the amount of missed opportunities fate had to become this global fantasy phenomenon netflix series will always haunt me. they had EVERYTHING yet they've done NOTHING for us winx fans.
What I like about the Winx Club is that it's one of very few cartoons about girls being cool and feminine at the same time. I have noticed a trend in films, when female heroes, in order to be cool, are portrayed as masculine, they wear masculine clothes, swear, don't pay attention to fashion, smoke etc. It's almost like femininity is demonized and you have to behave like a man to be a strong personality. In this cartoon, the gals are powerful characters, they like fighting AND they're kind, caring and fashionable. For me, as a young girl, it was so inspirational. I was like "Wow, you can be both?"
Another cartoon that does this is Totally Spies, but I've never found it as fascinating as the Winx Club. Also, as I remember it, it oftenly portrayed Clover (the most fashionable and feminine of all three) as bitchy and hysterical. So, yeah, here's that.
I definitely agree! They were feminine but not “cute” to compare to many other girly shows, which made it even more unique! I love the blend of power and beauty
@@LisaFevral I wouldn't say that there's anything wrong about being cute either. You can be cute and a powerful character. It's just that stereotypically feminine activities are seen as bad and "not cool". It's soooo often that we see feminine characters being portrayed as dull bitches (Mean Girls is the easiest example) as if there's something inherently wrong about liking pretty clothes or doing your hair. "Legally Blonde" breaks that stereotype so well. The main character, Elle, is cute, loves the colour pink AND is also very smart and cool as fuck. Sailor Moon is also a great example of a powerful feminine character. I mean, you're also an example of a girl that is cool, funny, has a personality and also likes fashion and other feminine things. It's just that there are not so many characters that are like that in the mainstream culture (films etc.).
yeah I don't think there's anything wrong with being cute, it's just very common for girly shows to have the main cast be super cute as well! It's a shame that there's not more shows/media like this, it's the kind of media I enjoy ahahah
i felt like the body standard thing never really affected me as a kid because winx was never about that. their beauty was never the main storyline or message, even in their relationships with the specialists. instead it was about friendship and bravery and selfdevelopment and maybe cool outfits too :)
I did notice that they didn't look like me / that I would look ridiculous wearing the same things as them. I do remember am episode where Stella loses her beauy though but it's blurry
@@ivanaerard9452 There's two: one where she gets turned into a dinosaur thing and everyone comforts her, and one where her face turns into two dots and a line for a few minutes as a test of character. Also yes, the clothes are a little too much irl but they look so good in them :')
Honestly you can tell that the characters weren't really sexualized not just by the fact that the "camera" doesn't do any upskirt shots or focuses on their bodies like that, but also cause the outfits while super cute and stylish we're definitely not truly appealing to the male gaze. They were glittery and brightly colores, and while short they always seem more like something that would appeal to a little girl than to a grown man
Yes! It’s not filmed in accordance to “the male gaze” so the shots don’t linger on specific body parts in an objectifying manner/try to do gross up skirt shots/etc. Which means to me that there were a lot of women or people on the Winx production team who were committed to not making the Winx girls just sex symbols. Which I like ☺️ That’s just my opinion tho
There are definitely some unnecessary upskirt shots in the first 3 seasons, including excessive moaning and suggestive poses. I also remember in the season 1 finale theres a shot where we follow bloom flying and for some reason the camera starts to fully focus on her ass..
@@DeBlauweOlifant I’ve rewatched the first 3 seasons probably 15 times in my life and I genuinely am not sure what shots you’re referring to. The only thing I can think of that’s even mildly “suggestive” would be some shots from the enchantix transformations showing more skin. But honestly I’d put that in the same category as the OG Sailor Moon transformations. They’re really not sexualized imo
Bloom had a personality in Season 1 then they just kinda gave up, I really wished they explored more into her interest in drawing and reading, she was much more curious and flawed...then she became "perfect"
@@mmgs1148 I strongly disagreed, in the pilot even on Earth in Gardina, she had way more of a personality (drawing, reading, feeling like she isn't respected enough, helping Stella despite having no idea what she is doing), just an all around more dynamic characted that got yeeted.
About the outfit designs: I absolutely loved when you said that the reality of Winx is a "girls' world", where none of those cute outfits were meant to be seen as sexual, thus meaning true freedom of expression! Freedom from danger and judgment. I never thought about that, that was a beautiful observation! I still think their outfit in later seasons are kinda trash, but whatever.
@@atlaskat7980 outfits (and fashion in general) are only sexualized if you decide to sexualize them. There's much more emphasis on these outfits being "cute" or "trendy," than there is on them being "sexy." Just because a man designs characters and their outfits, doesn't mean there's any intent of them being sexualized.... Especially since (I don't actually know this for sure), it definitely seems as though these designs were done by a gay man.... Which from my own personal point of view (identifying as a gay man), is almost ALWAYS more in line with "admiration" or "appreciation" of a beautiful female, as opposed to "sexualization" of them... 🤷
The world building in The Winx is just elite. The fact that they created a specific world that each fairy comes from and made it all come together so naturally as one big universe is just.. To this day, I personally have still never seen anything else quite like it.
The creator of winx, who was Italian, actually hired fashion designers to design their outfits hence why especially seeing it now that I'm older I'm realizing just how amazing ALL of their outfits were from a point of fashion. If anyone has ever seen a designer's sketch of clothes it is evident that the humans that designers draw to draw their clothes on are quite similar to the (unrealistic) body proportions of winx so I believe that's where they took the inspiration
And from the animation perspective, we like to exaggerate. Squish and squash, arcs, the principles of animation. Along with exaggerated proportions, they help sell visually and principally.
As a child, I never felt they were sexualised. My mind was very innocent to realise any of that. I loved the show which talked about fairies and witches with the whole aesthetic thingy ranging from soft pastel to dark gothic ones. The earlier seasons also had amazing storylines and an aura of mystery in them. The transformations were so cool! I was absolutely in love with their fairy dust bottles in their enchantix forms. All around, it's a great show and I still love it as an adult!
@@LisaFevral yeah I don't feel they are sexualised. Their outfits became more modest over time. But all along I loved their style. They were always fashionable and cute. I think a lot depends on the mentality of the person watching it. To pervs, everyone appears to be sexualised. And, btw the outfit of Stella you wore is what I expected to see in Fate...not some dark gothic castle with drab designs and equally dark themes and story.
I didn’t think it was sexual when I was little until my older male cousin pointed out they were all naked during their transformations as the clothes appeared on them which I just couldn’t unsee
I love Winx for the diversity and positive portrayal of having feminine coded aesthetics still be badass. HALF of the Winx are coded as POC and are still girly and badass, I think Tecna is my favourite because other franchises would have her be "a tomboy" or something but naw, she's a "girly girl" and owns it and still is badass
I used to think they all were from different continents, so 5/6 were foreign to me (and Tecna was an alien since people from Oceania don't have natural purple hair 😅 I know they're all aliens, but little me didn't get the note )
Omg, I'm so glad you mentioned how important the choreography is in fight scenes. This is one of the reasons why I CAN NOT force myself to watch the latest Winx seasons. Almost all fight scenes are like: 1. Barely any movement and spells traveling with a speed of a snail. 2. "Oh no! Our magic doesn't work!" This is so annoying. They are supposed to be the most powerful fairies at this point and their magic keeps not working xD
To be fair, the fights have never been very good. They used to use a much more diverse range of spells instead of just shooting beams at each other, but no one ever dodged at all. I remember one of the first fights in the series where the trix corner the winx in an ally in magix. Darcy surrounds Musa by controlling some cars, and instead of flying away to escape them Musa just…faints for no reason?? And falls to the ground so Darcy can crush her.
34:42 I remember this one ! Stella asked Flora to cast a spell on her to hide her monster appearance to Brandon. And instead Flora explained the situation to Brandon, he was so supportive !
@@LisaFevral the version I watched the spell was about seing her as she was 9n the inside, so he still saw her as beautiful, the spell wore out tho, so from a certain moment he was already seing her as the "green frog" but never said anything because he liked her just the same.
A note for international fans is that the Winx Club is also unique in being an Italian production. Italy doesn't have big-budget animation studios, and even the shows who got some traction were only popular either locally or at the max in Europe. A success like this, reaching overseas, was incredible with the little budget they had back then compared to North American productions, and it's also the reason they eventually had to sell rights to Nickelodeon (main reason for the changes from s5 onward)
Yeah, Valtor is especially messed up. Also, I am somewhat shoked that what he did to Stella managed to get to a kid's show. He disfigured her and took the steps so that her own father would be brainwashed into not recognizing her and thinking she's a monster.
Honestly one of my favourite scenes was when the girls were in the omega dimension and Stella was the only one keeping them all alive, she was worn out and tired but still kept going for her friends. It created a sort of hopelessness but also showcased that Stella DOES care about her friends and will do ANYTHING to keep them safe
48:44 Something really interesting that I don't see brought up very often is that Valtor blinding Aisha is particularly fucked up when you remember that it was established in season 2 that Aisha is afraid of the dark...
Last I checked it was specifically a fear of being left alone/abandoned. Still hits just as hard though cuz you can't confirm if you're alone or not without hearing the people around you if you're blind
I never compared myself to cartoon bodies when I was a child, but from a character design perspective I think diverse body types would've given them more interesting and personal designs :3
I love how drastically Bradon's style changes from Season 1 to Season 3. It's like Stella insisted on buying him some clothes xD Or maybe the reason his Season 1 outfit doesn't suit him is that he was still posing as Sky and so dressed extra preppy because he thought that would make the disguise more convincing?
Since it's clear you don't like Riven, here's my hot take on him. He was a good character in season 1 and 2. There's nothing wrong with him being this douchebag character at the beginning of the show, it gives him space to grow, and it's clear that by the end of season 1 he had learned his lesson and was changing. In season two, his character's obstacle was being open, especially with Musa, and them learning to trust each other, which again by the end of the season, had been accomplished. My problems with Riven start in season 3, which it's rare that I'll say I have any problems with season 3, but this is one of the few. My problem with Riven season 3 and onward is that all of his development is backtracked, and he goes back to being a douche, like the previous two seasons didn't happen
I’m a big Riven supporter, too. Deep down he’s a really good guy, and the writers screwed him over in terms of development. Musa also wasn’t innocent since she was also an abuser in the relationship, and she became much worse later on as well. The writers continued making unnecessary drama and tried to force them together when we all know that they should not be together. They were both toxic to each other. Period. They would’ve been a healthy couple if they didn’t write them like that. Riven could’ve had issues and not been abusive. Musa was only returning what was given to her, but she was mean to her friends.
I remember a time when everybody praised Musa & Riven for being the “Real” relationship in the group when,,, no. Riven & Musa were toxic as hell for each other and would routinely start fights with each other out of nowhere. It’s disappointing that the show never moved on from this with them and just kept them the same over the years. Musa should have gotten the Aisha treatment at this point and get a new boyf(or girlf 👀)
Even when I was a kid I knew that their relationship just didn't make sense. They had very sweet scenes than meaningless absurd fights. Their relationship was the most 'unreal one'. I think they were a wasted couple. I wish I could've seen them have actual developmet. - I wish they gave Riven a backstory. And a personality. (Because he was never really his own person. He was Darcy's fling, Musa's boyfriend and Sky's rival.) - I wish they had an actual fight with a reason (not many meaningless fights/a fight in which none of them was really wrong) in the begining of a season (ex season 3). I know season 3 already had so much but if they stayed apart for a long time and had time to solve the problem it would made that scene where Riven was turned to rock more impactful.
49:39 I'm so glad someone finally saw the potential that the live action winx had, usualy people only complain about the outfit (fair enought) but forget about the unique worldbuilding/magic system that is a mix of fantasy and sci-fi as well as the genuinely interresting plotpoint that would have worked for a more adult live action. So glad someone finally said it ToT
@@LisaFevral facts! i wasn't expecting a pure copy of the og show but changing every single aspect from character's personality/dynamic to the lore/magic system and worldbuilding to even the aesthetic made the live action unrecongizable to the og. And the fact that they only keep the idea of ''mc find out they have magic and wants to find out who they are'' is a bummer coz that the plotline of every fantasy show ever ( which is fine) but it the characters, the world and subplots that make this basic story idea have it own flavor. Fate could of been an opportunity to fix issues that where in the og show like giving more depth to the specialist's character and their dynamic with the other winx beside their gf and low key they could of just condense main plotpoints and character arcs from season 1-3 and it would be great. long story short the live action is sad but whats more sad is seeing the missed potential of what it could have been. also thank u for this deep dive, i'll definitely look out for part 2 >w
I definitely agree, they just made the most generic show ever that they could name something else and it would have nothing in common with the original show. Adaptations should be different, but they should at least have the essence of the original
About Sky's parents being against Bloom: Sky's father is the reason why Domino was attacked by the ancestral witches (Movie 2) and basically he has so much emotional guilt that he's willing to let his son suffer for him (yes Eraklyon sucks)
Its the Movie 2 explaination. But before they created the movie, the reason why he is mean was simply, that Bloom is like a savage in the palace. She behaved in the wrong way while being around royalty. They were kind of disgusted by her and also felt like they are above Bloom and she is below them
@@aptalsandvic5355 She thought Diaspro was one of the Trix trying to deceive her. Plus, the way Diaspro acted didn’t help her case. And also, to find out that she was basically a side-chick was probably traumatizing for her.
@@mmgs1148 But by season 2, they know she is a princess and yet, they still treat her like shit. Sure, she has no etiquette but that's not her fault and you cannot just belittle another's planet ONLY (at that time) royalty, that's being a bad diplomat. Plus, by guilt, and for his friendship with Oritel and Marion, he should have been more understanding
That show is good if you watch it in the perspective of it being a completely different show to the winx club, but I'm annoyed they tried to call it that because it's completely different to the OG show
44:55 I haven't watched Winx club in a long time, but I always kinda assumed that Daphne sent Bloom into the future and that the fall of Domino actually happened about 100 or more years ago. This would explain why everybody aged so much, why the ancestral witches are called the "ancestral" witches, and why nobody truly remembers Domino or Daphne. Why would someone connect a random 16-year-old girl to a baby that should have died 100 years ago? etc. Though, I don't know if younger me made the time-travel up. Really loved your deep dive!
Yeah I was considering that, but they sometimes referred to that battle, or the fall of domino, as something that happened 16/17 years ago, and sometimes as hundreds of years, so I wish they would be more consistent haha
I also thought it was like, 100 years, cause the Trix are suppouse to be "the descendants" of the 3 witches, and they also seems to be older then the winx (like, they seems to be almost graduating, sinse they are so powerful), so, they can be the descendants of the "super old wiches" by being that age, and if they are older then bloom, how can the witches be dead for only 16 years?
An important thing to consider is the physical stuff the characters are doing, which is a mixture of dodge ball and intermediate gymnastics. Most guys within the specialist's age group who do those kind of sports and are in that age group will develop a pack. In my redesign, I play with do play a bit with the shoulder widths, but realistically, yeah, those guys will accumulate quite that bit of muscles.
Seasons 1 to 3 they felt like actual characters, it felt natural and somewhat relatable. The seasons after that kinda turned them into icons. Inconsistent or a hollow shell of what they used to be -- marionettes to what's 'convenient' to the writers at the time. They can suddenly do everything without prior knowledge.. stuff like that. I'm trying to see everything after season 3 like an alternate reality to the original timeline haha. Also, I remember watching the Believix transformations when I was 11 and I was literally blown away! It's such a shame that even with this beautiful transformation form, they still manage to outweigh the pros with the number of cons. I watched seasons 4 and onwards way later in life. Even the movie didn't get my time of day when I was younger. The real Winx to me are seasons 1 to 3 and it still remains my favorite childhood show
I agree with you. I no longer go past season 3 when watching Winx Club. Everything just feels different after that, and not in a good way, including season 4. I just watch seasons 1 - 3 and call it a day.
I give mercy to the first movie lol and end my re-watching with it, after i complete s1-s3. It feels like a good closure for a winx marathon, bloom has her enchantix completed and gets her parents back. I also have mixed feelings about s4, the nick touch is really visible in it and thats why i dont include it in my rewatching experience, it is visible that it was not planned at first and for example bloom healing powers go poof and she cant save nabu.
36:44 Me too ! For exemple : Bloom enjoys drawing (it is only show in less than 5 episodes but oh well), Helia writes poems and Musa sings and plays music. There could have been an episode of them doing some kind of project together.
35:15 In the books (that are exclusive to France ?) Nabu never stalked Aisha and instead they met randomly while ordering the same stuff at a restaurant or a bar (I don't really remember). Then they befriend each other, fall in love and while discussing discover the arranged mariage thingy. It is made through several books and I think this way of introducing Nabu is one of the reason I had a crush on him.
Omg this is perfect, can't wait for pt2. Yeah, compared to the cartoon, fate was really disappointing. When it was announced, i was sooo exited. The cartoon had so much mature themes, that they couldn't fully flesh out, due to it being a kids show. Valtor, being an immortal being playing three 18 year old girls, riven and musas toxic relationship, death and loss of close ones. They even go as far as Nabu's death and what a toll it takes on Aisha. Like being enraged and vengeful right afterwards, causing her to split up with her friends, overcoming it and dealing with loss, and eventually, realising that life goes on and opening up to the possibility of dating someone else. Like this is proper hardcore stuff. It is beyond me, how Netflix dropped the ball so bad
And unpopular opinion, I like the visual design of believix more that enchantix 😂. Also, not gonna lie, valtor and the black circle are kinda at fault for my teenage sexual awakening
also that storyline with sky being uncomfortable with Avalon giving Bloom so much unwarranted attention and kind of grooming her could've been expanded more, that Tecna enchantix situation with being lost in the Omega dimension... there's SO MUCH that could be used from the original show to be explored in a more open, uncensored way
winx was my favorite because it showed feminine characters fighting baddies while being feminine but MORE IMPORTANTLY had dark feminine characters! i LOVED the trix as a kid and i still do as a adult! the way that the villains were also close friends that had great hair and makeup and outfits with transformations of their own had me in a chokehold as a child since i wasn't the girly girly style as some of the core winx girls
THANK YOU for mentioning the timeline thing with bloom it was driving me nuts even as a 10 year old! This was such a great deep dive (with beautiful matching looks too??) and i really enjoyed learning why exactly this show has stuck with me to this day. Also #justice for my girl techna she had so much potential and such a unique aestetic :(
yeah thy kept jumping around as to how many years passed ALL the time, it's frustrating ahaha and I'm glad it was an enjoyable video to watch haha Tecna is an icon
37:15 I love this topic here about interactions between winx and specialists outside of the couples, I always wanted more of it and I loved seeing the small bits of it like in season 3 the eraklyon episode when flora gets attack by a dragon and I think Brandon and riven carry her to safety and in season 2 flora and Brandon’s interactions in the diaspora rescue episode, there was so much potential for the show to show more friendship between the cast, I wish we got more of in the this era, i couldn’t really stomach watching winx past season 4 and will hold season 1 - 3 in my heart forever because it truly was such a great show
perfectly stated! the winx and the specialists interact so much to the point where it's kinda strange why there wasn't more interactions and friendships outside the couples. i would LOVE to see that happen in season 9
Im late to this but I LOVE those moments too and for some reason the friendship between Flora and Sky is one I seem to remember very well even though I dont recall specific moments for them
The fact that winx fate could've copy pasted every single thing into the live version and we would still eat it UP but decided to do absolutely nothing
I’m so glad you talked about the 5 year program! We could’ve seen them grow from 16-21 naturally. I didn’t like that the movie had them graduate at the end of the first movie. And you’re right, when the movie was in the works the series was green lit for another season. They definitely could’ve tied up loose ends about the Valtor arc a lot better! The series finale could’ve ended with sky and Bloom getting married instead of two movies where he proposes to her twice 🤦🏾♀️ AND NABU DIDN’T NEED TO DIE!!
They also could’ve axed the engagement from the movie, if that was too much for the show(which makes sense, marriage does make it unrelatable), like they had the option to just remove that scene before releasing!
i wish we had gotten a GOOD live action of winx. there was so much room for the outfits and the world building. loonas butterfly comeback looked more themed by winx than whatever winx the fate saga was lmao. i’m still sulking over it haha. but GOD we were so lucky to grow up with a show like this. im 95% sure this show is what made up half of my personality. this video is literally top tier. i love these long in-depth videos you do!! 🤍🤍
When I was a kid and watched Winx I didn't think much about representation, archetypes, their clothing being possibly explicit. All I knew was that the girls were cool and fashionable at the same time, and they were never afraid of being themselves
You just have unlocked a core memory for me! 😅😂 I had completely forgotten how hurt I felt for Aisha when she first received her enchantix but remained blind. I had to ask my mom to comfort/hug me cuz I just felt so sad 😅😂 💕🥺 smol me loved this show... I'm just so happy now to know someone loves the show this much. And with such passion and details! Truly amazing! I always fully enjoy watching your videos. Winx related or not 💕
That Aisha enchantix and Flora sacrificing herself for her sister and getting enchantix are my core memories like i have not watched this show in so long yet i vividly remember them and it still makes me sad
as a girl who was and still is a fan of winx and who deals with an ed, i don't really have strong feelings about the unrealistic bodies either tbh even though i wish there had been more diversity in terms of people's figures on screen - just like there was in terms of ethnicity - and even though i do see where people who do have strong feelings about it come from, i, particularly, don't feel affected or triggered by this lack of diversity nor by the disproportionality of their bodies... but that's just my experience on a similar (i think??) note, i'm glad the girls weren't THAT sexualized (from what i can remember). the clothes are soooo pretty and whimsical and suit their characters so well! it's not like on top of the short skirts and crop tops, creators put them in provocative poses and creepy situations, thank goodness hjdjfkekfk
yeah I've had my own issues with body image too, and I remember that some things were not good for me, but winx was too far off from reality with just HOW tiny their waists are and stuff like that, kinda like Bratz with their massive heads, so it makes it easy to not compare bc they are not right proportions anyway. yeah I think regardless of how short the outfits are, they were made the way that they were made to appeal to kids, and to aesthetics, rather than anything sexual! so I agree 100%!
I dont think I consciously did it, but looking back I think it did effect me in the way i imagined my future self, cos they were teens, so it made me want to be like that as a teen, but in fairness it wasn't JUST the winx. Also ngl, it kind of bothers me that all the people (at least the ones who make videos) say it didn't bother them when most of them are skinny anyways... So like, you're almist there lol. Ofc maybe not everyone was like that as a kid, butyou know what I mean
@@Aisha_Luv Heyo don't gatekeep talking about weight and eating disorders dude. I wasn't going to respond bc your comment is so old but have you maybe considered that those "skinny girls" are that way BECAUSE of the issues you are trying to discuss? Silencing victims of the issue is NOT how to handle this. I starved myself due to input from media, those around me, and my own mother. There were so many variables that I look back on and cringe because I recognize their unhealthy impact on me as a child that led to what I did to my body. Should I not be part of the conversation over what types of portrayals actually affected me, just because when I did it it "worked", and I didn't die? Honestly sorry if this seems harsh but you clearly don't recognize the insidiousness of your comment and how you're trying to silence based on their perceived weight. Which is literally discrimination. TLDR: Maybe the fact that, as you say: "all the people (at least the ones who make videos) say it didn't bother them when most of them are skinny anyways" is BECAUSE they've had experiences with that sort of thing. Don't judge someone's input based on their weight!
The Hat Fight is actually one of my favorite Riven/Musa moments! So basically, Musa feels insecure in their relationship and she's way too bad at vulnerability to just ask for reassurance, so she's fishing for a compliment. She wants to hear 'you look great in it' or something like that. Riven doesn't get the hint (I'm resisting the urge to write my essay on Riven being autistic, but he consistently doesn't catch implications like this) so he responds 'it looks cool.' Musa gets mad because that's a very casual, disinterested response, and it's the kind of thing you would say to a guy friend- it doesn't validate her as His Girl, like she wanted In Musa's mind she can't just communicate her needs clearly, because if she says 'I need affection' and Riven gives her affection that won't 'count,' because she 'gave him the answer.' So she's testing him instead. And he failed because he couldn't read her mind lol (I hope this doesn't sound like I'm hating on Musa, I LOVE her and I think this aspect of her character is really interesting! But I do think she shares the blame for their relationship problems)
Thank you, that's a great read of that scene! In general I think most of Musa and Riven's issues in seasons 1-3 are similar to this, communication issues that stem from both of them struggling with being open and vulnerable (Riven more so than Musa but Musa definitely as well). Given both of their personalities this is pretty natural for them to struggle with and I would've loved for them to grow together and learn how to be vulnerable with each other and show an improved relationship over time. I don't know how bad it gets in the later seasons because season 1-3 is the only canon to me but I'm not a fan of just saying "they struggle, they should just break up" because arcs with character growth are way more interesting than just getting Musa together with someone who's perfect right from the start. In season 1-3 they somewhat have this arc and that's why I'm a big fan of their relationship and see a lot of potential there.
second season is my fav for sure, the first (or is it second?) episode of it were the trix are in a villain peace asylum and stormy fights with the radio irrevocably altered my sense of humour
YESSS, i love s2 but its so underrated, people belittle it because the charmix has only "accessories" and no new outfit and it stands in echantix' shadow, but storyline of s2 is better than in s3 imo, the path Darkar has to go through to get codex is more cohesive, every plot point is perfectly tied to each other and there is more mystery like when you are not sure if helia is a good guy, you suspect him of summoning the monster
I wish the people creating shows or movies with fandoms were as passionate about the characters and plots and designs like this woman here. Its shame in the film industry money is the main focus over creating genuine beautiful art
The girls in Adventure Time often switch up their outfits. Just looks at Bubblegum and Marceline, in later seasons and spin offs they look so fashionable and gorgeous!
Being italian and watching Winx in it's og language was such an experience. I feel the jokes just flew better, tried to watch it in english and it does feel out of sync/rushed. My childhood was made of collecting figurine albums and small dolls from potato chips and surprise eggs, was very disappointed when I watched FATE to see how watered down the fashion and glitter was..being an adult is not supposed to be boring and serious.
My favorite fashion designs in Winx Club are Musa and Aisha. Musa for how her fashion is a reference to East Asian culture and streetwear. Aisha as she looks like a baddie and her army skirt in Season 2/3 is cute.
i think short outfits are also good for fighting in the winx world, because of the flexibility you get without too much fabric in the way and air resistance =better aerodynamics (physics wooo)
@@sarasthoughts that makes sense, cause if you think of the world “stellar” in English, it’s also related to stars! :D gotta love languages and how intertwined they are!
I think what defines what makes winx great and many other cartoons like it is that their goal was to DO something, not BE something. It wanted to tell a fun story for girls and the whole family to enjoy, to make fun worlds and designs. Meanwhile, the Fate reboot doesn't do anything, all it does is try to be "mature" and edgy without adding any actual substance and how the later seasons attempting to be more kid friendly and just made the story dumb and contrived. It's like fashion or finding one's own aesthetic: attempting to do something carries far more intelligence and individuality than trying to be something or like someone else.
That was, in fact, a very necessarily deep dive! I'm very thankful to you for speaking about all the things that made Winx so iconic, all the things I always felt about the show but just couldn't express because it has been so overwhelmingly good for me as a child when it was airing. You made me want to rewatch it again Winx didn't give me body image issues, their design looked too unrealistic to compare myself to I wanna say how well-written Aisha is. She's so fun and caring and gentle but can be fierce and passionate, she doesn't wanna marry a random guy even for the sake of her kingdom, she understands the responsibility and has her own free will, and how she felt in the group at first is so relatable. I also think she's one of few characters who feel... physical? Like, she's very athletic, loves dancing and goes through a lot of physical struggle during the series, which is rare for a fantasy world relying mostly on magic and unrealistic acrobatics of the specialists. Her relationship with Nabu was my favourite of them all, and speaking of Nabu, he's SUCH A COOL GUY OMG, if he was introducted before Helia he would be my top man. It was such a heart-wrenching experience when he died. I wasn't prepared for that, and even hoped Bloom would heal him or they would somehow revive him... Why of all guys that had to rid us of the coolest one... Also, to add to the importance of Winx for young girls, it also was the show that inspired me to pursue career in animation. Somehow of all the animated movies and shows I loved since childhood, Winx was the first one to do so. So I studied animation and have been working as a storyboard artist for 3 years now c: Thanks again for the video, instant like and sub, will be seeing more of your content! Hope you're doing okay on chemo
Thank you so much, I’m glad you enjoyed the video! And also I love when ppl get inspired to become artists bc of winx😭 and I have finished chemo and so far I’m cancer free🥰
i love how creative the attacks were in the first 2 seasons, you can tell that they are actively thinking during battle and not just throwing glitter bombs at people (uhem, season 5). Moreover its nice to see that they incorporated a certain novice-ness to their attacks. Like yes they are cool fighter fairies but they are also still students that were exploring their powers. Their powers grow through charmix and later enchantix, also increasing their abilities and range. It was a well-paced growth that was visible and well-earned. In the later seasons it just becomes completely baseless, they get so many new transformations with so many bad attacks that you cant tell the difference between them. It takes away the anticipation of having a new transformation.
14:15 new to discovering this channel so watching the back catalogue but I am so so happy that she mentioned the male characters when talking about unrealistic body proportions. Male beauty standards can be just as harsh and oppressive as female it just doesn’t get as much attention as men are expected to stay silent about these things and are seen as feminine or “gay” for expressing concerns about body image. It’s rare but extremely refreshing for people to acknowledge that
Im having a Winx marathon rewatching every season (knowing i didnt really grew up with the cartoon, i joined the fandom in 2015 and only watched the early seasons in 2019) and i really love listening to other people's opinions through nostalgia! Brings in a different perspective, but overall, i basically agree with everything you said. Especially about the color palettes, and singularity of each outfit as well. The fashion in Winx Club is just top tier
Wow what an awesome deep dive! I would've never noticed some of the things you mentioned since it's been years from the show airing! I gotta agree with every point made and I have to say, one of the best things about this cartoon in the first three seasons was that even if it was a dominantly feminine show, I vividly remember boys my age watching it with their sisters and absolutely loving it. It was so inclusive in a childs mind, we all had a favourite character, favourite transformation. After watching this vid I wish they made it more y/a, I wish it wasn't a kids show cause the team that worked on the first 2-3 seasons DELIVERED. And when it comes to outfits, I loved every single one of them, like I can't remember a single outfit that I can point out as a bad one, which leaves a massive positive feeling, i vividly remember all the glitter all the shine as a found memory! I have to comment on the "skimpy outfits" comment that you've came across and mentioned, I think that that is just sick, and the world wants to sexualise everything today but the show doesn't do that in the slightest. The outfits are cute and fun and flowing perfectly with the cyber fantasy aesthetic that the world has and I wouldn't have it any other way! Oh and your Bloom outfit, and the orange wig! GOD IT LOOKS GORGEOUS ON YOU! I was stunned! Since I haven't watched winx after the 4th season, I can't wait for your Part 2 to see what they did with this masterpiece of a cartoon! I know it goes bad since it gets even more kid friendly, but still can't wait to see which points you make, since this one was so fun to watch! 💕🧁
Honestly I wish it was more y/a too, but also it’s so perfect for a live action adaptation, it HURTS that fate is so so bad when it was MADE to be y/a! I hate that people specialize things all the time, those outfits are great regardless of how short they are or whatever! Thank you🥰 I even got grey/blue contacts for that ahahahahh Yeah the next one is gonna be ranty ahahh
I used to love Winx but the moment they added fully 3D animated scenes in the show I left and never came back. I think the 3D style looks horrible. Great video ♡
Holy. Just hearing that 4 seconds of the intro made me have to seek it out and hear it multiple times. So much nostalgia in both the music and the video. I remember watching this show over and over again with my two younger sisters. I never realised I actually like the show that much xD
Hello! I love what you said about season 4! As much as I still love season 4, I hate that they dumbed down Enchantix and made it so weak against the wizards, like what happened to Blooms dragon flame being so powerful? The fairy dust?? I’m totally down for a new transformation, but like you said an alternative that is only temporary when it comes to certain situations. Originally season 5 was supposed to have them revert back to Enchantix which is why we see them flying in it at the end of season 4, but Nick took over season 5 onward and scrapped that idea:( a bummer because Enchantix was hands down the best one.
So they made schools on the ground for both fairies and witches who can fly, but the only ones who don't get a school that's floating above cloud level... They're goona die man wtf
With everything that Winx had to offer, I feel like the live action should have been picked up by HBO and gotten the same treatment/production level as Game Of Thrones!
The early transformation outfits and sequences in this show were pretty awesome. They felt unique to each girl. I really enjoyed how each girl had a different outfit while still looking like they all matched. The unrealistic body proportions didn't really negatively effect me, but it would have been nice to see the winx with more variety as that would have made them more interesting from a design standpoint. As for Roxy's fairy form, they really botched that up. I know they wanted her to match with the winx, but it makes no sense. And they could have easily solved this plot hole too: by explaining in universe that Roxy subconsciously based her fairy form on Believix because that was the fairy form she was familiar with. As for my favourite of your outfits, I am torn between your Bloom, Musa, and Flora looks! Edit: I also would have really loved to see transformations from the professors! Faragonda is stated to have Enchantix, yet we never see a single transformation form her!
I love that you mention the heteronormativity of it all. Upon rewatching the series as a young adult I noticed a few things: in the first season there could've easily been a love traingle between Mirtha, Lucy and Flora. It's still kinda hinted anyway, and even in the outro you can see each girl has their boyfriends matching with them, and Flora has Mirtha (tho in pumpkin form); but mostly due to the type of relationship Lucy and Mirtha have it feels as if they were dating each other, and that's why Lucy felt so betrayed at the end when Mirtha chooses Alfea and with that she sorta chooses Flora over Lucy. Then, when Aisha is introduced we see how she connects and gets along with Musa. Now here, I do think the intention was more clearly a friendship but, again, upon rewatching you can see how well they bonded and how much of a HEALTHIER relationship it would've been for Musa. At some point, I even thought they would end up together. Anyway, loved your deep analysis, your commitment to the looks and overall all the points you made.
For the timeline loophole, I rationalized it as Daphne putting Bloom on earth 200-300 years in the future. Meaning that Bloom transcended not only space, but time as well. This would make more sense as to why nobody except Faragonda remembers Domino and why nobody realized that Bloom was Domino’s princess (because Domino fell so long ago that most people don’t think about it much).
Thanks for pointing out that Brandon and Stella fighting a whole season because of jealousy makes no sense, this has bothered me for years and now I feel validated
Riven's hair in the movie still has me in stitches. It looks like purple grass, like what even is that texture 🤣 Great analysis on the golden age of Winx (and S4)! The following seasons are such a huge downgrade and disappointment so it's really good to see such an in-depth review of the show when it was still good, by someone who is clearly fond of it. ❤️
Your Stella outfit is so cute, I love it! Honestly, when you brought up that the girls were supposed to be in school for five years I was like HUH. The creators really shot themselves in the foot with that one because they basically did a soft reboot of the show and made the girls 16 again in Season 7 as if no one would notice. They could've kept them at Alfea until Season 5, and then like you said, Season 6 could've had the Season 4 plotline. I also agree with what you said about the politics within the show that are never addressed in the cartoon, but could've been in Fate, I truly hate it here. Speaking of Fate, they really impossible with that one - I like Riven in the cartoon now because live-action Riven was just that insufferable.
Thank you🥰 Right?? They should’ve stuck with 5 years, and then mature with the audience instead of going backwards! So many missed opportunities with fate😭 and their riven… him saying “she’s so thirsty for your d*ck, it’s embarrassing” HAUNTS me in my sleep
And then in the French dub (that is very faithful to the OG italian version) they say Alphea will be their home for the next 3 years. Winx english dubs are wild. I never thought it would be possible to make Riven even worse. Like in Winx S1 he helped the Trix because they pulled out a master plan to manipulate him. In Fate it was "Why should I help you ?" "You're a guy and I'm hot." "Seems fair to me." Made me want for him to get killed in the finale.
2:40 I think that’s Francis, Aisha’s roomate. She’s the fairy of laughter you mention later, and she’s in multiple random scenes in their dorms with Layla or Musa or randomly talking to the girls. They never really introduce her to the audience, but she’s always around in the background after season 2. Idk why she’s wearing Bloom’s pajamas, but it explains why she’s holding Piff. But I don’t know if it’s bloom’s room or not. The show has a lot of other animation mistakes like this though.
that's what I thought, but they also spoke about Bloom sleeping, as if they were talking about the girl in bed, so I can't tell if they made a mistake with the hair, or with the outfit, but it's definitely a mistake either way ahaha
omg girl i have been SO excited to watch this video!! u truly are such a good content creator, and u inspire me as a person who studies Styling A LOT!! all of the looks u pulled together for this, the research, the editing, it’s just amazing.. alsoo did u know all of the enchantix designs are inspired by certain flowers? i found out like a month ago and god it made me even more obsessed with enchantix 🧎♀️ i think u would find this veery interesting too, so here is every character listed with their little individual special flower: Tecna: Violet Flora: Lily Stella: Orchid Musa: Chinese lantern flower Layla: Iris Bloom: Cornflower
57:41 i have a theory myself with stella's dress. if you can see the yellow on the bottom of the dress and the more pink-ish in the top, are sunrise colors. sunrise symbolize rebirth, growths, new beginnings, THE COMING OF LIGHT, and some endings. Despise what happened at the princess dance is cute seeing how the dress represents kind of a new Stella rising.
wow this video was everything!! i am floored how much time and effort went into this, thank you lisa!!!! i have great respect for your hard work and analytical skills, especially bc you are dealing with your cancer treatment at the same time and i can't even imagine how hard that must be. i greatly appreciate your perspective on a show that i have so much nostalgia for, i think i'm definitely due for a rewatch (at least of the first few seasons...) i'm already excited for the follow up video, until then take care!
My interpretation of witches vs fairies is that it’s because they draw their powers from opposing sources (light and darkness) and it’s probably a social issue too Witches seem to see fairies as bubbly weak “pretty girls” with no backbones and fairies seem to see witches as crude, dark, mean, etc. I mean Flora was laughed at when at Cloud Tower for answering a question with “caring for a cute animal” when the witch answer was to harm it and harvest its tears for spells I think the factor in determining who wants to be a witch/fairy depends on what realm they are from, what their powers are, and how they were raised
Y’know, I’d like to see those that break the fairy witch specialist wizard binary. Like, male fairies. Witch fairies, female specialists, or heck, people who use both light and dark magic. Or neutral magic.
1:57:50 They actually did exactly that! The Winx left Earth in their Enchantix form in the last episode to showcase that it’s still the highest fairy form and that they’re still guardian fairies! The only problem is: Season 5 onwards completely ruined that and created dozens of new plot holes (I mean they simply rebooted the show let’s be honest). I think the fact that they left Gardenia in Enchantix was one of the most beautiful endings ever actually! I loved your video so much and I would love to see a video that covers all the season 1-4 looks! 😍
I think they call Believix a higher form in the season, but they do actually leave in the enchantix form so I think they might've made a mistake when calling believix a higher form of transformation haha and I'm glad you liked the video💛
ik I am kinda late to the conversation but growing up loving winx club I am rlly glad to have found your video! And the aspect of the winx world and its aesthetic rlly reminds me of just another childhood cartoon that I loved called Totally spies! It also combines femininity and power without having exaggerated violent weapons that we are so used to seeing but fun gadgets! like laser lipstick and those powder tins for communication! that's just genius!!
this deep dive was so necessary lol -- i was so entertained the entire way through as I had it on my second monitor as i worked on something else a little tedious and i laughed out loud at so many points musa, the fairy of music: doing something related to music riven: you're different you're changing .... boy😂🤣 when i was a kid i felt riven was so problematic at times, sometimes i felt he just needed to touch some grass, take deep breaths also season 3 gowns were everything, i agree 1000% i remember not caring at all about kiko's romance arc when i was a kid 😂😂 but something about the ridiculousness of everyone just pairing up into couples is so funny to me. my favorite ship in winx club was flora and helia. their dynamic is so wholesome, so 10/10 best couple in my childhood hehe thank you so much for this deep dive. winx club is one of my comfort shows, especially the older seasons, and i learned a lot from the way you broke it down! can't wait for part 2 💖💖
omg I'm so happy it wasn't boring to watch!! I was worried about that ahaha right??? riven is ridiculous, like most of her personality is related to music, so what is he on ahahaha it is quite silly, just everyone paired up ahaha Flora and Helia are a great healthy couple, that's true thank you for watching, and I'm glad it was enjoyable🥰🥰
it's nice watching these reviews of fans who genuinely grew up with it, just pointing out details that only someone who REALLY watched it can point out 😌 Looking forward to part 2 and your (justified) rants.
if my memory is not mistaken, Musa keeps triggering Riven into fights just to see if he really cares. I guess is the depiction of early 2000s preechment on young girls here in Italy: act needy and trick your man to find out if he cares. And I'm not saying it's right to do so, but I remember receiving the same advices from older girls, and I can relate seeing the same Musa-Riven dynamic multiple times in my older girlfriends' relationships.
i love this video omg. the looks, the thoroughness of the dive into every aspect of the show, the fact that your passion for it is clearly showing 😭😭 i just love it so much thank you for your great work!!
Despite being one of the more popular seasons, Season 4 felt like the black sheep of Winx The way everything was presented, the fact that is is the ONLY season without the Trix in it, the fact that the way Believix powers work in kind of a messed up way (Believix more like Sociopathix) Even thoughh it is largely flawed, I can't help but adore this season
57:03 OMG the season 3 gowns are beautiful and individualistic I love Musa’s gown so much and there’s even a cosplay of it and it’s so gorgeous it almost makes her look like a Disney Princess👸🏻🎐🏮🎀🎎💃🏻💄
I haven't watched Fate: The Winx Saga on Netflix yet in order to not destroy my childhood memories. Winx Club does literally not lack neither in plot nor in any other perspective, they could have made the series so much better, but they didn't grasp the opportunity when they should have.
I think they did a great job when they use the time as unsynchronised in both worlds. It’s a great way to seperate them from each other in my opinion. So the 16 years in earth equals more like ages in magical dimention. It explains why domino is so ancient and the teachers are older and no one knows about daphne
Okay i literally loved this video so much, you definitely project this obsession/passion for winx that i relate to 100% and it feels amazing to listen to you notice every detail .
Which outfit is your fave?🦋
so far i saw the bloom and tecna ones i think you look amazing in both
Bloom outfit was spot on 😭👏
Stella is cool af
Flora is the prettiest 🥰🥰 but your version of Stella’s outfit is too iconic to not be the best one 😂💕
yeah I think that the Flora look is the most flattering, but Stella is the most fun ahahah
the amount of missed opportunities fate had to become this global fantasy phenomenon netflix series will always haunt me. they had EVERYTHING yet they've done NOTHING for us winx fans.
Yeah, the way this could’ve been iconic and they just didn’t do a thing to make it that way
@@LisaFevral frrr 😭
EXACTLY EXACTLY LIKE IMAGINE IF IT HAD THE WRITING AS WORLD OF WINX…and not EVEN. the source material of the original was enough!
@@Valentineatelier EXACTLY, THEY LITERALLY HAD EVERYTHING HOW COULD SOMEONE MESS IT UP 😭
@@chelseabaker1994 RIGHT?!
@@LisaFevral exactly 🐸🐸🐸
i felt like the body standard thing never really affected me as a kid because winx was never about that. their beauty was never the main storyline or message, even in their relationships with the specialists. instead it was about friendship and bravery and selfdevelopment and maybe cool outfits too :)
yeah, it was never the focus, so maybe thats why we didn't think about it much
I did notice it as a kid, but I also noticed that IRL you would have 0 ribs or organs if you were as slim as them, so 🙄
I did notice that they didn't look like me / that I would look ridiculous wearing the same things as them. I do remember am episode where Stella loses her beauy though but it's blurry
@@ivanaerard9452 yes, that's kinda sad though. What they wear sometimes looks so grand, but if 'we' wear it, it just looks like a costume. 😬
They were glittery and brightly colores, and while short they always seem more like something that would appeal to a little girl than to a grown man
yeah, that's exactly what I think too!
@@annaisntcool maybe i notice it more cause im a man

