LOL! If the house seems chilly, I set bread dough in the windscreen of the car, or other times, in the turned-off oven to raise. More than once, I've forgotten it was in there and preheated the oven. Fortunately, my bowl is a large metal one; if I remember in time, I can pan the dough that's still raw and bake it properly. I tried once just baking it in the bowl-- #cooking fail.
I once found & made a banana bread recipe that called for roasting bananas in their peel. It just tasted like regular banana bread but it worked. You could have made banana bread unless they were inside a bag or something else that ruined them.
And that is a huge lie. I had a self clean oven...it goes to 900 degrees. You can stop it in the first minute. It takes a bit to go into clean mode. I have accidentally hit the self clean button on mine. Stop it right away. But when I was in my 20s I had a self clean oven go nuts. It went into self clean When I was baking a casserole. It blew up the casserole dish. Baked the food to the oven walls and door. And the oven floor was concave afterwards. It took me 3 months to get them to send me new stove. After I threatened to call consumer action at the TV station about nast customer services. I got the top of the line stove .
My oven has a lock that is set by the self cleaning setting (actual setting on the dial, not just a button), but it gets reset if the setting is off and the oven is below safe(ish) temperature. So if I would accidentally set it, I can undo it and reset the oven to the right temperature (assuming it has not been to hot) and the door will be unlocked automatically at some point.
Not everyone can unplug the oven without pulling oven out. In my apt the oven is not plugged in to anywhere where its reachable unless pulling out and then getting back behind oven. Mine if you do self clean you just press cancel.
I mistook '1 tsp of baking soda' for '1 Cup of baking soda' when I made my daughter a birthday cake a few years back. Her response after one bite was to slowly well up in tears and softly whine "I thought you loved me...", then she ran off to her room to cry, and wouldn't come out to open presents. #CookingFail

The air fryer is the replacement for the microwave oven. Not faster, but oh so better. Great for veggies. Bakes wonderful fish. I've even roasted a whole chicken to perfection. If you don't have an air fryer, you are missing out. Also excellent for restoring the crunch to fried foods. Like soggy French fries.

But... I forgot to put the pan on the floor under the Turkey. it was so heavy it tore the bag and land on the kitchen floor. 5 second rule. Washed it off did it right the 2nd time and no one new. Well I guess they do now if they read this. When several guest said it was the best Turkey they had ever had we had to hold back the laughter

My wife and I were newly married. We went to my hometown to celebrate my parents 25th anniversary. The benchmark near my childhood home is stamped 7,620 ft. My wife offered to make dinner one night and knew nothing about high altitude cooking. She put the potatoes on to boil a few minutes before dinner, the way she usually did. We had pretty much finished eating by the time the potatoes were ready.

Ovens often don't have electric plugs, at least in Germany (the cord is attached directly to a special box in the wall), but you can simply throw the fuse. What's wrong with people?

One time mom, and I were going to cook spaghetti, and we put water in the pot. Then we set the stove to a boil while mom, and I relaxed. It turns out we both forgot about the water boiling away, and the water completely evaporates like the proper steps to cooking spaghetti never even happened, and is just left with a hot, empty, spaghetti pot. Luckily mom woke up from a nap because I was napping too, and I count my blessings that our house didn't burn down, that she turned the stove off, and moved the empty pot to another cooler part of the stove. In conclusion, mom woke me up to let me know what happened, and we ended up not making spaghetti. Instead we ended up making something else that was easier that day. #CookingFail
My new ovens lock when they should. Our former oven would lock normally but to unlock it I had to pull it out & go through the back. That’s one reason why it’s a former oven.

Self clean my apartment gladly welcomed as long as it not myself doing the cleaning
On ours it has a sliding lock that you have to engage or the self cleaning won't start.

@@arnoschaefer28 In America we have special plugs and outlets .. most ovens are wedged in between 2 counters.. I've never had an oven that does not have a manual lock to negate just pushing a button.

When were we 15, my best friend and I attempted to bake cookies at her house. Somehow, they came out smelling like an expired dairy product and they looked really weird. Tasted just fine though. She brought some to school the next day, kept them in her locker until lunch. The entire sophomore hallway smelled terrible all year. Everyone just assumed it was coming from the volleyball coaches office, we never told anyone the truth. 😂

My husband came home from a business trip on his birthday. Since we’re both keto, I found a recipe for a keto giant chocolate chip cookie with buttercream frosting. I realized that I couldn’t pipe “Happy birthday” so I just thickly wrote “Hi”. Since it was chocolate buttercream, it looked like turds.
My daughter made a beef roast for dinner once and somehow the end result tasted exactly like a tuna fish sandwich! She's banned from cooking indefinitely lol
Or maybe instead of banning her you can actually teach her how to cook. She will have to live on her own eventually it would be good if she knew how to cook for herself.

Since context can get lost online and you're obviously a sweetheart, I'll clarify, I didn't literally ban her lol she's also nearly 30 now and lives on her own. She still can't cook so great, despite many attempts at teaching her, but she makes an amazing guacamole and some yummy hummus!

One time mom, and I were going to cook spaghetti, and we put water in the pot. Then we set the stove to a boil while mom, and I relaxed. It turns out we both forgot about the water boiling away, and the water completely evaporates like the proper steps to cooking spaghetti never even happened, and is just left with a hot, empty, spaghetti pot. Luckily mom woke up from a nap because I was napping too, and I count my blessings that our house didn't burn down, that she turned the stove off, and moved the empty pot to another cooler part of the stove. In conclusion, mom woke me up to let me know what happened, and we ended up not making spaghetti. Instead we ended up making something else that was easier that day.

I call bs on the self-cleaning oven. Every self-cleaning oven I've ever had or seen has to be locked manually before the cleaning mode will work.
My new ovens lock when they should. Our former oven would lock normally but to unlock it I had to pull it out & go through the back. That’s one reason why it’s a former oven.
I agree. Also, even if it *did* lock automatically, couldn’t you just unplug it?
@@Elizabeth-rq1vi usually they have a switch on the front that you move from one side to the other. Our oven will not start the clean cycle unless it's locked. Are you saying that yours locks automatically?
@@superschmolz the old oven had that lever but it eventually only worked one way. My new Dacor ovens are built-in & so far so good. I suppose in 20yrs the electronics will crap out. They don’t have a lever as they are electronic...so buttons only. They are niiiccce ovens💕

Last night, I opened my oven and my apple pie was completely on fire. 9” across and 4” high. I had a crumble topping that I was getting “golden” under the broil setting and walked away for just a second. 🥴
