    Mary was kicking your butt, she was on fire. Great multi species day for both of you. You get a great workout reeling in the catches. Missed a few early but the bite turned in and more fish in the boat. Well done Zac.

    This is the first time I recall you mentioning that Mary doesn’t even like seafood. I was surprised, as her enthusiasm and skills in pulling it out of the sea are impressive. She’s obviously the best ‘catch’ you’ve managed to land Zac. I love your content.
    I cannot wait to get up there. I just bought some land on Wrangell Island, researching all of that is how I came across your channel. Perhaps we will cross paths one day.

      Hi BarryC thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! Yes indeed despite Mary not enjoying seafood she certainly has a blast catching a lot of it! 100% agree she's my best catch - well said!!! Wow how cool - that's awesome you bought some land on Wrangell Island! Are you planning to build a cabin? Lots of good halibut fishing down that way! Tight lines! Captain Zac

    Hi Zac-- I’m really curious which specific electric reel did you choose and any pros and cons you could share would be great. Thx Steve. ❤ 👍👍👍

    • @CaptainZac
      @CaptainZac  5 месяцев назад

      Hi @stevesheller9223 I chose a Daiwa Seaborg 500mj spooled w/ 50lb braid. I chose this reel because it is small enough to fish "in hand" for halibut jigging and still strong enough to battle barn doors. The lighter line (50 vs. 80) allows for more line capacity, which enables some deeper drops for black cod. Tight lines! Captain Zac

    Great fishing video Zac & Mary! My friends & I built a big steel building / boat garage this past summer by my Petersburg cabin. Used your lures to catch tons of halibut, Pacific cod, rockfish etc! Will have to try the 24 oz ones next summer.
    What brand / size spinning rod & reel do you recommend? I’ll try that too

      Hi WB Stone thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! Wow that's awesome to hear you had such good success with my jigs near Petersburg! @@CaptainZac Thanks for letting me know your spinning setup. I’m spending most of each summer in Petersburg, learning new halibut fishing spots with names like Jurassic Park! We normally limit out on halibut daily with your lures tipped with herring (which I wrap in a little mosquito net mesh so it stays on the hook longer). Caught a lot of delicious cod & rockfish on your lures as well.
      Good salmon fishing around Petersburg too, kings and silvers but this year I also kept a lot of Pink Salmon (in August) and had them smoked, they’re great smoked and you can easily catch dozens a day.

    Have you ever tried adding assists hooks or some might call a stinger hook to the jigs?
    I just got some from hardwire tackle.

    • @CaptainZac
      @CaptainZac  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Patrick thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! I've used stinger hooks every so often over the years. The positive of stinger hooks is that they can increase hookups, the downside is they can increase the chance of a twist/tangle as you are jigging. Do you use stinger hooks while jigging? Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

      Hi Russ thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! That's awesome you were halibut fishing in Seward! Haha I know exactly what you mean. I fished for halibut out of Seward a while ago. Resurrection Bay starts off calm, slowly starts to build, and then before you know it you are in 6-8 foot rollers in the Gulf of Alaska! You definitely have to "earn" your halibut up there! Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

      Hi Tommy thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! Yes I do - I have both spinning and bait casting gear on board but I most often prefer using a big spinning rod while jigging for halibut (a "pull" vs. "push" motion). Tight lines! Captain Zac

      Hi Chompersize thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut footage! With a circle hook, I agree - never set the hook (let them swim with it). With a heavy jig, I've found that it is important to bury the hookset. Thanks and tight lines! Captain Zac

    If you ever come to Virginia Beach or outer banks North Carolina. Get in touch I'll take you fish . The strippers are showing up here also the speckled trout are showing up and we can always catch yellow fin tuna. Also the king mackerel are about to show up they are fun to catch and we get good money for them. I went net fishing for the second time with a buddy and we filled the nets with Spanish mackerel and white dotter sharks 🦈. It was crazy picking fish sucks but I made 700 bucks in 10 hours. Love the videos I'll be there next summer come hell or high water.