@@animosity2634 same. Helia is also a top-tier man.
Bloom had a personality in Season 1 then they just kinda gave up, I really wished they explored more into her interest in drawing and reading, she was much more curious and flawed...then she became "perfect"
Ikr it makes no sense that they removed all of her personality
The main part of her personality was being clumsy because of coming from the non-magical world. When she got used to Magix dimensions, it faded out.
@@mmgs1148 I strongly disagreed, in the pilot even on Earth in Gardina, she had way more of a personality (drawing, reading, feeling like she isn't respected enough, helping Stella despite having no idea what she is doing), just an all around more dynamic characted that got yeeted.
@@stuffwithsoph8264 She is brave and she still was at the end of the series, so that trait was not taken away from her
@@mmgs1148 Yeah but they all are, Bloom is a mary-sue s4-current. hell, even kinda s2-s3 but at least she has more lore to learn so is interesting
I know😭 I'm writing the second part of this review rn, and the fashion is so bad
@@LisaFevral that's awesome news! ✨✨
I'll patiently wait for part two!
Your analysis are 🔥
But does that mean the outfits automatically aren't sexualized? They definitely are. And I'm pretty sure a man designed it?
I only liked bloomix XD
Honestly, same!
All around, it's a great show and I still love it as an adult!
yeah I still don't think they were sexualized even now as an adult! and I agree with you on all the other points
Yea same, a child doesn't realize this kind of things
I didn’t think it was sexual when I was little until my older male cousin pointed out they were all naked during their transformations as the clothes appeared on them which I just couldn’t unsee
I love Winx for the diversity and positive portrayal of having feminine coded aesthetics still be badass. HALF of the Winx are coded as POC and are still girly and badass, I think Tecna is my favourite because other franchises would have her be "a tomboy" or something but naw, she's a "girly girl" and owns it and still is badass
yeah Tecna just likes a different aesthetic, but not quite a tomboy or anything thats true
I used to think they all were from different continents, so 5/6 were foreign to me (and Tecna was an alien since people from Oceania don't have natural purple hair 😅 I know they're all aliens, but little me didn't get the note )
what sucks tho is their lack of body diversity
@@ennasy7997 we don't need an obese fairy hunny
@@idkman290 agreed I feel like diff body shapes as in more curvy or muscular faries would be noice, but obese fairies wouldn't exist for sure
Omg, I'm so glad you mentioned how important the choreography is in fight scenes. This is one of the reasons why I CAN NOT force myself to watch the latest Winx seasons. Almost all fight scenes are like:
1. Barely any movement and spells traveling with a speed of a snail.
2. "Oh no! Our magic doesn't work!"
This is so annoying. They are supposed to be the most powerful fairies at this point and their magic keeps not working xD
yeah omg I really don't get it either, its quite hard to watch starting from season 5😭 sometimes even 4
I lost interest half way through S4, S1-3 will always be the best in terms of fighting and storyline.
And instead Flora explained the situation to Brandon, he was so supportive !
in the versions I watched the spell just didn't work! maybe different translations
@@LisaFevral the version I watched the spell was about seing her as she was 9n the inside, so he still saw her as beautiful, the spell wore out tho, so from a certain moment he was already seing her as the "green frog" but never said anything because he liked her just the same.
just proved he not a shallow guy and he loves her for her
Ikr what a man
this was so dramatic I remember watching this as a kid omg it had me hooked the whole episode through
A note for international fans is that the Winx Club is also unique in being an Italian production. Italy doesn't have big-budget animation studios, and even the shows who got some traction were only popular either locally or at the max in Europe. A success like this, reaching overseas, was incredible with the little budget they had back then compared to North American productions, and it's also the reason they eventually had to sell rights to Nickelodeon (main reason for the changes from s5 onward)
honestly the level of quality of the first three seasons considering how little of a budget they had is SO impressive
I thought since season 4?
蕾兒動畫舊版
They didn’t deep rights to Nick
I really wish Nick had stayed out of it. Nick ruined a really great show.
Yeah, Valtor is especially messed up. Also, I am somewhat shoked that what he did to Stella managed to get to a kid's show. He disfigured her and took the steps so that her own father would be brainwashed into not recognizing her and thinking she's a monster.
yeah, and he blinded Aisha while many people of Andros were mutated into monsters
@@LisaFevral this man was such a great vilain for winx club. I love him.

