Pininfarina Battista review | New 1900hp electric hypercar driven | Autocar

- Where to begin with the Pininfarina Battista? It’s a model that marks the establishing of Automobili Pininfarina as a new car company in its own right, building on the heritage of the renowned design house.
As a result of Automobili Pininfarina deciding to make its own car with its own name on it, it decided that it needed to make a splash. And what could make more of a splash than an electric hypercar with 1900hp (1876bhp) that costs €1.98m? Call it £2 million depending on the exchange rate and local taxes.
Performance figures are equally startling. The 0-62mph time is under two seconds. The top speed is more than 217mph. And it'll do 0-186mph in under 12 seconds.
Under the skin, the Battista shares a reasonable amount with the Rimac Nevera. The two companies are 'frenemies', they say. Friendly rivals who helped develop the carbon fibre tub, the aluminium subframes that hold the suspension and the drivetrain.
The drivetrain is a 120kWh battery which drives an electric motor at each wheel - each rear motor makes 603bhp and each front one 335bhp. Any one of them alone would make reasonable progress. Put them all together and, well, you can expect fireworks.
Pininfarina will build just 150 Battistas over the next three years. This is one of the first. Our man Matt Prior tries it in both places it has to excel: on the road and the race track.

So proud that Mahindra & Mahindra owns Pininfarina now!
Still it's made in Italy ...... Anyway it will only help Mahindra cars in India.......
@@lessradical
Mahindra helped pininfsrina
@@lessradical not just India but Australia, African and European markets too. Don't know if it will have any effect in North American market since it's very limited and in nascent stages with only Roxor being present
Certainly the best looking EV I’ve seen so far. It’s quite classically beautiful…well it is a Pininfarina 🤷♂️
Certo!!!! Pininfarina, Bertone, Giugiaro, Torino Crea.................all world class Italian design houses..! Forza Italia.
I was going to say too bad about the way it looks, as in run of the mill supercar. Really nice, but borrowed.
@@johnsmith1474 agree, pretty but derivative
@@jeanclaudebertoni6262 but owner is mahindra and mahindra group Indian car brand!!
@@reyajalisha3268 owning and creating is not the same. I own a german shepherd but didnt create it. Easy to buy.
Never seen Matt nearly swear then keep on laughing in the same moment before. That says it all, compared to every other car he has ever driven. This is the one to have, above all others.
This is honestly by far the best looking modern day car I've seen in quite some time. Absolutely stunning! This will be another timeless piece of automotive design by Pininfarina. Whoever did the design, hats off to you sir. Oh, and the performance... what a small Croatian car company can do is is simply unfathomable. Incredible Mate Rimac!
I love the one in two colors, but the full black one? Meh. Why hide the beautiful lines?
I'm waiting for customer specs and colors.
This is how modern Ferraris should look like, but the Maranello brand ditched them
To me, since that thing is not meant for economic driving the range is gonna be just awful if you drive it like it's meant to.. total of 5 minutes at full beans and that's before the battery health goes down.
@@MrDownRater my favorite modern design from ferrari is the 488 pista. Absolutely hate the design of the sf90
No, it's not.
Matt’s laugh…… explains all you need to know about this car
I absolutely love it when professional auto journalists break into laughter ...as if we are seeing their inner child in that moment. Matt is otherwise very professional and objective while reviewing a car..
Saw a blue one at the Petersen pretty recently. A really incredible thing to see in person. A stand out example, considering the company it keeps.
So happy that an Indian company owns such a famous brand with heritage
How is is a GT when you can literally hear stones hitting the body work?
And no luggage space.
It’s not a get lul
They can hide the weight behind those words
Because you probably have a fleet of 30 - 40 cars already if you can afford this.
Love your reactions to the power lol
The budget and offer behind the manufacturing of this car is basically what Mahindra & Mahindra offered Pirinfarina in return for their entire shares. And today, Pirinfarina and its design philosophy is the intellectual property of Mahindra. 🔥
*Gotta admit that opening shot is why every car guy wants a car with butterfly doors 🦋*
So soothing sounding, another ASMR category for the future.
Proud of you Mahindra ❤️
It's stunning to look at as well. I can get used to these Electric hypercars if they look like this.
It's the best looking electric hypercar!! Better than rimac and lotus! Very clean and beautiful!!
better in what?🤔 Design is Personally Taste but Technic wise the Battista is not on the Level of Rimac.
@@johnnyblaze1372 what??? Are u dumb 😂😂 it is best accelerating car
Although it’s an EV, the review is brilliant as always.
Just a little correction, it’s Rimac with a “C”, not Rimak.
Cheers
The future is bright👍
Mr. Matt Prior ...Concept Two was prototype name, now, officialy, it is Nevera. ....You're wellcome :)
2 million pounds, "let's use silver screws for back of info system."
