    I agree!! I know a lot of great nurses who didn't make the best grades, but who are awesome nurses!!!! I also think that it is important to push yourself in study and learning nursing materials so you are able to keep your patients safe! Grades don't always mean how great or bad of a nurse you are!!!

    • @NurseBass
      @NurseBass  9 лет назад +2

      +Ashley Adkins, RN Exactly. Just make sure you study the material and really absorb all that you can, that way you can really take care of your patients properly.

    This is me! I used to cry when I didn’t do as well on my exams. But, after a while I had to stop beating myself up because I am a single mom and had to commute 2xs longer than all of my peers. All of my other peers didn’t have the barriers I did but I am still here.

    wow!!!! the timing of this video is perfect. this has been on my heart lately. We started clinicals a few weeks ago and this really hit home. Studying and taking test is much different than dealing with real patients. Just because you get A's, does not mean that you will be in good nurse and in vice versa. Some people are just better test takers than others. Thank you Nurse Bass! You do rock :D

    This is great. I am currently an "A" student, but I am terrified of what my grades will be once my nursing classes start in May. My husband reminds asks me all the time, "what's the difference in a Doctor who finished first in his class, and the Doctor who finishes last in his class? Nothing, they are both Doctors". In our case it would be nurses of course. 😂

    Perfect timing! Just got my mid-term grades. I was so disappointed. Pre-req made A's then start nursing school and making B's and C's. Talk about breaking down and crying, start wondering if I can do this then here's your video. Great encouragement! I know the material (so much info.) study like crazy! IT IS POSSIBLE and won't let grades define ME!

      @jacquelinezarou146 7 лет назад

      Hey Shaina,
      I am in the same situation. I am working my behind off trying to stay afloat and get the good grades to pass. But everytime I hear my professor talk to me she says you are going to be a great nurse, you have such great bedside manner, your patients love you. But it is so frustrating that everyone else is getting these A's and B's and I am studying my ass off and I am getting the minimum and sometimes below. Each test that comes around, I unfortunately expect the worst and start thinking about what I should do if I fail out of school. But I won't quit now. But I am hoping that you made it since it has been a year.

    Uplifting video ! Everyone needs to see this video and know that it is not OVER! Grades are not who one is...the best thing is to focus on the prize no matter the grade, even if it means passing with all C's, hey, ...just don't give up and one will be FINE! the moment one gives up, then u can't even make that all C's. Truth is the nursing profession is made out to toughen one up, knowing in the real world of nursing, one is dealing with life or death situation, it's better to not be discouraged by grades knowing what one learns today no matter how hard it took to learn it, can save a life tomorrow :-)

    • @NurseBass
      @NurseBass  9 лет назад

      +disneychick8891 That's absolutely right! Can't be complacent, can't be content with mediocrity, and CAN NOT give up! "What one learns today can save a life tomorrow." That's why I love that quote so much: "One day a patient's life will be in your hands, so study like it." It's so true.

    Dude this is exactly what I needed. Thanks Nurse Bass. I felt defeated in clinical and this literally gave me the joy to know that there are nursing students out there just like me studying with all that they have got. And absolutely I 100% agree that we should be studying to learn the material so we can take care of the patient to the best of our ability. To give our all as nurses for the few who need us the most.

    I made straight A's in my freshman & sophomore years, went into clinical with a 4.0. That changed SO fast when I got to that clinical sequence! It's a whole different style of learning and the curve is steep. I will likely finish this semester with only one A-in an elective! It is discouraging but I am confident that I'm still going to be a good nurse. You're so right, the letter on the paper does NOT define the nurse! Thanks for sharing this bit of encouragement :-)

    It's really hard to do well in nursing school. I'm usually a 4.0 student, but each semester my mark gets lower and lower. In term 3 I got a 3.57, and in term 4 I got a 3.33. And the marks getting lower and lower each term is normal in nursing school. In term five and six, we've already gotten used to it.

    In the real world, all medical facilities are not gonna judge a potential employee on stuff like grades in school, or how many times the nurse took the NCLEX. What matters is can the nurse practice patient care safely. That's what matters. I struggled in nursing school & took the NCLEX exam 6 times. It's been 11 years since I've been a nurse & I'm one of the best nurses in my job.

    Nurse Bass thank you thank you thank you for making this video! I am currently in nursing school and I completely agree with every word you said. I recently heard a comment that put a bad taste in my mouth. A girl in my cohort who always gets As was talking to another student who is a C student and she told her " Is school getting easier or am I just really smart?" I was besides myself! How rude and obnoxious! I know the girl is getting Cs but she works very hard for them. I could tell she felt bad about that comment so I immediately told her that it's while being on the floor that she will shine. She's passing just like the rest of us and that's all that matters! Thank you for reminding everyone that even Cs get degrees!