god these replies are beautiful
Honestly one of my favourite scenes was when the girls were in the omega dimension and Stella was the only one keeping them all alive, she was worn out and tired but still kept going for her friends. It created a sort of hopelessness but also showcased that Stella DOES care about her friends and will do ANYTHING to keep them safe
超仙靈天使的魔法瓶有第六個
48:44 Something really interesting that I don't see brought up very often is that Valtor blinding Aisha is particularly fucked up when you remember that it was established in season 2 that Aisha is afraid of the dark...
眼睛看不到了
Last I checked it was specifically a fear of being left alone/abandoned. Still hits just as hard though cuz you can't confirm if you're alone or not without hearing the people around you if you're blind
@nikki4803 your icon is super cute!!! is she from an anime? or is she a vtuber? reminds me of Glitter Force
I never compared myself to cartoon bodies when I was a child, but from a character design perspective I think diverse body types would've given them more interesting and personal designs :3
yeah I agree!
歐美的方式動漫綜合
I love how drastically Bradon's style changes from Season 1 to Season 3. It's like Stella insisted on buying him some clothes xD
Or maybe the reason his Season 1 outfit doesn't suit him is that he was still posing as Sky and so dressed extra preppy because he thought that would make the disguise more convincing?
I think it's both tbh ahah
Since it's clear you don't like Riven, here's my hot take on him. He was a good character in season 1 and 2. There's nothing wrong with him being this douchebag character at the beginning of the show, it gives him space to grow, and it's clear that by the end of season 1 he had learned his lesson and was changing. In season two, his character's obstacle was being open, especially with Musa, and them learning to trust each other, which again by the end of the season, had been accomplished. My problems with Riven start in season 3, which it's rare that I'll say I have any problems with season 3, but this is one of the few. My problem with Riven season 3 and onward is that all of his development is backtracked, and he goes back to being a douche, like the previous two seasons didn't happen
yeah that's my issue with him too, it's just back to his season 1 self, which makes no sense at all!
@@LisaFevral do you like red velvet 😭
@@LisaFevral great video btw ❤️
@@Mercy.Beloved yes
I remember a time when everybody praised Musa & Riven for being the “Real” relationship in the group when,,, no. Riven & Musa were toxic as hell for each other and would routinely start fights with each other out of nowhere. It’s disappointing that the show never moved on from this with them and just kept them the same over the years. Musa should have gotten the Aisha treatment at this point and get a new boyf(or girlf 👀)
honestly yeah, their relationship fights also made almost 0 sense it was so annoying
tecna and musa were right there I always loved them together as a kid and now I get why
@@cymbelinesgf mostly because Timmy was basically just nonexistent like ???? they fr fr forgot about his entire existence
One thing ill credit season 5 for is giving the Timmy and tecna screen time we somehow just didn't get as much, it was a wholesome ep for mr
He was Darcy's fling, Musa's boyfriend and Sky's rival.)
- I wish they had an actual fight with a reason (not many meaningless fights/a fight in which none of them was really wrong) in the begining of a season (ex season 3).
So glad someone finally said it ToT
there is SO MUCH that is unique about this series, it sucks the live action is nowhere near it
@@LisaFevral facts! i wasn't expecting a pure copy of the og show but changing every single aspect from character's personality/dynamic to the lore/magic system and worldbuilding to even the aesthetic made the live action unrecongizable to the og.
I’m an OG Winx fan (now aged 24) and to me nothing exists apart from season 1, 2 and 3.

