focused on the fire alarm.

    • @MrTylerNicole1
      @MrTylerNicole1 4 года назад +3

      Hornshow Railfan It depends on student needs. If a student has trouble coping with the alarm noise, the teacher may decide to tell him/her in advance. While it may seem effective for them, it is not as effective as it being unannounced considering that a real emergency cannot be predicted. For most students this is not that big of a problem, but people with hypersensitive reactions might do better with announced drills. If there was a real fire, it would be the responsibility of the school to come up with a plan that helps the student maintain relaxation strategies, because again, you cannot predict when the real thing will happen. It’s kind of challenging as our school does announced fire drills, but sometimes we will not know in advance either.

      Drill button on the main panel.

    • @MrTylerNicole1
      @MrTylerNicole1 2 года назад +1

      @@joshuawilliams5006 That’s interesting. I believe most places open up a fire alarm pull station to set the alarm off. In some buildings, using the drill button won’t put the entire system into alarm, which wouldn’t make sense in an actual fire. So you have to activate the pull station to trigger the alarm. Honestly, if it’s a real fire, and the smoke detectors haven’t picked up the fire yet, it’s much faster to just pull the alarm rather than rushing to the panel to find the drill button. Plus occupants won’t have access to the panel, but they can pull the alarm. I just think it’s best for fire drills to simulate a real fire, which means pulling it instead of hitting the drill button. I know you have to call central station prior to the drill but in the long run it will make the drills more effective.
