Great video Steve, I have a boat on that marina, so lucky to get to fish there a lot or take the boat out, endless great pike fishing on the Shannon. Loads of great back waters and bays to fish in 🎣👍
Enjoyable video. Well done and thank you. Fair play for getting the video out so quickly. I didn't fish this weekend as I didn't fancy my chances with the lack of wind. Half regretting it now as no doubt there were plenty of pike caught around the place. Can be very tough on flat calm days though in my opinion.
@@columfagan2375 thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed the video. Had to fish when I can. So no matter what the weather I head out if it’s a fishing weekend. if you’re not in you can win.
Another good video Steve, always nice to catch on a new venue. I've never fished the Shannon myself but it's on the list for this year. Tight lines 🎣🎣🎣
I enjoyed the video. Good effort. I do nearly all my pike fishing on rivers. Mostly the Hampshire avon and Dorset Stour and occasionally the itchen or test. I have quite a lot of success and use very low tech methods. Float legered deadbait and perhaps a wobbled roach or smelt on the second rod if the pike are in the mood for an active bait. I would walk miles and use my water craft to find suitable swims. You might catch several pike from one swim but more often than not i will spend a maximum of 45 mins per swim then move. Some swims only tend to hold jacks and others larger pike. There appears to be a pecking order. Enjoy your fishing and look forward to the next one
At least ya didn't lose any more expensive gear🙄 ... I'm goin through a dry patch meself at the moment ... can't even catch a jack !.. 😭 Someone told me about a pic circulating on facebook of a FN holding a brush handle with several pike hanging from it, through the gills and them flappin around still alive... makes me blood boil... 😤 Keep 'em comin mate !!.. 🤗 😎👍☘️🍻
@@peterfitzpatrick7032 cheers. Didn’t lose anything this time thank god. It seems to be hard going everywhere at the minute. When I was fishing Cavan I was talking to the fisheries officer and he showed me a video of a lad pouring boiling water on a live pike to descale it. It was a small jack. Fucker wouldn’t even knock it on the head before doing it. Sickened me to watch it.
@FishingwithSteveIreland Wow... thats disgusting... yet not a bit surprising these days ... and set to get worse with the gates wide open for more to come...😕
Keep at it pal. Believe me I’m still learning this stuff myself. I’ve as many blanks as I do captures. Just keep getting out and enjoy the time on the bank, catching is just a bonus. 🎣
You need to try the lower river Barrow between Graignamanagh and St Mullins . Also great camper van park in Graignamanagh. Barrow Valley activities Hub.
@@michaelmitchfoley7702 I haven’t got to the hub yet. I’ve tried to book on a few times but it’s been fully booked. Wasn’t trying to go fishing just staying in the Motorhome.
Enjoyed that just stumbled across your channel drone footage was Great. Only getting into pike fishing any recommendations on the grand canal I'm in Robertstown so anywhere close be great start cheers
@@jimmydean2000 thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Haven’t fished the grand canal much. Used to fish for bream in Daingean years ago. I live on the royal canal and do a lot of fishing in Kilcock.
Great video lad, I've watched quite a few of your videos now and one thing I notice when you get a run off a pike is that you don't seem to "strike" or "set the hooks", to me would explain how so many of them "get off" on the retrieve
You could have a point. I think it comes from my carp fishing. Usually when you get a run when carping the fish is already hooked with the bolt rig, so no need for a strike. I need to remember to strike more when I’m pike fishing.
Hi Steve… love the videos.. also bought a motorhome last year but never used it to fish… do you have any trouble getting all the gear in to the van… ? … I always thought I’d struggle to get the pike gear in plus use the van to cook in and sleep…. The Shannon a bit further from me… I’m in Co Down… but with the van would definitely give it a go… Keep those videos coming….
Mine is a 6 berth so I’ve a fair bit of room in it. It’s probably too big for bringing to most places which is why I’ve never used it until now. I have a shower unit which doubled as rod storage and I’ve a fairly large garage space so the gear fit fine.
@@FishingwithSteveIreland many thanks for that quick reply… never thought of putting gear in the shower… my garage wouldn’t be huge but I could get some things in there … I only fish in Winter so have an oul car specifically for that.. have to insure it all year but only tax it for 6 months.. my motorhome is four birth but also still too big to take to most venues but I will now look at the option of at least getting somewhere with it… Thanks again for your prompt reply…
Very good Steve 👏
Thanks glad you enjoyed it
Ah heyor , all the gear including a bait boat and now he shows us the camper van ! Great fishing set up and very enjoyable video .
Cheers Gerry, if I had my way it would be a boat not a Motorhome. 😜
u should come fish my lake