About Sky's parents being against Bloom:
Sky's father is the reason why Domino was attacked by the ancestral witches (Movie 2)
and basically he has so much emotional guilt that he's willing to let his son suffer for him (yes Eraklyon sucks)
Ahhh, I haven’t seen the second movie yet! This would also be a great plot point for the live action y/a adaptation
Its the Movie 2 explaination. But before they created the movie, the reason why he is mean was simply, that Bloom is like a savage in the palace. She behaved in the wrong way while being around royalty. They were kind of disgusted by her and also felt like they are above Bloom and she is below them
Also didn't Bloom attack Diaspro in public for seemingly no reason? Yea that isn't a good first impression.
You’re giving the content we don’t deserve but desperately needed. The flavor
Fate the Winx Saga could never😔
I'm still so salty about that, it could've been an iconic y/a show😭
yes i comment all of my feeling on her first winx video
It would work, if they didnt emphasize a couple of times that the domino attack happened 16 years ago.
@@gisela_oliveira I think them being their descendants is only symbolic, like popes taking a name from a previous pope and continuing their mission
@@gisela_oliveira also, they are not dead by trapped in a prison-dimension
An important thing to consider is the physical stuff the characters are doing, which is a mixture of dodge ball and intermediate gymnastics. Most guys within the specialist's age group who do those kind of sports and are in that age group will develop a pack.
In my redesign, I play with do play a bit with the shoulder widths, but realistically, yeah, those guys will accumulate quite that bit of muscles.
yeah they train A LOT, so it makes sense
@@LisaFevral The girls too. However, in girls it often results in them being rather petite and have round, delicately muscled shoulders.
your redesign? have you perhaps finished it and posted it somewhere? :)
The real Winx to me are seasons 1 to 3 and it still remains my favorite childhood show
Yeah I literally think the same about their personalities shifting in later seasons
There could have been an episode of them doing some kind of project together.
yeah they kinda dropped the fact that bloom likes to draw pretty quickly
Now I'm imagining Musa singing a song written by Helia in a music video animated by Bloom and I need to write something about it.
@@lyraenza okay thats a pretty cool idea