Probably exposed titanium screws
How many hours a day do you spend looking at the back of dashboards
Just silver? How about gold and platinum ones? 😆
Bellissima! Magnifica 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
Owned by Indian brand 🇮🇳
Looks, power, outstanding 😍😍
Anniversario edition is such a beauty 🥵
Since Pinninfarina designed her own car. There is this model that is the most beautiful.
Great Video
Its pretty its so fast it left passion behind.
Waiting to see if possible a review between this and the Rimac of both beasts! In terms of performance, driving comfort, everything😊😊😊
This car got all stuff from Rimac lol
@@iPhoneScreenFix1 yup, they just made her as a classic Rolls Royce version😂
Shout out to the drone pilot. That is some tight flying and filming.
Love this
Mega as these cars are i wonder where and when are we going to see the equivalent hot hatchbacks of the future for the ordinary people, the cars that wont cost the price of a small house yet still offer something for us drivers who still enjoy driving but can't afford 120k plus for that privilege
This is my favorite car design along with the Ford gt 😍
same
4:14 the stability control actually locked the left front!
that's actually pretty poor from a modern car.
That’s not locking wheels it is because the camera frame recording rate.. it is called wagon wheel effect.. google pls. 🤓
Its going to be fun to see the Battista, the Nevera and the mythical Tesla Roadster going head to head...
Gen2 roadster is more in the apex ap-0 and piech gt2 category of ev cars.
The Batista vs nevera vs aspark owl vs nio ep9 vs lotus evija ev hypercars should all have it out though.
Imagine the insurance wavers required for that test group? 😀
Bring it to Las Vegas. i want to see more electric supercars hitting the Vegas tracks in the summer months. beautiful car tho. thanks for the Vid.
Rimac who is working on their own solution to the rock noise problem is looking at a Ferrari like solution to solve the issue. Apparently there is like a rug or something similar that is used to reduce the sound from the doors or underside of the rocks hitting the carbon fiber body.
V12 would solve that.
Lets begin the new era of automotive 2000, 3000 , 4000 hp
Oohh please no
Let’s fly these damn things at last:)
What a blinder mate
Looks like a modern Maseratti MC12 with those colors
Love this car so so much 😍
Incredible
good review
Love it.
I actually love the sound of the batteries in this car
Batteries? You mean electric motor.
I'm glad Mahindra bought Pininfarina a few years ago and let them do their thing...
Heidfeld was a Mahindra formula e driver. So he was part of the car's development i guess.
That's one more legendary brand revived by an Indian carmaker like how Tata revived JLR.
Revived? They killed Jaguar and Land Rover, lmao, a jag or rover today breaks down within first 3 years of purchase
This is a good looking hypercar. first time i see this,.
This and the Nevera, the only EVs with a soulful design.
but still soul-less drivetrain no matter how much KW you put into it.
@@weed46 can't argue
So much sexier than the generic looking Rimac.
Italian design, always the best
I agree. Only thing that I can argue is that Pininfarina has such a long legacy of design elements, and Rimac cannot afford to look (a lot) like others, so it may look conservative, but you will probably not mistaken it for something else. Batista has such elegant lines, that exposed roof line like Zonda I just adore. Maybe interior is worse than Nevera.
It's simply not.
@@senja572 oh hi, Mate
Matt's reaction was enough.
Wow!
How about hanging a graduation tassel from the rear view mirror? It amazed back in the 80's to demonstrate a car's actual Gs.
Beautiful car
I love the look of this, but....the two screw bolts at the back of the info screen makes it look so cheap. Bit of an eye sore. Great review Matt
It has the best of both worlds, basically a Nevera but with a good looking italian designed body
wow this is Incredible just look at it
great review 🤟
It seems good I think I’ll get one
Drax would be proud
Fantastic car. Still over 2 tones of car, I wonder if it could lap as fast as a much lighter GT2RS with 1/3 of the power
Would be good to have the camera view pointing to the windshield while driving...
Great♤♤
I think this may be my favorite hyper EV, although I can’t afford it.
I never understand why they don't flock the wheel arch liners in these hypercars so you don't hear the stones
One of my bugbears with these sorts of carbon tub cars where everything is connected to the tub. They could also use special speakers that drown out the noise making the cabin super quiet.
If Ford could do it with the Focus MK1 then why can't everyone else?
@@pauln0371 Gigantic/wide tires, sticky tire compounds, low ride height and carbon tub will always add more stone noise than most normal cars.
Correct me if I'm wrong but 120kWh/1417kw=0,085 hours of full throttle action before your battery dies completely so be careful with that;D ..Give it a few years and some miles and bet you could do half of that, maybe 2 minutes LOL. Too lol.
Love love
Had this a trad engine I have a hard time thinking it’d be ”droning”? :)
An engine at each wheel + massive processing power = unlimited possibilities. However, can you lock out the computer intervention and have predictable, fine tunable, repeatable performance? Colour me curious.
Ah This is Good.. This is Good!
Nice Nevera bodykit
Need to make some lightweight 500hp n/a car with great feel , we soon can’t get them anymore so let flood the market lol
Best looking car
The footage at 7:44 literally looks sped up. My goodness.