      @NurseBass  9 лет назад +2

      +sunshinemari081 Yea, that's just a matter of being inconsiderate and that's unfortunate. But hey, we all just have to keep our heads up and keep moving forward. Thanks for the comment and I'm glad you enjoyed the video :)

    Oh my god, I am so very relieved to hear a real nurse say this, on my first day of my Anatomy and Physiology 1 class my professor, who is a former ER surgeon, said how you have to make A's and B's in order to be able to go where you want to go as a nurse or in any other health care profession. So I have almost been stressing myself to get my grade back to a B because right now I am at a 76 C, I'm not saying I am going to start slacking off but now I don't feel I have to be so hard on myself just for having the C.

    People worry to much about grades nowadays just want to stand out and feel like they are smarter, but in the end they just are good test takers. in the end when you ask a question in clinical they don't know because they just memorized content for the test and didn't really apply the knowledge. The ones who know the most are the ones who take the time to study and actually learn the material. who cares if you barely pass, as long as you get the degree and license you should feel proud, because in real life situations what you learned will make you a better nurse for your patients, families, and yourself. learned from experience, keep studying and grades are just a another label.

    • @NurseBass
      @NurseBass  9 лет назад

      +RN Scrub I couldn't agree more. Learn the material and retain it. That is what is most important for school and your career. Many programs say that Nursing School is preparing you to pass the NCLEX. I think that's a bad way to view it. We should look at it as Nursing School is preparing us for our future careers. We shouldn't be studying to pass a test, we should be studying to save lives. All of the rest is just background noise. :)

    Oh my I needed this! I needed this reminder to focus on the material and learn it for my patients. I don't have to kill myself to keep my 3.69 GPA.

    • @NurseBass
      @NurseBass  9 лет назад

      +Naomi Reiff That's exactly right. There is a quote I love and if you haven't seen my other videos, I've said it quite a few times. "One day patient's lives will be in your hands. Study like it." That's what learning all of this material is for. The grades are okay, but the knowledge for your patient's sake is what really matters. But don't get me wrong now, do your very best in getting those grades. Because if you plan on pursuing future degrees in Nursing, you're going to need them :)

      +Elena Alvarez Aw. I'm sorry to hear that things aren't going so well right now. But I'm glad the video was able to help you out a little bit. And I meant every word! One bad test, one bad grade, one bad whatever doesn't define who you are as a future Nurse. You just have to keep plugging away, taking it one day at a time and grinding until you make it! Best of luck to you!

    Man, your video is 8 y.o. but even today it's totally valid. I study nursing in Finland and the evaluation system steals students motivation a lot.

    • @NurseBass

      Yeah, it's a time-tested truth. I'm sorry to hear about the demotivating evaluation system over there. At the end of the day, the knowledge to care for your future patients is most important :D

    This is what I needed to hear today. Lift my spirit with some word of encouragement, it's so true. Grades do not define us and pt's don't care of our grades, they just want us to be able to care for them respectfully, their family will so much appreciate it. We will encounter so many obstacles on the way, we just need to learn how to recognize it and beat it out of the way, so it will never be again the obstacle it once was. We fall and we get up and we keep trying until we get there. We Do Not give up, we are Not Quitters, We are soon to be NURSES! 👍😉

    • @NurseBass
      @NurseBass  9 лет назад

      +Tina Ortiz That's exactly correct. We are soon to be Nurses, and all of our journeys are different. But at the end of the day, all that matters is that you're an awesome Nurse taking care of your patients properly! >:D

    I get where you're coming from, but in the school I attend we need a minimum of 80% to pass, anything below is considered a fail, no exceptions.

    • @NurseBass
      @NurseBass  9 лет назад

      +Crystal Barthelette Yep, our pass percentage is 78%. So I know what you mean by having that ultimatum. It's an added level of pressure. But that's why we have to shoot for the starts and not scrape by and settle for the bare minimum.

    • @crystalbarthelette
      @crystalbarthelette 9 лет назад +1

      Yes I agree! More is best in this case. The more we learn, the more efficient we can be.

    Cs get degrees!! no really. I have not had one employer ask me about my grades. Also my manager said for the new grad program, people already working at the hospital or your critical thinking and performance on the floor are more important. Some of the deans list people in my program can't explain anything but are really good test takers. How great are those As if you can't do patient teaching or perform on the floor.

    Do you not need a 3.7-4.0 in order to get into nursing school? I have had so many people tell me I need to get straight A's in order to even 'think' about being a nurse. I am kinda confused what you are telling me, it gets me so much good and a little less stress. But in order to get into the program do you not need that g.p.a?

    • @Youngsoldier93
      @Youngsoldier93 8 лет назад

      I'm at a community college and you need a 2.5 gpa but it also depends on the school you're going to attend.

    • @EmoTheNoob
      @EmoTheNoob 7 лет назад

      It totally depends on the school's requirements, most schools require atleast 3.0 GPA. some require you to take pre-nursing entrance exams whereas some don't.

    To me a good nurse is made from good job training. The best nurses started with good mentors. If your just thrown to the wolves the after 3 days of orientation chances are you will be eaten alive and hate your job. Nurses need to be nurtured so they can grow.

    Nah I'd rather have a nurse that was knowledgeable and safer. We can't consider someone a good nurse simply because they're kind and caring. The best nurses I've met were rough around the edges but knew their shit better than anyone else. But hey, whatever helps comfort C students.