Yeah that wouldve been so cool! Its sad the writers Just forgot about Blooms creativity..
35:15 In the books (that are exclusive to France ?) Nabu never stalked Aisha and instead they met randomly while ordering the same stuff at a restaurant or a bar (I don't really remember). Then they befriend each other, fall in love and while discussing discover the arranged mariage thingy. It is made through several books and I think this way of introducing Nabu is one of the reason I had a crush on him.
yeah I think that type of introduction is better ahah
@@helingunes958 '' miusa'nın şarkısı'' mıydı?
I'm pretty sure I read those or well started them (read a full one) but then realized it was based on the show, so I went to watch the show instead
Also, not gonna lie, valtor and the black circle are kinda at fault for my teenage sexual awakening
also that storyline with sky being uncomfortable with Avalon giving Bloom so much unwarranted attention and kind of grooming her could've been expanded more, that Tecna enchantix situation with being lost in the Omega dimension... there's SO MUCH that could be used from the original show to be explored in a more open, uncensored way
Yes
How can I like this more?
winx was my favorite because it showed feminine characters fighting baddies while
being feminine but MORE IMPORTANTLY had dark feminine characters! i LOVED the trix as a kid and i still do as a adult! the way that the villains were also close friends that had great hair and makeup and outfits with transformations of their own had me in a chokehold as a child since i wasn't the girly
girly style as some of the core winx girls
THANK YOU for mentioning the timeline thing with bloom it was driving me nuts even as a 10 year old! This was such a great deep dive (with beautiful matching looks too??) and i really enjoyed learning why exactly this show has stuck with me to this day. Also #justice for my girl techna she had so much potential and such a unique aestetic :(
yeah thy kept jumping around as to how many years passed ALL the time, it's frustrating ahaha and I'm glad it was an enjoyable video to watch haha Tecna is an icon
I know right? Lisa even talked about my headcanon that time on earth passess differently, but it's not entirely without flaws either.