It's basically a rebadged Nevera. Not that's a bad thing.
Looks amazing. I've no doubts it's ridiculously fast. But without the engine sound it's utterly boring to me.
De do have sound
Dream car
Audi and Porsche we have made an electric car
Rimac and Pininfarina are like hold me beer
This is pretty much a rimac nevra but with a different body style
I'd love their to be two versions of this car.
One full electric and the other with a combustion V12.
Slower rwd v12 one will probably be more fun.
Yeah, same here, but that world no longer exists, I'm afraid.
Yes, make a 5000hp rwd supercar; it'll be fun to drive on the streets.
@@ytsux9259 indeed , ask devil16 😅
@@ytsux9259 I’m sure 1000 will be plenty.😂
Do a drag race between this one and the Rimac.
How does it compare to the Evija?
That laugh was creepy tho😂😂🤣
And it's owned by an Indian company. Proud of that
Since they left Ferrari… Ferrari’s gone to HELL with their designs.
458 speciale ? F12 TDF? 812 Superfast/Competizione? 488 pista ? La Ferrari ? SF90?? 🤔
Facts
You must have never seen the cars I mentioned above in real life! Stunning
Really? I disagree. Their cars look great
@@DubC they did the 458 and f12
It’s a Rimac Nevera with a different suit on…
Really surprised no comparison has been drawn to the rimac.
Electrifying
Literally
The good looking version of the Nevera.
Can you, "expert", told us what's wrong with Nevera look!?
@@tikkyBee You know when they say "it looks like a 5yo designed it"? That's the case with the Nevera.
In other words, it lacks so much proportions and elegance that its designer might as well been blindfolded.
More specifically:
- the front end looks like an angry fish
- the grille is too small (in width)
- paintwork that gives it mustaches
- many random angular lines going nowhere
- big bonnet like it's trying to be a front engined car but not succeeding
- rear end with randomic angry shapes (reminiscent of the BMW i8)
- straight-ish body panels which lack sinuous sexyness
and so on.
@ThePininfarinaGentleman© Not everything i said is subjective. If you fed the Nevera to an image recognition software, it would indeed find similarities (more than most other cars) with an angry fish, with a mustached man, and with a BMW i8. Many lines are also objectively randomic.
You're free to like messy lines, angry fishes or mustached men, but i'm equally free to call the Nevera a design failure.
The Battista eliminates all those "problems". But i don't consider the Battista a masterpiece either. It looks like a updated Ferrari 488 from most angles, which looks very good, but not "hypercar" good.
Let's see this against the Rimac in a drag race
This is Rimac. Except outer shell
15:24
Koenigsegg Regera: Am I a joke?
Bugatti Veyron: Me too?
Bugatti Chiron: What about me?
U know when he laughs he sounds like the cars sound
Not liking the bump response on roads, doesn’t really look like a GT car set up. They can do a better suspension set up with road vs track settings to improve this. For the price…
People raging about it lacking a V12 really have no idea how it feels to drive a powerful electric car. I have no problem understanding the feeling that are completely different then a V12 powered car. You have such an experience that is impossible to explain in video and there are people who will never except electric cars fine but electric cars will achieve levels just not possible with a internal combustion engine such as all around livability. You have beyond a car like the Chrion that getting an engine to 1,500 plus HP with daily driving is pretty close to impossible there is so much extra has too be done to make it work.
Probabily same way you have no idea how it feels to drive a powerful V12.
@@weed46 actually been in a Mercedes V12 two door. Got 8 to 11 mpg an was in the shop a lot.
Love the vacuum cleaner sound 🙄
Pininfarina please convince Ferrari to rehire you. Ferrari's internal design department is awful.
Facts.
Ferrari everything is awful for the last couple of years.
The best thing coming out of them is the Roma and that's just wrong
The new Daytona ain't bad.
That's true but there's a few exceptions like the 488 Pista. That car is gorgeous!
@@RedLP5000S it's trashhhhh
Electric cars holds supreme dominant on a lap around the track.
They rule pikes peak currently.
@@4literv6 That's says alone about electric vehicles. RC electric cars rules over the fuel burning RC cars and these are some of the things people never before dreamed possible for electric motors use in vehicles. Car designs are more cleaner and simple to build with around an electric motor then that of combustion engines.
Reminds me of the mclaren 765lt
Funfact pinniferina is owned by indian automobile company mahendra and mahendra
Modern poster car.
Wait till solid state batteries and supercapacitors arrive.
a better looking concept two!
I understand the reason for the name, but in Italy, Battista is a very old fashion uncool name.
I wonder if you can get a convertible
Is this developed with Rimac?
It sits on the same chassis as the nevera, they paid rimac over $150,000,000 for the chassis and powertrain.
Developed their own bodies and interiors, suspension tweaks etc.
Lots to talk about with this car, but how about doing something with the noise of stones banging on the floor and wheel arches? Makes it sound cheap...which is rediculous
So is misspelling ridiculous... it's preproduction.