37:15 I love this topic here about interactions between winx and specialists outside of the couples, I always wanted more of it and I loved seeing the small bits of it like in season 3 the eraklyon episode when flora gets attack by a dragon and I think Brandon and riven carry her to safety and in season 2 flora and Brandon’s interactions in the diaspora rescue episode, there was so much potential for the show to show more friendship between the cast, I wish we got more of in the this era, i couldn’t really stomach watching winx past season 4 and will hold season 1 - 3 in my heart forever because it truly was such a great show
yeah, I think it only makes sense that they would be pretty good friends, idk why it wasn't shown more!
perfectly stated! the winx and the specialists interact so much to the point where it's kinda strange why there wasn't more interactions and friendships outside the couples. i would LOVE to see that happen in season 9
Im late to this but I LOVE those moments too and for some reason the friendship between Flora and Sky is one I seem to remember very well even though I dont recall specific moments for them
The fact that winx fate could've copy pasted every single thing into the live version and we would still eat it UP but decided to do absolutely nothing
not gonna lie... I cried when I saw enchantix for the first time.
it´s still my absolute fav season and transformation!
The body proportion never bothered me but it would have been cool to have at least a little more variety
Yeah, I agree
I’m so glad you talked about the 5 year program! We could’ve seen them grow from 16-21 naturally. I didn’t like that the movie had them graduate at the end of the first movie. And you’re right, when the movie was in the works the series was green lit for another season. They definitely could’ve tied up loose ends about the Valtor arc a lot better! The series finale could’ve ended with sky and Bloom getting married instead of two movies where he proposes to her twice 🤦🏾♀️
AND NABU DIDN’T NEED TO DIE!!

@@nikolinapopovic5864 mine is stella's lol.. I remembered jer saving her parents
as a girl who was and still is a fan of winx and who deals with an ed, i don't really have strong feelings about the unrealistic bodies either tbh
even though i wish there had been more diversity in terms of people's figures on screen - just like there was in terms of ethnicity - and even though i do see where people who do have strong feelings about it come from, i, particularly, don't feel affected or triggered by this lack of diversity nor by the disproportionality of their bodies... but that's just my experience
on a similar (i think??) note, i'm glad the girls weren't THAT sexualized (from what i can remember). the clothes are soooo pretty and whimsical and suit their characters so well! it's not like on top of the short skirts and crop tops, creators put them in provocative poses and creepy situations, thank goodness hjdjfkekfk
yeah I've had my own issues with body image too, and I remember that some things were not good for me, but winx was too far off from reality with just HOW tiny their waists are and stuff like that, kinda like Bratz with their massive heads, so it makes it easy to not compare bc they are not right proportions anyway.
yeah I think regardless of how short the outfits are, they were made the way that they were made to appeal to kids, and to aesthetics, rather than anything sexual! so I agree 100%!

@@Aisha_Luv thank you
The Hat Fight is actually one of my favorite Riven/Musa moments! So basically, Musa feels insecure in their relationship and she's way too bad at vulnerability to just ask for reassurance, so she's fishing for a compliment. She wants to hear 'you look great in it' or something like that. Riven doesn't get the hint (I'm resisting the urge to write my essay on Riven being autistic, but he consistently doesn't catch implications like this) so he responds 'it looks cool.' Musa gets mad because that's a very casual, disinterested response, and it's the kind of thing you would say to a guy friend- it doesn't validate her as His Girl, like she wanted
In Musa's mind she can't just communicate her needs clearly, because if she says 'I need affection' and Riven gives her affection that won't 'count,' because she 'gave him the answer.' So she's testing him instead. And he failed because he couldn't read her mind lol
(I hope this doesn't sound like I'm hating on Musa, I LOVE her and I think this aspect of her character is really interesting!
Second season doesn't get enough praise so I'm glad You said that it contains so much character development
I think second season might be my favourite ahah
是不是有毛線編織帽
second season is my fav for sure, the first (or is it second?) episode of it were the trix are in a villain peace asylum and stormy fights with the radio irrevocably altered my sense of humour

I LOVED that skirt tbh
i think short outfits are also good for fighting in the winx world, because of the flexibility you get without too much fabric in the way and air resistance =better aerodynamics (physics wooo)

You made me want to rewatch it again
Winx didn't give me body image issues, their design looked too unrealistic to compare myself to
I wanna say how well-written Aisha is.
So I studied animation and have been working as a storyboard artist for 3 years now c:

i love how creative the attacks were in the first 2 seasons, you can tell that they are actively thinking during battle and not just throwing glitter bombs at people (uhem, season 5).

Keep in mind Roxy was supposed to become the 7th Winx that’s why her transformation was Believix but made weaker since she was the new fairy.
It’s rare but extremely refreshing for people to acknowledge that
Bloom's Enchantix was both the most and the least main-characterish thing I ever saw.
I think its fair so that the others can shine. And i love it her outfit is literally like floras but flora is better.
I love that people are getting into the fandom after the hay day too🥰
Wow what an awesome deep dive!
Thank you🥰 I even got grey/blue contacts for that ahahahahh
Yeah the next one is gonna be ranty ahahh
I used to love Winx but the moment they added fully 3D animated scenes in the show I left and never came back. I think the 3D style looks horrible.
Great video ♡
“So many questions and no answers.”
“Euphoria who?”
“Someone married a HORSE…”
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh Okay
So they made schools on the ground for both fairies and witches who can fly, but the only ones who don't get a school that's floating above cloud level...
They're goona die man wtf
ahahahahah omfg true
Ahahaf
😂
Maybe it's so they can't get off and the witches/fairies have to fly to them to visit them?
Cough cough lame pun intended cough cough
If you cant figure out how to save yourself from falling down... Youre not worthy
With everything that Winx had to offer, I feel like the live action should have been picked up by HBO and gotten the same treatment/production level as Game Of Thrones!
Ikr???? Ugh so much wasted potential
Or The Lord of the Rings, Darkar could be the Winx version of Sauron.

初代魔法天使
Lucy and Mirta would make sense but I don’t see Flora being in the love triangle
@@NoName-vm3kl With Lucy and Mirtha is a bit more evident, but in my interpration I think Flora was also involved
It is hereeee, the masterpiece of a review of a masterpiece of a tv show!!
I finally finished it! Ahaha
Its your legacy on the internet lol it took the time it needed to
Btw the thumbnail is beyond perfect 🥺🥰
omg thank you!! I'm glad you like it hehe
i remember the first time watching aisha/layla's enchantix animation. i was COVERED in goosebumps
it was a MOMENT
the song fit it so well too
SAME
Thanks for pointing out that Brandon and Stella fighting a whole season because of jealousy makes no sense, this has bothered me for years and now I feel validated
Riven's hair in the movie still has me in stitches. It looks like purple grass, like what even is that texture 🤣
Great analysis on the golden age of Winx (and S4)! The following seasons are such a huge downgrade and disappointment so it's really good to see such an in-depth review of the show when it was still good, by someone who is clearly fond of it. ❤️
I’m glad you liked it🤍🤍🤍
Your Stella outfit is so cute, I love it!
Thank you🥰
Right??
I like to assume Daphnie sent Bloom forward in time in order to fix the plot hole with her timeline.
Maybe francis was just having a sleepover and borrowed blooms pajamas lol
Yes, that's Aisha's roommate. People forget that Aisha wasn't in the same dorm as the rest, I think it's because of Seasons 5 and upwards.
omg girl i have been SO excited to watch this video!! u truly are such a good content creator, and u inspire me as a person who studies Styling A LOT!! all of the looks u pulled together for this, the research, the editing, it’s just amazing.. alsoo did u know all of the enchantix designs are inspired by certain flowers? i found out like a month ago and god it made me even more obsessed with enchantix 🧎♀️ i think u would find this veery interesting too, so here is every character listed with their little individual special flower:
Tecna: Violet
Flora: Lily
Stella: Orchid
Musa: Chinese lantern flower
Layla: Iris
Bloom: Cornflower
Omg thank you so much!! I didn’t know that they were inspired by flowers😲
57:41 i have a theory myself with stella's dress. if you can see the yellow on the bottom of the dress and the more pink-ish in the top, are sunrise colors. sunrise symbolize rebirth, growths, new beginnings, THE COMING OF LIGHT, and some endings. Despise what happened at the princess dance is cute seeing how the dress represents kind of a new Stella rising.

wow this video was everything!! i am floored how much time and effort went into this, thank you lisa!!!! i have great respect for your hard work and analytical skills, especially bc you are dealing with your cancer treatment at the same time and i can't even imagine how hard that must be.
i greatly appreciate your perspective on a show that i have so much nostalgia for, i think i'm definitely due for a rewatch (at least of the first few seasons...)
i'm already excited for the follow up video, until then take care!
thank you💛💛 it's always so nice when ppl notice the work that went into a piece of content!
My interpretation of witches vs fairies is that it’s because they draw their powers from opposing sources (light and darkness) and it’s probably a social issue too
Witches seem to see fairies as bubbly weak “pretty girls” with no backbones and fairies seem to see witches as crude, dark, mean, etc. I mean Flora was laughed at when at Cloud Tower for answering a question with “caring for a cute animal” when the witch answer was to harm it and harvest its tears for spells
I think the factor in determining who wants to be a witch/fairy depends on what realm they are from, what their powers are, and how they were raised
Y’know, I’d like to see those that break the fairy witch specialist wizard binary.
Like, male fairies. Witch fairies, female specialists, or heck, people who use both light and dark magic. Or neutral magic.
I have never watched 5 minutes of Winx... I listened to the entire thing. This was very well done. Thanks!
🥰🥰

They actually did exactly that! 😍
I think they call Believix a higher form in the season, but they do actually leave in the enchantix form so I think they might've made a mistake when calling believix a higher form of transformation haha and I'm glad you liked the video💛
that would be a perfect solution!

ik I am kinda late to the conversation but growing up loving winx club I am rlly glad to have found your video! And the aspect of the winx world and its aesthetic rlly reminds me of just another childhood cartoon that I loved called Totally spies! It also combines femininity and power without having exaggerated violent weapons that we are so used to seeing but fun gadgets! like laser lipstick and those powder tins for communication! that's just genius!!
omg yeah I love totally spies! After I'm done with w.i.t.c.h. deep dive, totally spies is gonna be next
this deep dive was so necessary lol -- i was so entertained the entire way through as I had it on my second monitor as i worked on something else a little tedious and i laughed out loud at so many points
musa, the fairy of music: doing something related to music
riven: you're different you're changing
.... boy😂🤣 when i was a kid i felt riven was so problematic at times, sometimes i felt he just needed to touch some grass, take deep breaths
also season 3 gowns were everything, i agree 1000%
i remember not caring at all about kiko's romance arc when i was a kid 😂😂 but something about the ridiculousness of everyone just pairing up into couples is so funny to me. my favorite ship in winx club was flora and helia. their dynamic is so wholesome, so 10/10 best couple in my childhood hehe
thank you so much for this deep dive. winx club is one of my comfort shows, especially the older seasons, and i learned a lot from the way you broke it down! can't wait for part 2 💖💖
omg I'm so happy it wasn't boring to watch!! I was worried about that ahaha
right??? riven is ridiculous, like most of her personality is related to music, so what is he on ahahaha
it is quite silly, just everyone paired up ahaha Flora and Helia are a great healthy couple, that's true
thank you for watching, and I'm glad it was enjoyable🥰🥰
it's nice watching these reviews of fans who genuinely grew up with it, just pointing out details that only someone who REALLY watched it can point out 😌
Looking forward to part 2 and your (justified) rants.
This video, negative legend's 'what happened to winx club', and billiam's 'winx club was weird and it still exists' are MY FAVORITES!
Omg yeah I love those other two, they’re one of my faves
if my memory is not mistaken, Musa keeps triggering Riven into fights just to see if he really cares.
I’m so happy to see so many people diving into this series. It will always have a special place in my heart!
same, it was such a huge part of my childhood
@@LisaFevral Also, props to you on finishing chemotherapy. You truly are strong. I wish you a good, long, healthy life.
thank you sm🤍🤍🤍
i love this video omg. the looks, the thoroughness of the dive into every aspect of the show, the fact that your passion for it is clearly showing 😭😭 i just love it so much thank you for your great work!!
Thank you sm, I’m really glad you enjoyed it😭😭
Despite being one of the more popular seasons, Season 4 felt like the black sheep of Winx
The way everything was presented, the fact that is is the ONLY season without the Trix in it, the fact that the way Believix powers work in kind of a messed up way (Believix more like Sociopathix)
Even thoughh it is largely flawed, I can't help but adore this season
57:03 OMG the season 3 gowns are beautiful and individualistic I love Musa’s gown so much and there’s even a cosplay of it and it’s so gorgeous it almost makes her look like a Disney Princess👸🏻🎐🏮🎀🎎💃🏻💄
I haven't watched Fate: The Winx Saga on Netflix yet in order to not destroy my childhood memories. Winx Club does literally not lack neither in plot nor in any other perspective, they could have made the series so much better, but they didn't grasp the opportunity when they should have.
winx was literally made for a live action adaptation, it's so sad they messed it up
13:03 The morphix surfboard is one of the best spells I ever saw in a magic based show.
ikr??? it was definitely my favourite
The most in-depth Winx video I ever witnessed. I haven't finished the video yet but I'm pausing so I can get my snacks while watching this 🥰
yesss, it's always better to watch it with snacks💛
Haha, you should check out Unicorn of War's videos on Winx. Their videos are great
@@mypov4592 I love Unicor of War's videos too!
I think they did a great job when they use the time as unsynchronised in both worlds. It’s a great way to seperate them from each other in my opinion. So the 16 years in earth equals more like ages in magical dimention. It explains why domino is so ancient and the teachers are older and no one knows about daphne
that's a good explanation, I just wish they were more clear/direct about that!
The way this show had me thinking i was transforming by throwing some blankets around...
BTW, the wig is giving Jisoo in DDU-DU DDU-DU
Omg so many good memories from childhood bc of this show! And yeah, you’re right it reminds me of it too!
I always loved that Bloom wore blue instead of red bc it shows her fire powers aren't all she is and i love that
Okay i literally loved this video so much, you definitely project this obsession/passion for winx that i relate to 100% and it feels amazing to listen to you notice every detail .
